Saw this on ebay, looks moody as

http://cgi.ebay.co.uk/Eleanor-Mustang-G ... 33642f2026

so take a sierra, take it oop north, give someone £9600 and you get it back with a flexy fibreglass body kit on.

picture 6 is the scriest bit, both 'A' posts, 'B' posts and roof have been removed and replaced with some very thin looking tube

you can fit a v8 or keep your original pinto; complete with funny noise from rocker cover as your nroken spray bar flails about

BIVA, anyone? Should be interesting.

As should a glance at the V5... :?

Sierras weren't exactly known for their structural integrity in the first place, so this may be an improvement,................or not.

By the time you've added an engine and painted and finished it, you will be into about £14k, for which you could also have either a genuine '66 Mustang with a 289 engine or a 4 year old Mustang GT, if you can live with 6 cylinders. This looks like it could be a difficult choice*

*Edit - Between the last two :)

(ebay rules forbid me to list extra costs)

i smell bullshit

Yes, some very interesting ponderings for the DVLA/BIVA. Personally, I think Sierras are getting a bit rare now, so people should stop ripping them to bits to make shitty replicas/upgrade their old classic's gearbox/brakes/suspension.

I wouldn't use a Sierras brakes to upgrade a cart, they're fuggin shocking!!!

Fuck me, an Emax Eleanor. Where do I sign?

looks better than a sierra though

Err, no it doesn't.

A nice XR4i, Sapphy 2000E, XR4x4 and even a proper original with the slotted aero wheel trims looks okay.

Eleanor is an abortion, a badly customised Mustang from one of Nick Cage's worst films.

I rather spend £9600 on restoring a moribund pre-1987 Sierra L, Laser, LX, GL or Ghia to showroom condition...

Saw the demonstrator at Stafford kit car show in 2009, sounds nowt like a Sierra, 351Cui cleveland with all the correct bits bolted on.

Well put together its a decent enough replica and more original than building a cobra.. + keeping the Sierra chassis avoids the complication of an IVA test and means there is a chance of keeping an original year plate for the donor vehicle and not getting a Q plate.

Same guy builds the subaru powered RS200 replica too.

While we all find excuses not to like it cos we can't afford it, wouldn't we all secretly like one? Although maybe not on a Sierra chassis though . . . . . . . . .

A terminally rusty Opel Monza would have a better chassis and much better engine or even a Mk3 Granada which are still cheap, plentiful and not as worthy of being saved as the Mk1/2 models.

Either of these options would give more Mustang like performance too!

It is a pretty impressive feat, to have made that out of a Sierra. However if someone spends £15k building one to a decent standard you've got to wonder if they wouldnt actually be better off in a secure unit?

2.3 Indenor diesel mustang for the economy-conscious Steve McQueen wannabe.

You're not keeping the Sierra 'chassis' though. That's the problem. Sierras don't have a chassis. You're massively modifying a monocoque structure and currently, the DVLA are really not liking that.

I can put my hand up and say quite honestly that I don't want that. I'm not sure I want a Mustang either having driven one. Nice to look at doesn't always translate into a happy ownership/driving experience. Maybe that's why so much of us like autoshite - low expectations = joy!

Hmmmm. I'd plump for the Eleanor 1.3L myself - 30 mpg and it'll crack 90 at a push. Having said that, you could just say 'fuck the expense' and plump for the full-on Eleanor 2.3 Ghia with velours and an impresive array of warning lights - rev happy and powerful V6 allied to the 4LD auto. Peachy.

However, I imagine the Eleanor Laser - with CVH powaaaaah - will be the big seller.

No way is any ford cologne v6 able to be described as 'rev happy'! my XR4i sounds incredible, but it really isn't wanting to rev any more at about 4.5K!

Motto of this wag ridden story - Sierras are a bit crap, nice to drive, but slow and don't like to stop. Don't try and turn them into an iconic movie car, that's like painting a Starsky and Hutch stripe on a Marina 1800. FAIL.

I'd roll a Marina with Starsky and Hutch stripes! It's even better than a late Rialto in Trotter's independent traders livery.

If you're going to build an Eleanor, shouldn't it really be a bright yellow 73? That grey thing just looked shit from the very beginning, so replica? Nahhhhhhhhhhh, there's much better around if you know where to look...

All you need is a 70s Lincoln for the oily bits... :D

I think this is why they don't make DIY kits of this. It needs to be a sierra as the floor pan is the same wheelbase, the floor pan is strengthened and then the full cage added. The body is dropped over this and fixed (?) to the floorpan. From the reports I read it was favourably received by the mustang owners club and the modifications to the original sierra running gear were 'quite extensive'

I imagine a 2.9 4x4 would perform as well if not better than the original, especially around corners...

Look up 'humour' and 'irony' in your dictionary..........

You thought I was being serious?:D

What's wrong with your XR4i then? MY old Mk2 Granada 2.8 (on a carb!) would quite happily pull up to about 5,800rpm when it started to get a bit "no more" but would whizz past 4.5K very easily. Suggest you check the valve clearances, assuming yours hasn't got hydraulic lifters, if it has get some HLA treatment in it!

For the record, i have seen a Marina coupe with a Starsky and Hutch stripe on . . . . . . . . .
