Negative Creep

Not sure if this really counts as shite, but here it is anyway

Been back in the UK for nearly 2 months now and have worked enough hours to afford some transport. The sensible thing would be to buy a Micra or something to run around in but - well I think you can see where I'm coming from. Anyway, fancied something I've not owned before but without going insane on the fuel or insurance. Went to look at this one today and it turned out to be a tidy car owned by someone who'd taken care of it with a big book or receipts. It's a UK non turbo so nothing too exciting - the boosted version would be nice but simply too expensive. It has an induction kit and stainless exhaust as well as the later 15 inch wheels (which apparently help reduce the tendency to swap ends in the wet) but otherwise standard. Drove fine on the way home, and being stuck in an M25 traffic jam after someone managed to flip their Corsa on its roof confirmed there's no cooling problems! Everything seems to work as it should and the exhaust gives a nice tone without being too loud. Throttle is somewhat sensitive so still trying to get used to that but that aside it's a nice place to sit in. Just two quick photos at the moment, I'll get some better ones once it's all road legal.

Unfortunately I can't afford the tax or insurance until Wednesday, which is when we may get heavy snow again hence it will be useless.

That's what I like to see, avoid the sensible route and go for something indulgent and 20 years old. Good man yerself! :D

It's nice to see an unmolested one, they're a real wank Barry modification favourite.

Looks tidy....I like the ones that didn't have the rear spoiler too, I guess they are thin on the ground!

That was the base level with something like 120bhp as opposed to the 150 or so this one has. Extra shite points certainly but I don't think they look right without the spoiler. Oh and there will be no Barry Boy mods at all. I will change the stereo but won't chuck the old one (still the original including a CD player - must have cost a fair bit in 1990!). Other than that I'll just drive it as it is and sell it in a few months to buy something different again

Nice one. Um, that's about all I can think of to say as I've been distracted by a GORGEOUS Mk1 Astra estate for sale on Retro-Rides which is obviously far more win, but I do like these MR2s.

Day insurance for the test drive and trip home. Admittedly I took a chance on the tax but I'm sure we've all done that from time to time

Yup! Got nabbed when I went to the post office next day for tax :D

MR2 looks like a fun old thing though. Almost never see them now without some form of barrification unfortunately.

Had a '90 MR2 myself (in 1998). looked at some grey imports, but got scared by ECU unobtanium stories. No dramas to report with mine (until my ex-fiancee smacked it into the back of a Transit. The same silly cow wrote of my Escrote GTi too)

That's the 3S-GE donkey in yours, ought to be pushing 160BHP or thereabouts. Back brakes can be sticky if the car is left idle for a while, and ISTR being told about duff wiring into the ECU, but which was easily fixed. I was offered a 91 in green for nowt 2 years ago, but it was a rusty shitbox. Yours looks tasty.
