That's lovely. Not what I need at all, but I was still tempted.

indeed,

this is one of the earliest, if not the earliest example of the van still in regular daily use. There are two other 1975 Mk 1 Autosleepers I know of - another 'Leyland Van from Austin Morris' with a B series diesel and a 1976 Sherpa Van running on an O series (reploacement) engine. I haven't seen a Mk1 commercal one on the road for many years, I did see one in a museum in France a few years ago - I might break in to steal the back doors!.

There is a reason why the Autosleepers survived - they were rustproofed and they were very expensive - you'd be looking at a modern price of £30k for one of these in 1975...therefore their owners cherished them, unlike the commercial vehicles which were on the whole not rustproofed and had hard lives especially as they were seen as cheap and belonging to the boss! Mind you , if I had to drive it for a living, I'd trash the bugger as well!

Hey scoot, you won't any cars left - I don't want to see '2009 VW Polo 1.2 TFSI' appear under your posts!

The Yugo isn't a big car.

fuggin tragic - at it's height the Scooters fleet was:

Volvo 940 Sport Estate

Mondeo Ghia X V6 Estate

Daimler DD6 (XJ40)

Daimler Sov (S3)

Daf 44

Citroen CX

Daihatsu Shitetrak

Mk 1 Shogun

that was about 2 years ago...

within 2 weeks the fleet will be:

2002 1.6 Renner Scenic (decided against the Saab 93)

1988 Yugo 45a

running cosrts have to be kept low and practical all sare dosh is needed for the business

but the moment I can afford it I'm gonna get a nice big Series 3 Jag!

running costs have to be kept low

but you holiday costs will go through the roof when the Sherpa's gone...

Posted

not really - didnt have the holiday van buy in from the missus anyway.....

Context error: does not compute.

trust me - if you do your own mechanics they are cheap compared to Volvos anyway - parts are considerably cheaper and more avaliable

cos there's loads of mark 1 facelifts around there are also loads in scrap yards therefore they are rapidly becoming tat

besides - its only for a few months

the stupidly cheap running costs of the Yugo more than weigh the scales anyway!

not an idea choice for me BUT I'm happy for the missus to scoot around in it if she likes it and its not exactly costing me much cash

What a shame, that was probably one of, if not, the best written adverts I've seen. You have a knack of making a road trip story utterly fascinating and the accompanying pictures make it all the better.

......

Fairy nuff, Scoot! Hope yours is better than the POS my sister had...

We have had a pre-facelift Scenic for three months now. It is the only type of car that my father can get into and his wheelchair fits nicely into the boot.

It only cost £600 and so far it has had no problems apart from a loose exhaust mounting and the usual rust around the rear arches. It is not my sort of car and I don't particularly enjoy driving it but it does the job, is comfortable and I can see why it appeals to families.

My parents had exactly the same model before but in the standard car version (both 1.6RT) and you can really tell that the Scenic is heavier as it is a lot more sluggish.
