9999ME is, I believe, a French registration of a format last used in 1950. ME denoted the département Nord. The Bristol 170 (Freighter) was  introduced for cross  channel car ferrying in 1946.  Was the Audi reg British or French?

Pic says Southend 1950s. Any ideas on the other car?  Daimler maybe?

SCAL = SOCIETE COMMERCIALE AERIENNE du LITTORAL Operating Dates: 1946 - 1949.

Registered as CAT (Compagnie Air Transport) in Feb1949 and rebranded.

Operated cross channel car aircraft Bristol 170 into the UK.

Earlier than 1950s, possibly Stansted?

Maybe, just picking it from the TOC FB . Car is post war, but could be earlier than 1950.

I'm no expert on French registration systems.  Wiki suggests that cars registered within the old system were required to re-register only if the owner moved to a different département.  I assume that,  similar to the UK, the registration otherwise stays with the vehicle until it is scrapped.  The Citroen could easily have survived well into the 1950s or beyond.

From the photo it’s maybe 3 years old. Louvred bonnet, not the earlier moveable vents.

BBC Archive says 1949.  Also shows the car in front driving in.  https://www.bbc.co.uk/videos/cg66x7xqxqpo

Does not appear to be a Daimler.  I do not know what it is at the moment.

I’ve no idea either. Given it was the first car off in France I wonder if the french wanted a Citroen in the photo and placed it there?

Interesting that the clip shows two different aircraft, the Citroen isn't there, and it is said to be Lympne-le Touquet, not Southend....

The car looks American.

Who’d have thought that tv fakery was alive and well 80years ago!
