New Insurance law

I've just been pointed out to this link on the Mail website, No doubt everyone on here already knows this apart from me but it seems in June there's a new law coming out that says all cars must be insured even if they aren't on the road, So people like Nigel Bickle could face having every car getting a £100 fine and if they are still not insured they will get lifted and destroyed.

My Bora isn't insured at the moment as it's off the road and waiting to be sold, I can't insure it as i transferred my policy to my new car and i can only have 1 month temporary additional policy which I've used up. where do i stand with that as my insurance company won't insurance it anymore with out taking a new policy out?.

The important bit is to declare SORN. In theory, this shouldn't be a big problem. In reality, I'm sure it'll cause innocent people more bother than it deters law-avoiders.

If its in the Mail then i would ignore it totally.

Your vehicle does not need to be insured if it is:

* Declared SORN

* Hidden in an unknown place

First it's high fuel we are being targeted with and now this. Just another easy target the motorists are. In this country the majority of people who drive around with no car insurance are the immigrants, but will they be clamped, no chance because they have the Human Rights on their side.

THE IMMYGANTS! Even when it was bears, I knew it was them. Stop whining, if you can't beat 'em, join 'em. Quit your job, move into a £5m Council mansion overlooking the Thames, claim ££££ benefits and drive uninsured, the HUMAN RIGHTS will protect you and even if you get punished prison's like Butlins nowadays with playstations and massages and Sky+HD.

There's another new "no insurance" law out and about too. If you drive uninsured and are involved in a fatal accident, even if its totally not your fault you will get convicted of "causing death through driving uninsured" I.E your car shouldn't have been on the road and if it was at home in your garage where it should have been it wouldn't have been involved in an accident in the first place.

There was a guy convicted of it locally recently. A young mopedist was apparently racing a motorcyclist, lost control, crossed onto the wrong side of the road and was killed by a car going in the opposite direction. It was deemed to have been totally the mopedist"s fault however the car driver had allowed his insurance to lapse and went to prison for causing his death.

Just found a link to the story,

Driving without insurance is pretty bad, but how does it make someone responsible for someone else's death if they run into you?

Never heard of that before, pretty unbelievable innit! I hope the lad doesn't feel like he caused the motorbikers death.

I would say car insurance is one of the most fooked-up aspects of modern day-to-day life, you're obliged by law to have it, yet its hideously expensive thanks to a huge industry of shady and totally unregulated characters creaming money out the system at every stage. If you dont have it though, you're automatically a criminal, and now it seems you can even be a KILLAH, simply because you dont earn enough to pay your grossly overblown insurance premium.

That death driving insurance law is one of the most astounding injustices I have ever heard of, what a complete crock! How the hell did they sneak that through?

I wonder if that would still apply if you parked an uninsured car on the road and somebody died in a collision with it.

If the local shopkeeper didn't bother to lock up at night and priced his goods to cover the cost of theft he'd soon be told to get his act together, but that's pretty much what the insurance industry have done.

There will be egg-fried faces in the gummint if anyone takes that to the European court of human rice. Sadly, most people who will find themselves in that hideously unfair situation are unlikely to be well-informed or wealthy enough to take advantage of the full appeals process.
