The "Just Reminiscing " thread

Shamelessly stolen from Cavettes thread, this is for all you shiters out there to reminisce over cars you have owned. Some may have been diamonds, some may have been utter crap. So sit back in your comfy chair, draw on your pipe, give the faithful labrador a pat for bringing your slippers over and tell all.

A car i wasnt looking to buy, i just sort of bid on it at a local car auction. It was identical to the above picture, was in good condition and I paid, what i thought, was a very reasonable £475 for it.

The drive home showed that, although the gear knob stated 5 speeds, i could only get four of them as 5th kept spitting the gear lever out...

Her "muscular" 1.7 litres endowed her with sprightly performance, hey, she was a damn good motorway mile muncher, for sure. The interior was a mix of dull plastic and French brothel, not unpleasant, actually. The front seats didnt tilt and move like ordinary seats, they almost swung as a whole to and fro depending on the setting you wanted, which, in anycase didnt matter because, however you sat, your knees were up to your chin and your arms were outstretched. If ever there was a car that you thought " Id love to drive that" she was it. Unfortunately, she was also a car that had you saying " I wish i hadnt bothered.."

I didnt keep her too long, I had to dismantle the engine for some reason but a couple of hours into doing it, with so much more to unbolt, unclip, take off before she could come out, i gave up. After sitting in my garage for a few months, i sold her on and bought a Rover 416 GSI. Now that was a blinding car.....

I've had a few Suds - I look longingly at the ebay ads. Particularly the Sprints. Despite the horrendous rust/unreliability issues, I look back with great fondness because they were just so good to drive.

My sister and then brother in law had a D reg 11 1.4 GTL in the mid 1990s and as a front seat passenger it felt almost as if the seat was suspended in mid air rather than attached to part of the bodywork. Weird.
