Record Breaking Landy Defender.

On my way home today I was cruising down the M56 at about 90 when to my utter surprise a 57 plate Landy Defender 90 screamed past me! Out of curiosity I sped up to see how fast it was going and according to my Garmin it was motoring along at an unbelievable (are you sitting down?) 113 MPH!!!!!!!! On the flat!!!!!

 

It was putting out the odd puff of smoke whenever he lifted off so I'm sure it was a diesel but what the hell had he done to it to make it so quick? A 57 plate will be a Duratorque won't it? Are they tuneable/chippable?

I got the work's old Defender to 70 mph down the M53, it took about 10 minutes and topped out before the corner towards Eastham.

It's possible to get close to 200 (unreliable) bhp from the old 300 TDi lump, so I imagine the Duratorq lump is capable of similar feats of silliness.

 

Chap I know had one of those stupid jacked up, big wheeled, roofracked Discos with the old TDi lump blueprinted and running frankly mental boost levels, it was bloody quick. Smoked like the truck from Duel, but it wasn't slow.

 

Then it's just a case of playing with gearing.

TD5Alive, apparantly, is one of the best ways... my mate planned to use them on his hideously unreliable Disco until he finally saw the light and bought a Y-reg Orion/Focus Saloon thing.

 

Some quite amazing videos on their website, drifting Discos and 90s seems like the perfect Autoshite Grand Prix.

A ten year old wouldn't get it at all. The film is about middle aged impotence in the face of threat. It's about helplessness. You have to have lived a bit to get the terror.
