I don't ever really use Autoshite myself, I just sort stuff out for my friends when it goes horribly wrong or it needs it, i.e. programming, database stuff, moving hosts etc. Mr Sceptre and Mr Leyland have TOTAL responsibility for day to day running of the board, deleting posts, banning users etc. I don't get involved. However I do look in on it from time to time and did notice the other day that there is a growing problem with spammers, and emailed them the other night to ask for some security questions that could be asked as part of the sign up process to keep spammers out, instead of using captcha, but have had no reply yet. So I'll throw it open to you lot... We need about half a dozen questions that can be rotated (probably car related, but not obscure) that have clear definite (i.e. not open for debate) answers, best if they are either numbers or one word answers. Any suggestions? I have also received a PM from Tayne with some users that want deleting, which I will try tackle later in the Moderators absence. Blakey

Is there any chance of a regular on the board to also be granted special moderator powers?, Just so if ti happens again someone will be able to sort it quicker maybe?. As for captcha, I'm not a fan, I can never understand what the bloody letters are meant to be but if it works then I'm all for it though a quick question type one might be better like 2+2 = or what manufacturer made the Riva or something like that.

It's not up to me to let people be a moderator or not, as I've said before, Mr Sceptre and Mr Leyland have TOTAL authority in terms of day to day admin, I really have no connection to Autoshite, other than the fact they are my mates and I help them out with web stuff occasionally.

Siestaboy Posted February 28, 2011 Posted February 28, 2011 Right then I've now replaced the visual captcha confirmation which was letting in spammers with a Q&A Captcha system which is apparantly more effective, using some of your questions. Hopefully that will keep the bastards out for a while. As for Nigel Bickles account, his email was on the system as @fdmail.net, but looking at it I'm guessing that it is @fsmail.net, especially as S and D are right next to one another on the keyboard. I've sent his password reset to that updated address, and not had a rejection back, so hopefully it got to him. I have a few more Spammers to delete, but that will have to wait till later Blakey

Christ knows what happened -but both computers rejected my password at the same time -and you cant get to a Mod to shout for help -unless you're in! Couldnt add a new a/c -unless I set up a new email address -so was totally stumped. Anyway -this weekends additions include a Renner 9 (tatty but easily sorted ) and an Alfa 146 -sadly with a knackered variometer & blown headgasket. K seal perhaps?
