Looking for a v6 v8 or straight 6 for summer fun

Hi All,

I have a Pug 205 Turbo Diesel for day to day duties which has just had its cambelt, brakes & suspension all sorted so I'm looking for something to have a bit of fun with over the summer. I'm no mechanic, so need to be get in, turn key & go. Anyone got anything? Any Suggestions?

Have a few wants/requirements:

Must be a 5 Pot, v6, v8 or Straight 6

Must have MOT

Must be 1994 or Older (For Insurance Purposes)

Ideally be in the northern half of England

Nothing too complex, basic is best!

Have a good noise.... Windows open motoring with a soundtrack from the pipes

Open to any suggestions... Budget is flexible, upto a £3k for something special.

Probably be sold around Sept, as I get bored too quick!

I look forward to your thoughts

Cheers

Well, since you're only looking to keep it till sept, you should base your choice around how easy it would be to sell on. In which case, don't buy a Tagora!

You could do a lot worse than a 2.8 Granada mk2.

Jag XJR? Mine was first registered in '94, but it's a bloody early one.

That way you get straight six and a supercharger ;)

Would like a Granny but they're a bit thin on the ground now with all the banger lads buying them up, plus always a risk leaving it on the drive...

This thread's got a kind of 'AS personal ads' feel which is quite appealing.

LADIES! 'Domesticated' man looking for no-frills summer outdoor fun! Must be 30+, with a big motor, get in touch for fun and frolics! discretion assured. NW Area. (I will pay decent money for the right candidate)

LOL, I suspect that 'summer fun' is going to involve smashing all the windows out, welding in a cage and smashing the thing to bits on the oval, but hey, what can ya do?

Lexus LS 400, dirt cheap in early form, all the toys will work when you buy it (and still work when you sell)

V8 power but no muscle car soundtrack but will be everything a car should be, just don't expect your pulse to race each time you fire it up, if thats a requirement a TVR anything from the early 90's would do, but be prepared for lots of spanner twIrling and

"OH GOD ALMIGHTY WHY ME" moments;

(I've done both and the Lexus wins easily)

In one of those hopeless 'ignoring buyer's requirements' type replies my 1999 E46 2.5 is up for grabs.

So it's a bit newer than what you asked for but well within your budget to offset any insurance costs. He said hopefully.

Lol, Didn't think of it like that! But tis true!

Nope! Not got the balls to go racing, be looking at spending £250 if that was the case not upto £3k... Will see what insurance says about yours on Mon, They are bloody picky.

I'd prefer something with a bit of noise, but I can imagine a cheap TVR being a bag of trouble, will have a look out for a lexus see how 'quiet' they are.

Calibra V6 or the plenty of 90's coupes that came with a 2.5?

Do calibra's still exist? Thought they'd all disolved by now! Will have a look out for one. Couldn't allow myself to buy a Probe after having capri's all my life.

Mmm possibly, although kinda scared after Clarkson's one on top gear!

Too new I'm afraid, needs to go on my classic insurance which should cost £175-250 for a limited milage jobby, where as a normal policy for something like yours would be £1k+

Working through your idea's as I type!

If insurance is a big issue, I suspect the XJR ain't for you.

Tradex even tried to raise my trade policy premium because of it, which cost them any future business from me....

I don't think Top Gear can really be believed regarding their challenges! They're a fantastic car - for windows down noise they're something else! 8)

For 3 grand it's got to be that 928 as you'll get classic insurance and it's got a thumping great v8 in it. I will own a 928 at some point in my life.

You have a very valid point. They're great cars. Don't fancy a Scimitar do you? :P

haha, I'm good cheers DW! :D Trying to thin the fleet a bit so I have some money to spend on other tat!

On that point, I also have an 87 Chevrolet Camaro Z28 Iroc Z that could be had for 3K - 5 litre V8 in that! T Tops for even better noise / windows fun

If this front engine mounting plate doesn't start being a bit more co-operative, I'm about half an hour from selling my lovely V6 Rover for about £6.

If I owned that camaro I'd park it right outside the bank and go in and shout:

Yo! this is the Rock kicking it with the Refugee camp. And you're 'bout to smell what the Rock is cooking

before asking to open an account/cash a cheque/extend my overdraft or whatever.

You've still got the XR4i? Gah. AND the Camaro - which I came very, very close to having when it first came up on RR. Made the mistake of trying to justify it to the wife BEFORE buying it...
