Thornes Park Show V.11 -- Pics inside.

Ive just been handed some info regarding this years Thornes Park show.

For the last for 4years this has been a cracking show, its a pretty decent size and theres always a random selection of stuff on show.

Here's the pics from last year

So, the lowdown is:

Friday 1st July from around 4:30-5ish until it gets dark and they throw us off the field :D

Basically, to get into the place, you need to head towards Thornes College from the Horbury Road side of the park.

IIRC, its about 3quid to show a car and free to wander in for a look around.

I'll meet anyone that fancies it at the retail park so we can get parked together if any folks fancy it...

That's the wrong way round shirley?

I took the GT6 to this last year (don't see it happening this year as I don't think I will have any road legal cars for a few weeks) but it has a good variety of cars like. Was quite enjoyable.

One unfortunate drawback is that I'll be there.

I'll be there - not sure what i'm going in yet, do I dare take the Fiesta POP ?? Capri is still off the road and the White Lancer is laid up at the moment..

I took a Primera last year and parked it on the showfield and everything. Ha ha!

I think I'll be taking the Prelude, Im pretty sure that escRot won't be back, or at least, it won't be MOT'd.

What do you think you'll take this year Hirst? Please bring the Laurel taxi, or the Stanza, or the Integra...

Probably a Laguna II, just to disappoint everyone. I don't have a Laguna II, but I'll see if I can lend one.

This is next weekend chaps, anyone fancy it?

Anyone want to meet up before hand? Mr D Hirst, Zetecvan, Anglevan, HillmanImp, WAT? Any more for any more?

Posted

I don't know what time I'll be turning up, so I'll likely just turn up.

I wasn't sure what to expect, I have to say, because advertising was lacking this year, however, this show really has found its feet and the turnout was very impressive.

Huge variety, great weather and even some AS regulars in Mr Hirst and WAT-on-earthy.

Im not going to subject y'all to the full 100-odd pics, but instead, heres a little overview.

The whole album is here, if anyone fancies a peruse. I know they all look a little dark around the edges, perhaps I had the camera on the wrong setting  , Im sure WAT will be along shortly with some smarter images though...

Very nice snaps Mr. 4-door. Can I ask what the Aquaplane head was attached to?

Would love to have gone to this one but I'm currently on crutches and crappy medication which makes travel a bit much.

Having said that I'm hoping to get to the Japs show at Thoresby next weekend, maybe........................ :|

An absolutely stunning Zephyr Convertible. It had three SU's slung off the side aswell 8)

I had a little natter to the owner, he said the head cost him the heavy end of £500, but it improved economy and tractability no-end. It could also be wound up to well over a ton on a straight and long stretch of road. It was only the third time it'd be out since last year and he'd spent the winter months installing an underdash "45 player. Very cool.

Looks llike there were some lovely badges at the show.

I was having this discussion with WAT yesturday evening.

The nature of the show (IE: the close proximity of the cars and people milling around everywhere) made it nearly impossible to take clean and clear shots of anything and the pics I did get came out quite dark due to the incorrect settings I was using.

There is some if you have a look in the album though

I do hope your well soon. My mate in his R33 GTS and myself in the Prelude were flying the flag for interesting modern-ish Jap stuff

Cheers, I ruptured my achilles tendon getting out of my Jago 4 weeks ago, ended up with a blood clot in my leg, have a pot on it for at least another 4 weeks and on Warfarin until December, can't drive and got a choice of 4 cars sat at home and a show to go to every weekend..............

One of many Mk1 Escorts. Can anyone place the engine though?....

Wrong shape of cam cover for a twin-cam - could it be a Merkur engine?

Posted

its a japanese turbo engine innit, Nissan Silvia perhaps?

Edit..... Mitsubishi Starion!

Near enough.

Its out of a Colt Turbo and he's used the job lot engine, box, loom and even had the rear axle shortened to suit.

Its nice to see one done properly and using an original lump for a transplant.

Colt turbos are FWD.... if its not from a Starion it must have come from either HIrst Cabs' express Galant Turbo or a Sapporo. Looks a supa neat installation wherever its from.

Now you see, the guy had us guessing and I guessed Starion, but he insisted it was from a Colt so I assumed an early Colt was RWD.

Meh, like you say its a different, tidy install and it must go well enough. Better than any pinto I imagine.

If the donor was old enough, even if it was from a Lancer 2000 turbo or a Tredia Turbo it would still have been badged Colt.... eg Colt Saporro.

(/captain obvious)

I concur - I recall some Colt turbo touring cars appearing in race reports in MN and Autosport in around 1983.
