warren t claim Posted January 10, 2011 Posted January 10, 2011 RIP Peter Yates. The man who virtually invented the modern celluloid car chase with his film Robbery.
trigger Posted January 10, 2011 Posted January 10, 2011 I've never heard of the film Robbery before so I've searched it on youtube and found the clip of the chase scene (thanks to autofives upload) What a great clip, God knows how they manage to keep those Jags on the road, They can't be the best handling car about at the time. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=1K-GT-_gziw
autofive Posted January 10, 2011 Posted January 10, 2011 according to an authority on brit films (youtube user banner 1979): The director of this movie, Peter Yates, went on the next year (1968) to direct Bullitt, with its well-known car chase sequence. This sequence from "Robbery" is rumoured to be the reason why Yates was selected as director of Bullitt.

I've heard the same story elsewhere, I think it was in Bellend Buckleys column about five years ago. The stuntman driving the police S Type was a guy called Joe Wadham who later went on to do plenty of driving stunts in The Sweeney.
pompei Posted January 10, 2011 Posted January 10, 2011 Returning to Gerry Rafferty, can I present two facts .. 1) I don't like much of his stuff, especially Baker Street 2) The urban myth that Bob Holness played sax on Baker Street was devised by Stuart Maconie.
