Moar ridiculously cheap modern tat

I bought this earlier this week.

It's a 2-litre single cam VTEC SE, and it's a thoroughly pleasant car to drive, with an aumsing kick at about 4,000 rpm when the VTEC kicks in (I've never owned a VTEC Honda before). It's not as fast as my last Accord (to be expected really as it has less power and more weight) but it's quick enough, and seems to handle well. It's also got all the usual gadgets (remote locking, electric windows and sunroof, aircon, alloys, CD player etc), and the towbar should come in handy. It's done 193K, got a few scuffs and it has a slight blow on the exhaust and needs a suspension bush somewhere on the nearside front, and it also only has a couple of weeks' test left, but it was £102, for a thoroughly usable and relatively modern family hatch. Prices for cars around this age (1998-2001) really do seem to be at a low ebb at the moment - I missed out on a Vectra last week which went for £113 with four months' test - much as I dislike Vectras, at that sort of money it really doesn't matter. I don't know why they're so cheap, but I'm enjoying it while it lasts...

What a bargain! Worth more weighed in but it looks like it's too good for that. As long as whatever part of the exhaust has gone isn't too expensive you'll be laughing. Japanese stuff like this tend to be bigger bargains that most as a rule, Lord knows why becuase they're mostly well screwed together cars that last forever with little maintenance.

I would do one of these accords, as i think they are quite pleasant looking (saloon esp), nicely speccd, reliable etc, though them being not that gr8 on pez does put me off somewhat.

I like Accords as a rule but I never was too keen on that shape one. I like the Rover 600 based one and all the ones before it. Also most models in this shape seem to only come with a cassette player rather than a CD player. :( Bit of a pain with the unique fit stereo system.

If I was going to buy some shite again, a Civic or an Accord would be at the top of my list. :D

It's the mileage that puts folk off in't it? I reckon when it gets close to 200K, 99% of buyers will shy away.

Drive it to West Yorkshire and stick a £300 sign on the window, it'd be gone within the day. Nice buy!

Great price! Certainly a bit cheaper than the one we bought a month or so ago to replace the Primera:

We ended up with a full-on Type-V 2.3, which is VTEC and with a little more power than the 2.0 but more importantly lots more torque. Redline only 6000! I don't like it quite as much as the Camry but it's not my daily. I like the gearshift's 'mechanical' feel and the whole car seems very well put-together. Certainly a step or two up the Primera P11.

Christ. And there was I thinking mine was worth about five hundred quid...!

Hell of a score there. If you're going to bung it in for another ticket I'd cast an eye over the brake pipes where they come out of their plastic cradle just ahead of the nearside rear wheel, they do rust there - otherwise I wouldn't be surprised if it passes. The mileage shouldn't be an issue, and they're not that bad on juice, just not great (mine's averaged 33mpg over the last 10,000 miles). Probably a factor of max torque arriving at 4,800rpm. They do sing well at the top end though, and the steering feel/feedback is superb.

It's only the ES/SE Executive/Type-V that has a BOSE stereo requiring much hassle to change, the lower-spec jobs have a more conventional unit. Yes, it's only a tape deck, but that's ideal for my Autoshite ICE solution (iPod Shuffle connected to pound-shop MP3-to-cassette adapter)!

Let me know when you want rid, old boy...!
