1990 Nissan Bluebird 2.0GSXi automatic. Three owners from new, last one was a lady who'd had it 17 years.

Taxed end of Jan 2011, MOT'd August 2011. Recent tyres/exhaust.

Range topping model, has electric windows, alloys, two trip meters, power steering, electric sunroof, electric mirrors, central locking etc.

98,000 on the clock.

Runs/starts/drives superbly, car has obviously been very well cared for and won't disappoint.

Original and unspoilt, really is a cracking car and very nice to drive.

Known faults:

Driver's electric window doesn't work (not looked into why this is.

Couple of rust spots (NOT rot or holes).

I'm not convinced the interior heater gets hot.

Inside is mint, seats look unotouched and the car has spent the last 17 years being garaged every ngiht and all the time it wasn't in use.

Pictures to follow later.

£425 ono

Consider swap or something cheaper and money my way, try me! Note I haven't got any money to add so same price or cheaper please.

What floats my boat?

Small car (maxiumum of 1.2 engine) for my son to learn to drive in.

4x4 with decent MOT for some off roading fun. No big petrol engines though please.

Old Vauxhall.

Vespa/Lambretta/LML scooter.

Transit van.

Or w.h.y?

No Mondeos, Escorts, Kas, Lagunas or modern Rovers though please. Oh and no project cars/cars with no MOT either sorry, haven't the time/room money.

Car is in Chester, Cheshire. If you live miles away feel free to ask anyone you like to inspect it for you and report back in private, I have nothing to hide.

Billy, if you are over near Nantwich at all I have some spare relays you could try on that window.

The Mondeo went straight through the MOT by the way... :D

Many thanks, hoping to get to Crewe sometime soon to visit a fish shop. Good news on the Mondeo, always a nice touch when you get an easy MOT!

Bump.

Can't believe it's still here, £350 anyone?

Posted

Perhaps it's too good for us shite-lovers! LS spec would maybe be more attractive?

Seriously though, it's a superb motor for the dosh. If I didn't still have a CX etc, etc...

Posted

Is it up for sale elsewhere Billy?

Posted

Dolly: cheers chief.

Mr S: Indeed sir, it's on RR.

I'd eBaY it but it'll probably either get 'won' by some pondlife who won't show up, or a smackhead who just wants something 'legal'.

Ah Billy,

Have to admit I've been perving over this, as a possible replacement for one's BX, and have been reading up about the Bluey (or Stanza!) on Wikipaedia and stuff... and trying to justify it to myself  .

Pro: +1 corrosion resistance bonus, and it's auto which means, if Lucy liked it, she could drive it!

It's a (pre Renault) Nissan - Lucy got on well with her K10 Micra, and I had one too that was a cracker.

Con: I was meant to be finding a way to save money if I was replacing the BX, like with less tax and more mpg...

Erm - I can't think of much else!

One reservation is about the heater with winter coming up - have you found out what's up?

My Dad happens to live in Knutsford too...

Do you have moar pics - like of underbonnet, interior, rust spots etc.?

Thing is, we're really quite close to the wedding now - like a week and a half, so it's all systems go for that.

Maybe I'll show Lucy some pics and see what she says. Chances are she'll think it's too old and ask why am I not after summat newer than I have already... but we'll see. She is actually after a new car pretty urgently if she doesn't get the job she's being interviewed for next week... The lease period is due to end on the Jazz (smooth...) and she can't afford to buy it outright or replace with something new with the prospect that she may lose her current job next summer....

I haven't looked at heater yet sorry Mark. I did note it takes ages for the temp guage to start moving so I'm hoping it's thermostat related. I do about seven miles each way to work and the gauge either hasn't moved or only a tiny amount.

Obviously it could the heater matrix, as I'm assuming that's what these have?

More pictures shouldn't be a problem, I need to hoover the interior but that will only take ten minutes at most and I'll brab some of the rust spots. I did notice what looks like some pretty comical OAP style overspray on the n/s/r bumper and some fading of the bumper itself, will try and capture that too.

Knutsford only about 30 minutes or so from here if you do want a good look over it by the way.

My sister and her then husband had a 1.6 LS saloon in black. Even that wasn't so much a shite spec, with a high amount of equipment for 1989. Central locking & 4 electric windows - pretty good for the 2nd model up in the Bluebird range. Although having said that - it had to go as the unassisted steering was making parking difficult.

The ironically named 'Premium' was the base spec. :)

Mines a 1.6 LS, other than the PAS it's a luxury car IMHO. Central Locking, leccy windows, leccy sunroof, tinted glass, comfy seats - it's lovely.

I'd be having Billys if I didn't like my beige interior so much...

Ah cool! 8) IIRC, doesn't the hatchback Bluebirds have reclining rear seats? :D

Posted

Yeah, I should have remembered the bonus spec seeing as the only car my Dad's had from brand new is a Bluebird 1.6LS... FAIL!

The lack of PAS was sometimes an issue. Especially after he drove a Seat Marbella hire car on holiday. Came back to the bluey and thought the front tyres had gone flat!

Reclining back seats you say?

Hmm... :D

Interesting, I didnt know that about the Bluebirds. Same as the early mk1 Rover 825i. Do the higher spec Bluebirds have elecric seats?

Posted

I think some have though this one doesn't unfortunately.

Posted

Want! Cannae believe this isn't shifting!

Posted

BARGAIN ALERT OR WHAT??????????? :D

Posted

if the engine doesn't warm up then it must be the thermostat. I can't think of any other way that can happen.

If the engine does warm up but the heater doesn't then it could be a few different things.

Posted

Tried the reclining rear seats today, what a blast it's well comfortable.

Anyhow have some more pictures. You'll see the only visible rust is next to fuck all...

£1116.97 for insurance for a Bluebird auto, yet I can get insured for well under £800 on my G-reg Cavalier SRi... eh?! Gonna have to pass this one up, buggers!

Posted

Hey, sort the Cavalier out and we'll do a deal, I bloody love those SRi models with an almost unreserved passion!

I've had an offer for the car (elsewhere) incidentally but at the price suggested it's just not worth selling it. Not greed it's just selling it cheap doesn't seem worthwhile as it's useful as a spare car for the next time the bloody Passat goes wrong. I also like to have two cars 'just in case' and because I enjoy driving something different.

Posted

I agree, don’t go selling it cheap for the sake of it, if you’ve got space to keep it.

I wish I’d never sold the first Bluebird I had for a mere £250, when it had new tyres and some work done on the brakes and was a very tidy example. Three months later we had a change around of cars and I needed a daily again...

Is that really the best quote you can get?! It seems very high, can't you shop around or won't your insurance company let you?.

I wonder if you can get a classic policy on it?.

Posted

There are classic policies out there that will take a 20+ year old car, some do 15+ I think.

Might be worth sounding out a local broker; 3 years ago I had two Vauxhalls that were twenty years of age. One was a Senator, and getting it on a classic policy was no problem. The other was a Belmont and I had a right old hassle finding a company to recognise it as a classic. Managed it in the end though, and gave my broker a good chuckle when I sent 'em some photos to get agreed value coverage.
