New shite aquired - 1991 Peugeot 309

Picked up this little beauty today for scrap value off my cousin, who had taken it in on a PX on a Corsa.

It has Tax til February and test until June (apparantly) - MOT document is not present but im chasing that up.

its a J reg (August 1991) 1.3 GL model. done 115k and has had 3 owners since new - last owner since 2002.

doesnt like the cold too much, but when it gets going its not a bad little runner to be fair, ive been throwing it around the roads today and its quite a responsive little motor!. - plus it still has the original white wheeltrims. 8)

Never really liked the 309s in the past, always thought they were a bit like the runt of the Peugeot litter - but they are so rare on the roads nowadays ive quite warmed to them - in an autoshite way!.

Painwork is poor - bonnet has pain and lackre peeling off, on the whole though its pretty tidy for a 19 year olf motor - no dents or scuffs, only thing ive seen that is broken as such is the glovebox catch.

I have always liked these. I always thought the design was quite sleek and stood out for the other cars of the time despite being a tarted up Horizon. My parent got one new in 88, E318 JRV. It was a GE and actually replaced out Horizon (FSW 365Y). Pug was on the road until 2005 according to Doovla. I bought one a few years back but it was a right wreck.

My mates (?) decided to smash the shit out of it when they were drunk. Accidentally dented the door falling into it. My mate said 'I know how to get that out' and went round to the other door and kicked that as hard as he could asking 'Did that work'? Tosser. But then everyone else joined in until it looked ab bit like that one the indian guy made in the 206 ad.

UUX - a Shropshire number plate, now in Wrexham. It's stayed quite local in its 19 years. :)

It's not a tarted up Horizon, though 1.3s do have the old Talbot OHV engine, the 309 is based on the same platform as the 205.

Sorry my bad. I remember the salesman in the Pug garage down the side of the Aquarena in Worthing saying that (I know, what kind of salesmanship is that?) and just always believe it was true.

Was due to replace the Horizon, maybe that's what you were thinking of. IIRC, the name was to be "Arizona"

might see if I can pick up a cheap red bonnet in better condition.

id imagine such a thing would be pretty rare though!

Well done!

I've got a couple of spare white wheeltrims if you need them.

Just what I was thinking. My money is on Budgen Motors or Roy Evans.

I must admit, that a nice 309 GTi Goodwood is rising up my list of 'wants'. Very nice.

I'd love a 309 GTi, I got to drive one years ago, i feel in love with it instantly, I was very close to buying it as it was a garage's part exchange but sadly the insurance for a 19 year old at the time was crippling though.

I'd sell a kidney for a nice Goodwood now, What a seriously good looking car.

Nice buy. 8) Have always liked the 'Goodwood' models.

Looks wise, the 309 was a 100% improvement on the Talbot Horizon.

I like the 309! My mother bought one new in 1988 - F543XFY, a metallic blue SR with electric front windows and blue velour seats. It drove well and was really comfortable with an excellent ride for a small car. Despite what people say, I think they are quite pretty too. Maybe I'm mad?

What was the Goodwood? Are they green 309 GTIs with leather seats, or have I imagined that?

Mine was very much like this, a 5door Goodwood on a J plate, slightly lowered, with the badges pinched off it.

It was £595 with full ticket, probably when prices were at their lowest about 7 or 8 years ago. I loved it. I munched through the first set of tyres, then I put cyclones from a 306 on, which also looked great. In 2006 after I moved to Thailand I sold it with no test, damage to the front (snow chaos), and suspected HGF, and still got almost what I paid for it.

I've just Googled 309 Goodwood, and saw a pic of my 309 Goodwood at a Peugeot Sport Club show, then noticed it was on Autoshite...... !!!!!! Gutted, At least it had a compliment though!!!:lol:

^ with a forum called 'Autoshite' , I guess it is natural to expect the worst.

Yeh, it's nothing to be gutted about...but if you stick around you will find that out for yourself!
