It's in Lewiston in Northern Idaho - do you want me to swing by and ask for details?

It's only about 3 miles from where I'm staying.

You sure it wasn't in Bumfuck, Idaho?

Great shots 8)

I seriously need to go to America for a shite spotting holiday. Is it possible to do a Fly Drive holiday with a 1970 Dodge Charger?

Certainly right next door to the Bumfuck Idaho van

Amazing spots!

The Bumfuck Econoline is really great, as is the 850 Spider. I quite literally flipped my lid the first time I saw a Fairlady Roadster over here... seen a couple since but no pics as of yet.

Keep up the good work!

How much is a chunk of old, early 70's, full size Yank sedan type shite over there at the moment... and how hard is it to get into the US nowadays?

I sense a stupid roadtrip plan, and a Buick.

Best bet would be to check out the local Craigslist.org postings.

Shite up this way doesn't appear to be unreasonably priced - probably because it's so remote?

I would be very surprised if there wasn't somebody offering that service.

Nice idea, but sadly, most of the 'classic car hire' stuff I've found is, erm, a bit European. And they seem to be quite twitchy about letting their cars go out of their home state. Actually, there's one in Las Vegas on this map, who want to discourage you from driving from LV to LA, 'cos it's about 270 miles, which is the same distance as London to Paris'. C'mon, this AS talking! Your point is...?

I think I'm in love with that l'il Datsun Fairlady tho'.

That schoolbustruck is incredible - what a camper that would make. If only I liked camping.

If you like the Fairlady how about this one in the UK?

Very lovely! I'd imagine it must be a rarity here, not so in the USA?

As far as I'm aware the Fairlady wasn't officially imported into the UK so any that are kicking around are probably imports.

The red one was a car used by BMC to analyse the Japanese upstart

They are not that common over in the USA but you do see them from time to time - a bit like seeing an MG on the roads back home in the UK nowadays I suppose!

That's what I was thinking. But I wasn't sure if maybe one or two would've come from the Continent.

Fat lot of good it did them. Ditto with the bikes.

Living in God's Waiting Room, I see plenty of MG's; I'd rather see one of these!

Some further reading with regards the UK/Euro connection with Datsun here:

Sadly, the Fairlady Roadster was never officially sold in Britain. Nissan was a late arrival to England in 1968, some 8 years after entering certain other European markets. The first range from Datsun UK included the Sunny 1000 saloon (B10), the Bluebird 1300/1600 4 door saloons (510), and the 2000 saloon and estate (Cedric). According to Mark Dixon, writing a Fairlady1600/MGB comparison in Popular Classics magazine (November 1994), 'We should be grateful that Datsun didn't sell the Fairlady in Britain during the 1960s, or we'd have a Datsun on the front of every other classic car magazine today'. Praise indeed, and perhaps Datsun UK got it wrong all those years ago.

http://www.datsun.org/fairlady/Europe.html

Oh and mention of the red Roadster/Fairlady too:

The first unofficial Fairlady imported to the UK was the 1500 brought over from America for testing by Standard Triumph in 1964. This car was recently being sought by the son of the second British owner, who Triumph sold the car to in the mid 1960s. When last seen the Fairlady still sported odd front tyres following an incident at the famous Mira testing grounds during testing by Triumph. An enthusiastic apprentice over-inflated both front tyres and caused both tyres to blow out at the same time on a rolling road.

Yeah, because that would be a terrible thing right. Just goes to show how recently people were horrified at the thought that Japanese cars could be considered cla***cs
