2.3 Petrol Manual with Overdrive

MOT until May 2011

110K ish

We used Bernard in the summer to spend 3 weeks travelling round the Outer Hebrides wild camping. We are moving house and so wont have room to store her otherwise we would be keeping Bernard. She is a fantastic van, good on petrol (30mpg) and can cruise at 70 all day long. In that time we covered over 2000 without any hassle. The 2.3 means that she has got a lot of poke and has no problem on motorways

Loads of history including a manual put together by a previous owner.

Since I have had her she has had

New alternator fitted (£80)

New Master Brake Cylinder fitted (£50)

Fitted Larger Saab windscreen wipers

Saab 93 seats fitted for driver and passenger to make life more comfortable

Fitted new Marine water pump(over £90) so washing up and filling the kettle is easy

Had Rev counter, Fuel Gauge and Water Temp fitted (£200)

Van Spec

2 Bunks in roof plus either two single beds or a double

Table and seating for 4

Gas cooker

Gas fridge

Central Heating (although we didn’t use it and not sure if it works)

Sink with pump

Waste Water tank

Has a Kenlowe fan fitted

It has a 25 litre fresh water tank

Electric hook up (cable included)

Inside lights to use at night

12v Sockets (adapter include to turn them into cigarette socket)

Includes loads of extras such as

Unused Solar Power Shower

Portable Gas cooker (to take to the beach

Pop up table

Spare alternator

New Brake Servo (not fitted yet)

Plus tons more

The bodywork isn’t mint but we didn’t have any issues at all when we were away including sleeping in her in a howling gale. It is certainly eye catching paint scheme and everyone wants to talk to you

Only downside I can find is that under hard braking the van pulls to the right. I think that this would be a wheel cylinder needed (about £7) but I just have run out of time because we are moving house.

Nope CF 1 but facelift. Otherwise it would have front discs and other bits. Still got Drums all round !

Which at 70 mh is certainly interesting.

Brilliant for use in scotland wild camping. We pretty much parked on the beach each day. We were eating our breakfast watching the sea .. living the dream :)

moog - did you guys sleep in the roof or in the beds -

my Sherpa has the same autosleeper conversion - the only differnece is no double just 2 singles and they are pretty narrow at that -

the rule book says under 80 kilos for the hammocks and I am a few (well, several) over that - but the hammocks do look more comfortable

oh and by the way GET A HAIRCUT YOU SMELLY HIPPY

Not brave enough for the bunk beds ! Plus way over 80 kilos .. :D

It does two singles (but with the org seats fitted rather than the comfy saab) which are long or a double (head to toe) which is made using the table top.

I do need a bit of a trim up top!

The amount of people who stopped to chat because of the van was amazing. Plus everyone remembers you (not sure it is a good thing).

And Gents the ladies love a bit of Bernard. Roll in this and you will be fighting them off. No more having to take them home .. you can use the back just pull the curtains.

Ah, good ol' Bernard. My best mate was the previous owner, so Bernard's pretty well known to me. We slept in her (yes, Bernard's a her) before we owned her, but never when we actually did own her! (we instead lent her to a pair of Norwegians for a 2CV meet). Bernard really does shift, and the overdrive is wonderful.

I'd love to buy her but have zipo cash until the new year due to being between jobs and christmas round the corner -

would be a nice alternative to the Sherpa - faster, more comfortable and a bit wider

but with the same wonderful 70's autoshiteness!

I am sure we could come to some sort of deal Scooters :) My missus would be happy with it gone from the drive even if it meant some of the cash slightly later

Bernard is sold! To a really nice American Chap who intends to use her for a year then ship her back to the states. That girl is going to get about. :D

well done mate -

I tried but Mrs Scooters kaiboshed the plan big time!

No worries. Best bit was my missus wants to get a Bernard mark 2 in the not too distant future.. :D
