Not sure how the insurance group worked with these, though they are easy to break into.

 

Just realised that I may have confused this one with the Persona :oops: Some of those went up to IG 14, iirc. :shock:

 

I recall about 10 years ago some young chap at my work had a J reg 4 door saloon in silver with bodykit and alloys (dealer fit?). It looked pretty cool. 8) Made a change from the many pimped up Astras and Escorts of the time. :D

 

I also vaguely recall a What Car? group road test from around 1989 with a silver 1.3 GLS Aeroback vs the Rover Maestro 1.3 Special, Vauxhall Astra 1.2 'Merit' & the Mitsubishi Colt 1300 L or GL (?) 'brad van' hatchback. I think the Proton came 3rd out of 4th, despite looking like the better specced car compared against the other base model cars.

 

I really like the look of these early Protons, the Persona slightly less but still OK, the Impian not at all. The Satria Neo looks great but very cheap looking inside. As time goes on, I tend to dislike them more and more...maybe they should go back to using old Mitsubishi bodies?

That be the one which met it's end on Y'alltoob under a tank. Doesn't look that rough either, probably bastardised by 5 to make it look worse than it is.

 

Strangely I don't ever recall a major Proton passenger door opening scandal...
