A 1991 Honda Beat........seems cheap [£500] and apparently all is well with it.......anything I should look for?

Christ, that is cheap. Rust is the obvious one - a near-20 year old JDM car that wouldn't have had much in the way of factory rust protection as a result and, presumably, has lived near the sea (in Jersey) for some proportion of it's life.

 

Otherwise I know nothing about these - they appear to use a 660cc triple that may have been shared with the Honda Today (of which I saw a reasonable amount in Guernsey when I lived there - perhaps Jersey is the same?) - have a look at the owners' club site at http://www.u-ukhbc.co.uk

Always fancied one of these, never got around to doing anything about it though. 660cc non-turbo Kei class - apparently they scream like a banshee in high (8-10rpm) revs and handle really well.

 

The hoods frequently look a bit awkward around the side windows and poppers. Poppers being hand made by some fella on the Beat UK forum for people at the time IIRC. You could still souce the hoods from the UK too.

There are still a few "Todays" in Jersey and Guernsey. This was registered new in Jersey, and is apparently rust free,...............we'll see

I think there's a red Beat somewhere on my spots thread, I've seen a couple advertised in the local paper for £250 and £1500 respectively. Possibly the same one...?

There was a guy owned one, where I lived in Glasgow in the early 90's. It might even have been one of the Mugen ones, I'm not sure.

My dad got chatting to him one night, and it turned out he was a BA pilot who'd bought it new in Japan, and had it shipped over. He loved its' ability to go everywhere at full throttle! Anytime I saw it out and about, the horses certainly weren't being spared. So to say.

I can see, on that basis, why it would work in Jersey. Sounds worth it for the shits'n'giggles anyway!
