Ah yes, Alarm für Cobra 11 - Die Autobahnpolizei. Used to watch this frequently on some obscure German channel back in the day, I quite like it. I remember one of the early series had a VW Phaeton to be "destroyed" but they used a Vauxhall Senator instead for the crash scenes. Its been said that production costs are almost at proper Cinema Film level.

Substituting a low-value car for the stunt work is a long-established tradition. I'm quite sure they think we won't notice... Watch "Spinout" which is one of Elvis's 1960s movies. Shelly Fabares drives a Ferrari, but when The King accidentally runs her off the road and into a river, it mysteriously turns into a TR4. I'm always amazed watching "Goldfinger," to see the Lincoln Continental go through the crusher. Wot no cheapo 61 Impala???????

I wish I could remember now which UK cop show destroyed a character's lovely new Granada in one episode; the burning wreck is actually a Mk2 Consul. Not a lot of difference...

And of course "Vanishing Point," with the Challenger/Camaro situation!

Didn't Goldfinger have a Merc limo being crushed in it? Or was that another one?

Posted

That must be something else, Tim. "For Your Eyes Only," perhaps, where JB disposes of a hitman by kicking his Merc off a mountain? AFAIK the only crusher use in a Bond is the one described, and that was most definitely a Lincoln. Unfortunately.

Wasn't the DB5 destroyed in The Italian Job actually a Lancia?

Posted

Good grief, was it? I always thought it really was an Aston, I'm going to have to get my DVD out now, have you any idea what bloody time it is here and what that's going to do to my early start in the morning??????????

Posted

Exactly. Don't look like no Lancia to me....

Posted

Wiki says it was a Lancia Flaminia. Sad that one of those was lost but better that than the Aston.

Also, if you see a main character drive any 70's muscle car in a film you can all but guarantee it will be destroyed before the credits roll

Lancia what? Flaminia? Bloody hell, that's almost as big a crime!

And yeah, they do seem to be rather fond of gratuitously destroying nice cars, don't they? It didn't used to be so common, but now seems to be mandatory. I mean come on, Starsky would never have launched his beloved tomato into the bay when he was PMG, but in his Ben Stiller incarnation... Bruce Willis only had a 72 Riviera for the first reel or so of The Last Boy Scout. Daniel Craig has only been 007 for ten minutes but has seen off two new Astons.

For a comedy chase, seek out "The Split." Jim Brown in a Corvette (fibreglass, remember) chases Jack Klugman in a Cadillac Fleetwood (three tons of Detroit steel) and rams him!

I'm pretty sure there's an episode of Knight Rider, or possibly A-Team, where some sexy coupe goes over a cliff and turns into a fifties saloon. Cannot for the life of me remember any useful details. Sorry.

Looks like I was wrong on the golfinger thing then! Its been years since I've seen it.

Wasn't the Ferrari in Ferris Beaullers day off swapped for an MGB when it reverses though a glass window and drops into a ravine?

Posted

No cars were substituted in this rare outtake from a genuine Dukes of Hazzard shoot.

Nope, the Aston went over as the screenshots show. But it didn't blow up on cue so they dressed a Lancia up and sent that over as well.

Dunno, I've never seen the film sober. But the car was an MGB-based kitcar made by Modena Design & Development in the US, not a real Ferrari for any of the film.

Apparently the E Type that was crushed by the digger was rebuilt though

Definitely two different cars here.

Second car, modified Flaminia, different shape of air-scoop on bonnet, no badge and seems to have sprouted a pair of bumper overriders.

Also grille surround is different and wheelarches are slightly flared.

Alarm für Cobra seem to have crashed, blown up or otherwise destroyed every XJ40 ever registered in Germany. I'm struggling to think of a time they substituted something else at the last moment though...

did a good job rebuilding it

The jag 848 cry is owned by Philip Porter - well known Jag historian and I believe that the FHC Jag also survived.

The Lambo was a wreck - bought from a scrapyard - before it went over the cliff and reputed to be worth more in parts than the aston and jags put together. Which probably explains why the wreck was never found the day after it went to the bottom of the cliff :?

You missed the real biggie - the Lancia is LHD!

This thread has been running for a day now and yet no-one's mentioned the 'Renault A610' blown up in Eldorado!

Nothing wrong there.

Wood, trees etc.

It's actually quite hard to see that in my screenshot. It has a completely different colour of interior too, but you can't really see that either.

i never noticed that Lancia Parts: grille and air-scoop, an ordinary audience like me will never mind :D .Well seeing that screenshots will make no difference if its already wrecked.
