1992 Mazda 323f GTI Swapped for a German

I bought this about a month ago but I am not feeling the love. Maybe it is because I have gone from my carlsson to this. Looking for something else.

Very quick car as it was a rival for Mk2 Golf GTI (it is actually quicker than that!)

Car has 11 months MOT and tax until Nov. 79K with stacks of service history. Looks immaculate under the bonnet.

Spec

Manual 5 speed

PAS

Electric S/R & Windows

ABS

Central Locking

Factory Alloys

CD player

Brand new exhaust fitted

Few minor things to do to make the car mint (fabric on door cards have come unstuck, C/L can be temperamental, touch of rust on sunroof)

Located near heathrow.

Anyone got anything nice to swap?

I would also be interested in it's monetary value, as I highly doubt you'll want to swap it for a Mills-O-Matic Peugeot 205...

Posted

It owes me about £550 in total.

Forgot to mention that it is a 1.8 16v. The handling is pretty good as well. Really is a clean car. Someone has obviously looked after it. But it doesn't seem to click with me. Yes it is quick and comfy but it lacks something.

I think partly because it speed bump city round here so a low slung sports car isnt the greatest idea.

Have to say that Mills-o-matic 205 doesnt get me excited either :D Normal 205 perhaps..

Looks a cracker, wish I had some money to buy it. Would be ideal for rural roads and Marham trackdays...

We had one a few years ago, also a GT. Certainly no issues with its performance or handling, but not an ideal cruiser with low gearing, it was a bit small for family duties and the boot sill is high.

Does this one have a cat or ABS? I think they added them to later ones.

Posted

Has ABS. Not sure about the cat will have to look underneath.

Definitely geared for acceleration rather than cruising. :) Revs to almost 8K!

I am currently negotiating with my wife. May offer you a cash amount - unless you want a slightly run down Mercedes 230E?

That looks like worpleston Road Guildford?

If so surely a top road spot???

Top Spotting !

Not where I live but where I bought it from.

That's beautiful....Really miss my old 323f....Sadly I've nothing to swap for it....And no money! :(

Been offered a Audi 100 2.6E estate. Only real issue is that the exhaust is blowing where the two go into one. Is this £££ to fix? Anything else to look out for?

You are of course joking... it's an Audi, so obviously yes!

I was hoping it would be something that could be welded up :D or bodged!

Finally swapped it for this ..

First drives are postive ish ..

Pluses

GF likes it

It is estate

Wears its 170K well

Stacks of history including original invoice

Well screwed together

Waftiness and quietness in one

Opposite end of scale to the Mazda (Screaming teenager to posh gent)

Minus

Apparently it has 150 horses .. someone must have left the stable open

The 2.6E is an engine that I can see no point in

Got German stupid plates

Needs a good clean

Reminds me why I dont like Audi's , they are for people who dont want to get too excited ... a nice safe choice

Seats are awful

Estate is not really that big

Overall reminds me why the Volvo 850 estate is sooo much better. Much more torque, loads more room and a nice 5 cylinder growl. Tries to deliver Jag type quality but is left down by the engine. At least the 3.2 in the xj6's have get up and go. But boring is good at the moment

Its amazing the things people want to swap with you these days. I guess it'll see you well until you can find something better. It is a sensible car as you say. All you need to do really is sort the exhaust, replace the plates and whack on some Audi wheel trims if you find any.

Seems alot of people are getting offered bigger, better cars for theres, wasnt it Cavette who was offered a Volvo 850 Estate for his Astra? I was once offered a 98-S Rover Sterling in exchange for my 89' Rover 827Si, the 827Si was manual and had a Honda engine, the Sterling had a KV6 Engine, needless to say I declined the offer, the bloke actually only wanted my car because it had a towbar.

I noticed like me, you've got a 98' Nissan Micra, got any pics?

Posted

No Micra pics. I can get some though. I did ask the Missus if we had taken any and she said that doesnt every Micra look the same.

That would be great man, thanks. For some unknown reason, I am developing quite an enthusiasm for 98+ K11 Facelift Micra's (Particularly Blue ones) Not entirely sure why, but I own one which has been in the family since the late 90s when my mum bought it. I'm hoping to get it on the road soon.

What are your plans for the Audi then?

Posted

Have to say that I never thought that I would like the Micra but def got a soft spot for them. The 1.0 can be thrashed like a public schoolboy and it is quite fun. Handling is goodish :) Plus MPG is good..

It is a twister so PAS and Aircon but keep fit windows

Audi has had stupid Neverbeen stickers removed. PO thought it was rear wheel drive and a throaty V6 and was well disappointed by it.

Depending on how the hotel stuff goes next weekend it might be sold otherwise I will just tootle about it in after a good clean. Might even polish it to get some scratches out. Not worries about audi trims as I think the black wheels look ok with the colour.

I like these 100s, but maybe that's because I've never owned one. A friend had a twin-turbo V6 diesel a few years back and it was ludicrously speedy and remarkably comfortable at speed - think 70mph was about 1800rpm in sixth. However, after buying it to replace his Lancia Thema Turbo, my mate found it tediously dull and quickly got rid.

I think it's a fine car for the swap though. Nice to have extreme changes. I think your next car should be a Bond 875.

Not driven one of these Audis of this age so can really comment on their driving. I've been a passenger in one and it did seem quite boring, I do like the look of them, its just the interior, very durable, but characterless. On the other end of the scale I have driven an Audi S6, stupidly fast with all sorst of gadgetery and a button for the 'handbrake' which didnt inspire confidence.

I agree with the Micra handling, in fact an S-type driver once said to me that he admired the fact you could throw them around. I havent told my mother the how I'd ragged it before, though I suspect she suspects anyway.

This is a pic of my beloved:

(Before anyone asks, I took the numberplate numbers off the pic at my mums request when I uploaded this a long time ago)

Its an 'Ally' with no redeeming features whatsoever, no air-con, nothing electrical, not even central-locking, the doors were hung slightly lower since new, I changed only one set of hinges, need to get the others sorted.

I bought a few sets of proper Nissan Floormats for it and wacked in a Sony CD player. Its currently residing in a mates garage awaiting me to put it back on the road.
