I feel like I am rather letting the side down these days with a rather pathetic showing of automobiles.

Though it's definately less stressful than the 'good old days' when we'd have 5 or 6 and none of them working...

For the purpose of family duties and moving stuff about...

+ can seat 7 in total comfort, dual zone A/C, mega frugal & excelsior at motorways, HUGE amount of space for fetching & carrying

- dull to the point of being painful, "cheaper by the dozen" image, plus who puts light grey cloth in a car aimed at those carrying sticky-fingered little people?

Currently fulfilling 'everyday car' duties:

+ Looks lovely, goes fast(ish), economical(ish), GR8 4 DRFTN (or at least going round corners more quickly than is sensible

- falling apart at the seams, rusty arches, derided as a 'chavmobile' (rather unfairly I think)

I keep forgetting that I own an old Rover too. Basically a V5, tags & plates in a drawer plus some iron oxide sat in a field.

+ Tax exempt

- Everything else. Dustpan & brush job.

That Buckley story is great.

Nice to see an Integra that isn't white Gompo! Is it a UK car? I've always quite fancied one.

Cheers. Yes it's a UK one, I wanted one with 'history' and they're also less to insure. Modified slightly (not by me) but it's probably the better for it. The looks have grown on me where I now really like it, but the aesthetics were one of the last reasons I got it..

Peter C- Im based in Tavistock, Devon. Being that far away usually means that getting the latest buy back is a real mission, quite often a fair mileage which is usually a pretty thorough shakedown- for cars in my price range that has sometimes meant "eventful" roadtrips. great fun though! I usually manage to get back myself. One year the AA were pretty pissed off (in recent years ive got more picky, or more lucky :D )

Martin Buckley left under the seat some Lou Reed cassettes which I listened to on the way back, I seemed to remember he wrote about liking him. Thankfully He also left me the cushion on the drivers seat to save my bottom from the coil spring protruding from the seat!

Mat.t- Thats a nice looking 900- I guess the base model must now be a lot rarer than the turbo models? What sort of economy do you get with it?

Posted

thanks! economys not to bad when I first got it I was getting around 25mpg or less, since a good tune up, ignition timing, setting up the carb properly, new vaccum pipes, carb diaphragm I'm getting a good 35mpg! Must be quite rare I only ever see the convertible models not seen another 2 door whilst drive it yet

Currently driving around in this 626, it's a 2.0 GLX which means you get blue velour, a tape deck and electric windows/sunroof. Actually pretty quick and great handling.

5045168806_2a8778e582_o.jpg

Charmant is more fun to drive though (and also has great handling).

5044563169_b3ed815546_o.jpg

The other obscure Daihatsu, has turbo and 4WD. Pog doesn't like it, which is strange because women usually do.

5044509863_737272606a_b.jpg

Scruffy Stanza, actually tested up but I'm waiting on a new radiator before I tax it, don't want to risk it as the CA engines love a good headgasket.

5045138702_a784fec72a_o.jpg

Accord Hatchback, away for welding at the moment. Drives very nice though.

5045143998_491540fc43_o.jpg

Laurel Taxi, formerly Sarai Taxi of Okayama. LPG-only with an enormous canister in the boot. Completely vinyl interior. 1800, so not very quick either.

323 Estate, it's the late 1.5 model which many people say is "very fast". Needed an exhaust (which I recently obtained). Don't really have any good pictures of that one. It'll be on the conveyor belt after the Accord I think. Surprisingly straight car.

Galant, this one is bafflingly popular. Done loads of miles in it. I like the way you have to spin the steering wheel a million turns lock-to-lock.

Also co-own a 90s 626 and a 90s Galant and I think that's the current fleet done. Hooray!

What's happened to your Primera eGT?

Hirst, that is an impressive collection. Theres something familiar about that galant- has it been featured in a car mag? I like the alloys

Galant is pretty cool. I guess they are starting to make good money these days? If not, they should!

They are worth about as much as what's in my pocket (a pear drop I stole from the kitchen).

Hirst, I thought you'd sold the small daihatsu turbo-nutter thingy or is that another one?

Not much in the way of change in the Seth_fleet. I suppose in the last year the MGB came and went.

The Hillman got shiny wheels for the summer. Must get them off now before they go rusty...

The Herald got a Japanese heart transplant

That was another one:

Faster, but not as good to drive - only enjoyed being buzzed up to the redline and a bit irritating otherwise. Ideal for those weird country roads on my old route to work, but not much fun around town. Very grabby clutch and not much low-end power (compared to the other one).

Seth, what's powering the Harold now?

VWP, I take it you can't just 'convert' the Accord headlights with beam deflectors...

no they are quiet funny about that nowdays  found headlights just german bloke wont send them to me

Bloody Germans. I won a pair of RHD headlamps from a chap in Germany and he seemed to be unable to send them to the UK! Eventually negged him and the twat negged me back. Not a good experience.

MX5 engine.

Correct! MX5 gearbag too. None of that new fangled fuel injection though, just good old SUs.

Thanks for Hillman compliments too. Steve_A, strictly speaking its neither Minx nor Hunter but simply a "1968 Hillman Estate".

How much does the it test the old swing axles?

Not as such. Currently being serialised in Retro Cars mag. I'll probably put something on-line at a later date once that has finished.

The rear end has a 1" lowering block between diff and spring so it sits lower and with some negative camber and is much less likely to jack under. That and adjustable Koni shocks work a treat.

Love the LT Seth, had to drive one around London for years. Underpowered with the big ol box but understeer was great fun in the wet.

It's been owned by two people on here before Hirst - Reallyloud, then me. I sold it onto Matt from Practical Classics magazine, who took it to the Nurburgring in some feature along with a few other cheapies, must be a couple of years ago now? Sadly I never got it on the road - I sold an Accord 3dr I had, putting some cash into my pocket to get it sorted, but then I found a lovely Accord EX only a mile from home and bought that instead.
