Insurance renewal advice, please!

Right, I know this subject crops up with alarming regularity, but it's insurance renewal time, and I'm in a bit of a pickle.

Currently on a multi-car policy with Footman James, which although pretty good, has been becoming a bit of a pain in the arse due to over 20 year rule and no modifieds restricting a couple of pretty tasty potential purchases. I've also got Mrs S covered on it, effectively pooling both out insurances onto one policy.

BUT... Renewal this year is just short of a grand. Also don't really want to continue like we are because Mrs S will lose her no-claims this year. I've already let mine go, which has also proved to be a pain.

So, I thought of doing a motor trade policy with her as policyholder to preserve no claims. Problems are, no business use for her, and cheapest quote £1500.

Gocompare.com/pisspoortvadverts are quoting £560 for the Alfa (Mrs S' daily), which only leaves £340 breathing space for me.

So the question is, do any of you shiters have any good ideas/contacts/advice. We need SD&P, business use for Mrs S as a local authority Outreach Worker, commuting for me as a Nursing Assistant, decent cover for old chod and preferably a more relaxed attitude towards age and modifications (think zetec Mk1 Fiesta!)

All suggestions listened to*

Unless it involves trading the Alfa for a Horsey Horeseless

I use a company called Insurance for you, they are a broker who insure through Equity Red Star, My wife works for Willis who is also a big insurance company who they are part of so we get a special rate with free breakdown cover and have so far been really good, They are also the same company as RH Classic Insurance who you often see in the magazines.

Your welcome to give them a try, As they specialise in Willis employees they might ask how for found out about them, just say someone you know who's wife works for Willis recommend them to you, I'd be interested to see what kind of rate they offer you.

There numbers 01277 206906, they are open from 9-5.30pm.

...My wife works for Willis ...

Does she get to work in the magnificent 1975 Norman Foster Willis-Faber building? As seen in Top Gear?

Also and closer to topic, how likely am I to be able to insure a '97 Rover 825Si on a limited mileage classic-type policy?

Try Diamond insurance (NOT the one that specialises in insuring ladies - though I wonder how they'll cope with the gender thing?). Seen them recommended on the Cappuccino forum - no Cappo is 20 yet.

Not with FJ, Rover has to be over 20yrs for them to insure it, I had a 1994 827 on my policy briefly last year.

An MG on the other hand they class as a classic when its over 5yrs old .... no joke... I'm still considering an MG ZS/T diesel as a daily.

Lovely building, Are you old skool enough to remember the night club on the roundabout? great idea apart from all the RTAs when leaving after a skin full, Lol!!

back on topic... Ive spent ages looking for quotes for a Volvo V70, Volvo 740 and a campervan, Tried all kinds, Best ive came up with is Sure term direct for the 740 at £300,- adrian flux for the sherpa at £300. and Swift for the V70 £430.

Took ages to get them quotes, only the V70 is used for business and the rest on limmited millage.

Might be worth a try!

hope that is of some help.

They're part of the admiral group, so I'll bet the name will just vanish. Shame really, they answer the phone quicker on the diamond numbers than the admiral ones!
