Hmm I might come to this, as long as I can get the tax on the Aggro sorted on time (still haven't got the V5).

Excellent!

Mrs SL is requesting the route is reversed - she doesn't want to spend all day with the prospect of going to Jaywick looming over us, she'd rather get that bit over and done with ASAP...

Lol, I would have thought the prospect of hanging around with a gang of shiters all day would be a far scarier prospect than visiting Jaywick...

What is that going to do for the timeframe, if Garycox and I were to go up there, would be have to leave at 5am or something?

I think a civilised start at say 10.30-11am in Jaywick - does that sound reasonable? I envisage having to depart around 4pm. The route, such as it is, would only be 14-15 miles from Jaywick up to Walton depending on detours etc. I think even the most hopeless of our crocks could manage that distance in 5hrs....

You clearly haven't seen my Allegro!

According to Google maps, Brighton to Jaywick is 128 miles, 2h 32 mins.

Walton's about the same distance though so it doesn't really matter which way round we go.

So, is 8 too early Barrett?

Posted

Nah, I could potentially be up for going even earlier if need be. I'll be so excited I won't be able to sleep the night before anyway; I'M IN!

Posted

Wow, I make this 8-9 vehicles so far if everyone who has expressed interest can make it.

What is the plan? we need somewhere to aim, we can't just randomly drive around clacton and walk Jaywick can we?

Dunno, sounds alright to me! I guess cruise around looking for some suitably bleak locations for a decent photo session of everyone's shite, a bit of tat-hunting round the backstreets and a pissy cup of tea in a shit cafe to finish up?

It's only right that we should congregate as close to Brooklands as possible:- I say the bit where the "market" used to be held, that now accomodates mainly broken pushchairs and syringes.

At risk of being "labelled" as silly;

Can I suggest name tags?

Posted

OMG UR SO SILLY

Just look out for the cars and try to match them up somehow, like a sort of Shite I-Spy thing.

I'll be in the Aggro if it makes it...

This won't work for Barrett though because he has forgotten to lean how to drive, you should be able to recognise him from the following picture:

 Too, I don't think we'll need name badges, we all know what each other drive so we should be ok!

Bloody hell. I best do some revision. Trig, you've got a Bentley Speed Six, haven't you? And SpottedLaurel; I seem to remember a Porsche 959.

I'll be alright.

Just been doing a bit of virtual cruising around some of the areas will be passing through. No guarantees we’ll see anything similar, and there are places where it wouldn’t be practical (or prudent) for us all to drive through, but so far I’ve found a mint-looking Metro VDP, CF ambulance and a Triumph 2000 estate.

I’m desperately hoping that the Datsun signage on the garage at Jaywick is still present (it is on Streetview) and I’ve remembered several other old garages which I’d like to get photos of.

I am hoping to convince a female friend to host me in Munich during that weekend (Germans are always in a bit of a hurry, so the Oktoberfest starts mid-Sept and finishes on 03.10!). If it all goes as predicted, i.e. I end up with a generous amount of FAIL, I'll come along. Will probably know about a week before the event.

Unfortunately it looks like I might not be able to make this after all now. I was counting on getting that day off as holiday, but having checked the rotor some bellend has booked that shift off already so I will have a hard time getting the afternoon off. I will try though, it would be a nice run out for the 1100.

Typically this falls in the middle of my 2-week holiday in the sunshine so i'm out. BOLLOX.

Sunday October 2nd,definitely starting Jaywick somewhere about 10.30-11am, ending wherever we've got to by the time everyone gets bored/breaks down/is chased out by irate locals annoyed with a group of internet people pointing and smirking. Somewhere towards Walton I'd say.

Shame about those of you struggling to make it, whatever weekend we choose would be bad for somebody.

Apologies for my lack of input here, without wanting to bore you with miserable stuff life has been a tad stressful of late. However, if anyone's still interested in the future I'm still up for a meet in a barn in a field full of Skodas and Land Rovers whenever works out best.
