How do you find this out?

Is it something that anyone who REALLY cared could do?

Go to DVLA website click on is a vehicle taxed ,type in reg if it's been taxed since 74 it will give basic details.

Taxed since 1983, anything that was not taxed before 1983 got culled off the main system in the distant past (more specifically anything that saw no activity, so if something was tax due 1978 but had a keeper change in 1985, it would still show up today)

Ā

*however* most recently they changed it so that *any* vehicle that has *any* sort of scrapped marker against it, will *not* show up even tho there very much is a record for it, the DVLA are just out right lying to you when they say "no details found"

Ā

if you use the DVSA's MOT checker you can see there is still a record for such vehiclesĀ

I am not sure if this change was intentional or not, until recently it used to be that only vehicles with a CoD would falsely show "no information found" but now any vehicle with any sort of scrapped marker will show a false "no information found" so I dont know if someone fucked up or if they are just trying to obfuscate scrapped vehicles even more?

Ā

its something I have half a mind to wrangle the DVLA about it, because this hiding of vehicle records like this is not very good, especially from a history POV, if someone wants to know when a vehicle was last on the road for historic research, not being able to see its tax due date will hurt those efforts

but I digress...

DVLA in devious incompetence shocker not.

Doesn't surprise me one bit with them.
