JYAN pron:/zhiaan/ (2CV + IRAN = Guaranteed SHITE!)

Per lovejoy's request I have started this thread. It is going to be about ZHIYAAN (literary means "Angry" in Farsi, believe it or not!)

ZHIYAAN was Citroen Dyane that was CKD-ed in Iran from 1967-80 or so. It was put together by SAIPA and was the cheapest car you could buy back then in Iran, imagine that! This was for those who couldn't even afford a PAYKAN! So here you go; an Iranian built 2CV, can't get any Shitier than that can it?!... :?

I always thought it was Jyane which I believe translates as lion? I'm far from an expert in Iranian matters though! Believe they built their own pick-up too?

In some context it could also mean Angry Lion, you are correct. And yes they did made a pick up too, matter of fact here is the full range, Enjoy! :D

Yes very interesting indeed! It was Imp powered?! Man I can't get away from Rootes anywhere, can I?!:lol: I loved those pick-up/convertible ones, they needed to be included in of those Pink Panther cartoons! My friend had one in Iran, and we used to take it for joy-rides in our Apt complex underground's parking. It was so much fun, cause we were like 13-14 and had no drivers license.

Have the Chinese got anything to do with that? Zhi Yuan means "angry lion with throbbing tool which could beat a donkey out of a bog".

Or something like that anyway.

Hahahaha!.... No Chinese connections were involved, I can assure you that! The Persians managed to the beating themselves!

PaykanHunter in shock non-Paykan content. :D

The Iranian car industry is pretty interesting, do you have any information about the Khodro 405s? The RD which is a 405 body plonked on Paykan underpinnings is especially interesting.

The doors on any of these are better than the ones on my Dyane, so if a set could be carefully wrapped and posted to my usual address that would be just spiffing.

KTHXBAI.

Good! The Iran Khodro Pars is basically just a really badly-made 405. And the increasingly populous Samand is a clumsily-rebodied 405.

But the RD (later called the Roa) is far more interesting: a 405 shell with Peykan running gear - so rear leaf springs, front MacPherson struts, a live rear axle and a four-speed gearbox from the Hillman Hunter. All dragged along by a fuel-injected 1600cc Hillman Avenger engine. They're quite popular due to the proliferation of Peykan spares.

Here are a couple of pics taken by my own fair hand:

I think the angular Citroen buggy thing was - confusingly - sold as the Mehari in Iran. This Citroen 'Bush Baby' range was made in various countries... see also the Namco Pony.

For real Iranian filth, I refer you to the Kish Khodro Sinad:

...and the Veek:

Excellent :D Thanks for posting these, it's incredibly difficult to find decent pictures of them. That one isn't fuel injected though, there's definitely some Stromberg action going on.

"Hot" as in a plastic Scenic parked too close to the fire?

NICE ONE!!!! I would love to go to Iran for a holiday, i reckon i'll wait till the middle east calms down a bit though (could be a long wait). I would be travelling there mainly with the intention of having a proper close look at one of these rear-wheel-drive 405 things as they sound seriously shite, defo worth travelling to see.

Next project Bol? If the Avenger turns out to be hiding a load of rot, just transplant the mechanicals into a Pug 405. Sorted! A holiday at home.

This Iranian Shite is definitely top quality stuff 8)8)8)

You know you want one. A winning blend of 80s styling and 70s dynamics... available now.

Go to http://www.ikco.com/Products/Fa/Models.aspx?SeriesName= and paste پژو+روا onto the end of the address line.

Ok Guys! I had to filthy my Blog and make a post about this, since there have been so many questions about this truly Shite creature! :o

As it was mentioend before on this Thread:

You are looking at a Rear-wheel Drive (RD) Peugeot 405! And as you can see, the power train is coming from no other than Paykan! The engine is the Rootes 1.6 Hillman Avenger (which were used on Paykans since late 70s) and was mated to the Hunter gearbox and rear axle.

They started selling them in late 90s with the original carburetor set up, and then with the fuel injection upgrade (which were used on late model Paykans also). OMG! I just looked up http://www.ikco.com/ and guess what?! The RD is still available!!! Now they are calling it Peugeot Roa (have no idea what that means). Now you might ask, was it mainly a Peugeot body, or was it the Paykan underbody underneath? Well, on my last trip to Iran few years ago, I spotted one on jacks and took the some snaps, take a look above maybe you can figure out what is going on with this mess! The car was a handling disaster, and would suffer constant engine-mount and cross member failure (as it is evident in the photos). Hope this clears some of the confusion regarding this monstrosity of a car!

So if there are no more questions about the Peugeot RD, shall we get back to the Jyan (ZHIAAN) topic?...

ULTIMATE WOW!!!!!! Now that is some serious shite right there! Nice work PH! I would love to get one of these up on jacks and have a proper look at the bodyshell.

Love the comical panel fit on the back shot of the red one - check the bootlid lineup and the way the rear bumper seems to have a few connectors missing on the right side.

Come on now!... Give them a break, up to this car they were putting Paykans together, so plastic fitting was a bit new over at Iran Khodro!
