Moneymaking idea's ?

Right like alot of people at the moment i've found myself unemployed an im worried that my chance's of finding

another job anytime soon seam slim to none. :( So if i don't get a job soon basically im screwed !

I've had some idea's to hopefully make some money to tide me over i don't expect to be living it up just want to make

enough to get me by.

So my winning idea in my mind is this. Got a cavalier with a towbar. Buy a towing dolly on the credit card.

Then collect a few scrap cars an weight them in. I know there's alot more to it i.e towing weight's / legal side / paperwork / insurance.

Has anybody got any experince / advice etc they could give me on the subject ?

My car cavalier is a 1993 L reg 1.8 LS hatch but don't know about it's towing weight capabilties an im 27 yrs old an my driving licence

states i have category B, B1, fkp, an provisonal, be category .

Can anybody explain to me if im covered to use a dolly with my licence an will the cavalier be able to tow another vehicle legally etc.

Thank's. :)

I wouldn't have thought you would need one if you personally owned the cars you were towing, therefore not operating as a business.

From what Ive seen lately, there is money to be made buying stuff in shops and ebaying it! Mostly baby stuff, like pram blankets £3.50 in Wilkinsons, £7 on ebay!

Towing dolly means that you can only pick up scrap that can roll / has wheels, plus you could find yourself on the wrong side of the law (or at least a uniformed thug who doesn't actually know the letter of the law but will delight in removing your cars and roughing you up).

I think really you ought to have a waste carriers licence and the ability to provide a certificate of destruction to whoever you are collecting from.

Even after all that you are still at a massive disadvantage vs Mr Hiab or Mr BigFatGypsyWedding, as their big truck can scrape up several motors in one hit, no faffing, they don't care what it is, whether it rolls or not, just the weight.

You'd maybe get a few groats breaking stuff or looking out for rarer badly-advertised stuff, but I think you'll still struggle as scrap prices are high and vehicle values so low.

Find out where all the recycling centres are where they have a cheap-free shop..look out for decent vintage stuff..and then eGAY it..records..ceramics..retro light fittings etc..

I know nothing of the murky laws of trailering cars, but I know you won't get gripped if you drive an untaxed, unMOT'd car straight to the scrap yard.

Thank's for the advice tontops an pogweasel suppose breaking certain car's much as i hate seeing car's getting scrapped in the 1st

place would be a better idea but like you say finding the decent stuff at the right price in the first place is slim these days.

Hadn't thought of that fotorabia might be worth a look into that. Cheer's.

no, not true

you need a waste carriers license to transport any waste that doesnt belong to you, or transporting waste on a comercial basis.

Sorry to go off car points..but in the Highlands last year..our local recycling centre was chocka with stuff and it was all free..everything u could imagine..also helps in places with a bit of money..rich fukkas toss out out great stuff...in Islay i got a Crown Devon butter dish..ok..we paid a fiver for it..but it was worth fifty..u cud also think about turning the shite over for a fast buck at car boot sales..altho NZ is different..this is how i survive..we do all the charity shops..auction..and then supply the vintage shops or flog it online..%s are huge..so if yer consistent and got a good eye..you l be sweet..try it out mate..sweet as RAB

A fella taking his old knacker to the weighbridge doesn't need a waste carriers licence, however if you have 2 or 3 car stacked up on the back of a ford cargo you may have trouble convincing the authorities you are not a business.

I guess its up to the OP if he wants to register his waste disposal company and become 100% legit.

I don't need a waste carrier's license for transporting used vegetable oil.

I'd do it, I don't know where all these inspectors are, but sometimes you've got to just do it, it's only a few times eh?

Last time I scrapped a car the metals yard filled in the certificate of destruction in the name of whoever was on the V5.I think you need the full V5 so if you are going down that route fill out the yellow trade slip and give that to the owner.Once it's on the dolly don't forget to cut the cat off and wiegh it in seperately. Some yards won't take tyres others deduct about a fiver per tyre including the spare.

Finding old stuff to punt on ebay might be a good idea but remember sellers fees are 13% of the total. The trick is knowing if certain items will sell so have a search through completed listings. My dad's cousin died recently and while I was searching through his garage someone else did the house.A week later they told me they had chucked out a load of "glamour" mags, in their green recycle bin.I found one PARADE dated Feb 1973, within hours of listing it's had a bid.I wouldn't like to think how much this idiot threw away.Erm so basically I'm saying look for things that most people think is unsaleable then go and do a search of completed listings.

I used to work with a woman whose sideline of buying up old frocks and selling them on as 'trendy vintage clothing' was successful enough for her to take it up full time. I'm not suggesting the same of course  , but a bit of lateral thinking should turn up what is 'old tat' to one person and 'vintage collectable' to another. Buy from the first and sell to the second at a vast profit :) And if you want ideas for suitable merchandise, where better to ask than Autoshite :) Let's get the suggestions rolling in.

I'm sure you could make it work but doing it for profit or a business could be tricky if you don't register. Technically breaking cars at unlicenced premises could see the E.A tearing you a new arsehole too.

That's not to say the odd one won't hurt and fwiw I admire your desire to go out and earn a crust.

Have you considered getting a trade policy and possibly trade plates too and offering to move tat that way? Ok, you're restricted to running safe cars with an MOT if not tax but you might earn a few quid here and there.

Good luck whatever you do, it's easy to jump down peoples throats and not suggest anything helpful or positive and I hope you can find something that truns you a few quid.

Thank's cavette for that an everbody else too for all the comment's so far much appricated. :)

I just can't bear the thought of being skint an waitng by the phone in the hope i get a result from a job application.

Besides one job i've applied for more than 300 people applied for it so the chance's seam slim to none of finding a new job quickly an as fund's are in short supply im sightly worried about what i gunna do if i can't get another job soon. An it's just typical as only just got my cavalier back on the road after being off the road for 8 month's following a spectacular mot failure last year. Now im wondering how long i'll be able to keep it back on it for. I'll keep you all posted if somthing happen's. An thank's everone again.
