Was it supposed to be the replacement for the Omega?

Yes it was, in my opinion the Omega was a much better car, if a little rust prone.

UPDATE!!!

head Honcho of "Asset Management - Transport" rang me this afternoon, and the conversation went badly.

HH- " Hi, you've put a bid in on Signum, asset number xxxx."

Me- "Yes, I'm guessing you're calling me to say I'm the highest bidder" (said in a jokey way)

HH- "No, I'm ringing to say that I'm not even going to put your bid into the auction process, as it's way less that we are expecting, and bordering on the frivolous."

Me- "Well, sorry, after discussing this car with people in the car trade, it's potential auction, and or trade price, I think it's more than fair."

HH- "We have had the vehicle professionally appraised, and they have said it's worth £4500, so we have to be looking more in that ballpark. Frankly your bid is not in the ballpark, I'm actually wondering if you're playing the same game!"

Me- "I take exception to that last comment, I will not be increasing my bid. £4500 may be what it ends up at on a dealers forecourt, but it's not what it's worth either at auction, or as a trade-in. Thats why I bid what I did, and frankly I find it offensive that you are attempting to fleece staff members of their money in order to not have your backside spanked on the trade in of a car, that you doubtless got at a fat discount in the first place."

HH- "Ok then, if that's how you feel, but you need to learn some respect. I'm a senior manager in this company, and your attitude stinks. We have a responsibilty to the company to acheive targets, and this something for nothing attitude of yours is disgraceful. Who is your line manager?"

Me- "Alf Twatt. (not his real name)

HH - Ok, he will be hearing from me." Click.

What a prize tool.

quality, i hope they get bum raped by auction fee's when it has to keep going through, they should ask the guy that appraised it to buy it.

Posted

I just tried "We Rip Any Buyer" and their bosses at Carcraft reckon £1150 for a 54 plate.

Posted

I'll have to find out who appraised it, gonna get my firms tame mechanic to have a dig about.

Doubtless it's someone with some sort of vested interest, and absolutely matey has been told the RETAIL price, rather than the trade one.

Fuck 'em. probably a lucky escape anyway.

I've got no worries about my boss moaning at me, he's a decent bloke.

Seems a funny sort of sealed bid auction if they are ringing people up to say "your bid isn't high enough, so we are ignoring it"... If they have a higher bid why not just ignore all the lower ones? I'm guessing you are/were the only interest.

I wonder if there's some sort of legality that could be pulled here. I bet there is, and I reckon that Mr Self-Important Acquisitions Knobhead would get seriously reamed if it were to be taken that bit further...

... only problem is, you'd end up with a Vauxhall. So it's not worth the hassle.

I did think it was a bit odd, but I really can't be arsed to stir the shit at the moment. If he tries fucking me over, I'll be back on it.

Crikey, it's not like you offered 10p for it. Imagine what he'd be like if he stuck it on eBay!

ORITE M8, GIV U 100 TONITE 4 CAR?

Seems ridiculous they have a sealed bid auction thing, then ring you up and threaten you if your bid is not high enough for them. Maybe eBay could learn from these boys, i'd be more inclined to list stuff on there if I could blackmail bidders into paying too much.

Are they threatening you because yours was the highest/only bid?

Posted

Perhaps you are being victimised because you showed an interest in a Vauxhall. They are trying to beat it out of you.

I tried it at the firm I work for a few months after I started. We had an 'on site' Astra Mk3 dizzler that was very low miles but a) full of cherry (legally I might add) and B) as rough as bollocks. Got hold of the lease company and they wanted stupid money for it.

As luck would have it I then tapped a contracting company and scored an LDV 200 pick up (very tidy with loads of tax and test), a Transit crew bus that was incredibly rough and two dog eared LDV200 crewbuses (with Perkins engines, and which went like fuck) for £200 the lot. They also had the 300 version pick-up I could have had for nowt but it was absolutely shagged.

In today's "corporate ethics" drive, which is strongly contesting H&S for using up the hours in a day, I would say that HH is in for a real bollocking. I know of people losing their jobs for behaviour like that. Signum winner or not, you'll still have the last laugh I reckon.

On the subject of pretend Vectras, I saw a Mercedes estate today that looked just like a Vectra from the back. How the mighty have fallen.

Yeah but build quality? Nuff said!

Agreed, yours was the only bid but it's so pitifully low the transport manager knows he's in for a kicking if the valuable asset he bought for £15k has depreciated by more than his spreadsheet says is allowed.

I say submit a revised bid for half the amount :D

Posted

I wouldn't go too nuts. Ok, HH will end up getting reamed, which would be good, but if you're not careful you might end up owning the Signum.

Posted

I reckon you should become some kind of "problem employee" that the higher management daren't touch, this technique works well for me.

Well, it looks like Autoshite has cost you your job. Just remember I said Signums were GR8!

Bol, it's typical upstairs \ downstairs management bluster. They think you should show them respect because they're higher up the pecking order than you. The trouble is, they keep opening their mouths, and whatever image you had of them shatters like porcelain on a concrete floor.

These types never understand that if they spoke less, and made sense when they did, this elusive 'respect' they gibber on about would appear as if by magic. I used to pull management up all the time at my last place because they contradicted themselves so often it was hilarious.

Predictably, they hated me.

Trying to achieve a profit by screwing their own staff on overpriced cars they are trying to get shot of - FAIL

Looks like poor old Alf Twatt is in for a right twatting.......

when you come to get rid you will struggle to get a buyer!

Run Away...........

If it was cheap enough I would buy it. If only to tow my van with.

Back online so I can update - but nothing really to report.

Got a call from my boss "Alf Twatt" on Thursday, responding to a complaint from matey boy in asset management. Apparently I was aggressive, and disrepectful towards him.

Alf took my point that the Signum was over-valued, then warned me off buying it anyway, as he had heard that a) its company poicy to attempt to get market value ie RETAIl money for the vehicles it owns, and B) this particular "asset" was subject to a near-death experience with a Transit van on the A14 about 10 months ago, and has never been the same since.

He's going to tell Asset-man to go shove his complaint up his arse, and I officially withdrew my bid on friday.

Seeing its been damaged in the past i'd revise the bid to £850.
