Tennessee Shite: 30 October 2024 Update!

Am I wrong in thinking that all the Subaru rally cars were originally developed by a small company here in the UK?

Hey, I didn't say that the US didn't go rallying, just that the general public thereof never "got" it, as in understood/enthused/cared about it.

More Shite from the Volunteer State.

Merkur XR4Ti. AKA a German-built Ford Sierra with a turbocharged 2.3 litre four-pot sold in the US from 1985-89 through selected Lincoln-Mercury dealers. I once had a 1985 model in silver. Rare as hen's teeth today.

I'll take it! Crate it up and send it over please... (I wish!)

What that Honda needs is a Dodge Ram correctly parked in front and behind. He'd be there until they decided to leave...

56 Ford might be low-spec but you can't argue with such pure style, can you!

Another lovely selection sir, thank you.

The wheels on that Smurf-mobile are just ridiculous!

The Merkur Scorpio looks fine but the front end styling doesn't look as tidy as the Ford derivitive.

The day glo Camry estate is mega! I bet the owner is an art student or an artist and is a fruit loop.

The Merkur XR4Ti is interesting with the 2.3 engine. I would have thought that it would have either matched the 2.8 V6 as in the Ford Sierra XR4i - or even upped the ante with a V8 lump. :|

Great spots! 8) Beetle looks incredibly tidy.

The set square designed Tercel 4x4 was available in the UK from c.1985-88 when it was replaced by a more stylish Corolla estate 4x4.

That Yugo is mega! :D

There is a horrific Nissan 350Z here in Nashville that I keep spotting. Every time i see it, it gets worse and worse.

Here are the first photos I was able to get, taken in September of 2010:

100_2685.jpg?t=1285196530

The bodykit looks like it was tacked on with a hammer and nails!

100_2686.jpg?t=1285196624

Marvel at the tight-fitting panel gaps! :wtf:

100_2683.jpg?t=1285196702

Is there a fuel filler nozzle somewhere deep inside this hole? I love the exposed rivets, too!

100_2688.jpg?t=1285196776

He fitted a wide-body kit but didn't bother to widen the car's track? Err, okay.

100_2684.jpg?t=1285196924

What quality craftsmanship!

100_2687.jpg?t=1285197011

Evidently, he didn't have a ruler with which to cut a straight line? Even the exposed rivet heads don't line-up with each other!

100_2689.jpg?t=1285197085

Wheels and tyres look lost deep inside the wheel arches.

100_2690.jpg?t=1285197214

Overspray on the headlamp covers? Check.

100_2691.jpg?t=1285197909

I have no idea what this means. I'm guessing the owner doesn't, either.

100_2692.jpg?t=1285197538

In October of 2010, I spotted a guy in this same car pulling out of Hooters (so you know he's a classy sort of bloke!) but it was dark and he was on the move, so a photo was out of the question. By this point, he'd painted the bottom half of the doors black. Obviously, this masterpiece was still a work in progress!

By December of 2010 I spotted it again and was able to snap a few pics from the safety of my car before the owner and his girlfriend came back out.

100_2877.jpg?t=1292290809

.

100_2878.jpg?t=1292291098

.

100_2879.jpg?t=1292291156

The red 350Z parked next to it was pretty bad, too!

I hadn't seen this monstrosity since then and I sort of assumed the owner had either crashed it or perhaps one of his ill-advised engine modifications had lunched the engine. Then, lo and behold, I spotted it again just this past week! It was parked outside a sleezy-looking tattoo parlour (where else?) along a busy road. Since it was parked right outside the plate glass window of the tattoo parlour and I could see some semi-evolved neanderthals sitting inside, I knew I was taking a huge risk snapping these pictures. However, I'm sure you will agree that risking life and limb was absolutley worth it! The things I do for Autoshite!!!

100_3348.jpg?t=1316746496

.

100_3349.jpg?t=1316746511

.

100_3350.jpg?t=1316746529

.

100_3351.jpg?t=1316746549

.

100_3352.jpg?t=1316746565

.

100_3353.jpg?t=1316746578

.

100_3354.jpg?t=1316746594

As I was briskly walking past and trying to discretely take the last photo, a young girl comes out of the tattoo parlour and shouts at me about why I'm taking pictures of the car. I pretended to be on my mobile phone so that I wouldn't have to acknowledge her and made a hasty escape to my car which I wisely parked a few doors down the street. Knowing the area pretty well, I zig-zaged down a few side roads in case anyone tried to follow me by car. Luckily, I managed to make a clean escape.

The carbonfibre bonnet is new and there appears to be a bit more stick-on chrome but otherwise it's still as awful as ever!

I also noticed the number plate has changed. Possibly a new owner, perhaps? (Note: in Tennessee the plate stays with the driver, not the car)

I hope you have enjoyed the evolution of the world's worst Nissan 350Z. If I see it again, I'll try to get some more pics. Let's hope I don't get shot doing so!

I don't get this weird tendency to modify cars until they look dreadful. This looks like a 350Z replica that was assembled in some far flung communist dictatorship, using only poor quality photocopies and the wrong measurements.

I'm not against modification. Maybe it starts innoccently enough, a spoiler here, some aftermarket wheels there, but you'd think at some point they'd look out of the window and think "OH MY GOD! WHAT HAVE I DONE?!"

Either she has regretted bastardising the Z and is embarrassed about iy or maybe the car is known to the Sherriff's Office?

It's been a while since I've posted but now I'm back with a fresh batch of Shite from Tennessee: the state that made eating roadkill legal!

http://www.nashvillescene.com/nashville ... id=1182884

Anyway, here are my latest Shite-worthy spots!

A crap photo of a crap car. A Buick with anawful fake cabrio roof.

100_3344.jpg

Autoshite Limo Service. When only the best...erm, I mean adequate will do!

100_3355.jpg?t=1316746462

.

100_3356.jpg?t=1316746476

Spotless Porsche 914.

100_3371.jpg?t=1320878352

.

100_3373.jpg?t=1320878349

It's old, but is it shite? 1960 Chevrolet Impala. You can use the Isuzu Trooper parked next to it to determine the size of this beast!

100_3365.jpg?t=1320878368

.

100_3366.jpg?t=1320878366

.

100_3367.jpg?t=1320878363

.

100_3368.jpg?t=1320878361

.

100_3369.jpg?t=1320878358

.

100_3370.jpg?t=1320878355

Acura RL (known to you lot as the Honda Legend) with some rather "interesting" personal modications.

100_3393.jpg?t=1320880398

Ahh, now here's a sight that warms my heart. A wonderfully original Volvo 245!

100_3391.jpg?t=1320880334

Fiat 124 Spider.

100_3390.jpg?t=1320880336

Ford Gran Torino.

100_3379.jpg?t=1320880447

And another Ford, this time a fecking huge LTD Coupe.

100_3376.jpg?t=1320880346

.

100_3377.jpg?t=1320880343

A uglified Honda Civic. How predictible.

100_3347.jpg

And another one, this time with heavy metalflake paintwork.

100_3342.jpg

A close-up.

100_3341.jpg

It seems this paint doesn't stick to plastic bumpers and mirror housings very well!

100_3340.jpg

.

Another Civic "ricer", as we call them over here. Quality of modifications exhibit the usual standard of workmanship.

100_3383.jpg

What is it about Honda Civics that attract the mentally retarded?

I don't need to thanks, I've been in one! :D Many years ago now, but still.... And I have friends in Manchester with a 59, which I've parked beside at shows. IIRC the Impala measures about 17ft 6, which is a bit past a Rolls Royce Silver Shadow. Size matters. I love that generation of GM sedans.

Crusty Toyota Celica. Haven't seen one of these in yonks.

Chevrolet Impala.

Speaking of old BMWs with huge bumpers, here's a 1974 2002 owned by an enthusiast.

I have no idea what Sweet Water is but this hippy-spec Dodge Ram 1500 van was promoting it.

Marvellous thread :)

If we assume the person in that black cab hailed it at the rank near my house, it would cost them between 13 and 16 thousand pounds to go to Nashville. That price does not include the £50 vomit clean up charge resulting from the ocean crossing.

Of course, that trip is impossible, because there are never any taxis in the rank near my house.
