Cholmondeley Castle Dump Bin

Yesterday I went to the Chomondeley Castle car show as a spur of the moment thing. It will probably be the last car show I do for a wee while.

I didn't get many photos, but the ones I did that were OK are reproduced here. Feel free to add yours.

I saw Retrogeezer out with his family, as well as what I think was Saabhappy's flatnose 900. Anyway, it was a nice way to round off several years of concentrated car buffery.

Time for a change, I think.

Jensens are lovely, and having seen some ropey ones you appreciate the work that's gone into making a good one.

Are they still going?

Tell you what Jon if you went to an empty phonebox with blacked out windows in the middle of the night your photographs would still be worth seeing.

You really should be taking pictures for a living.

I did take one of your car Si....sadly the two shades my C902 dislikes more than anything are red and gold, with no Dutchmen involved whatsoever. I'm also really grateful for the comments people make on here. Taking photos of old rammle is a cathartic process for me.

Anyway, have three more I bodged up:

I didn't mean to confuse by my 'Time for a change' comment. I won't clutter up the Grumpy thread with my personal drivel because I realise how difficult it must be for several members at this point in time. Without wishing to reel off another ineffectual platitude, hearing their plight puts my worries into perspective. I'll try and keep this brief.

I have more or less got the funding sorted for University. Today I got a letter back from the notoriously stubborn SFE, saying my appeal had been successful. They will pay for my tuition fees for Year 1 and 3. The second year is up to me, but that's what I'm entitled to under the rules which changed in 2009.

That bit is good. What isn't so great is the almighty shitstorm that ended up lodged in the fan blades at work. Long story short - they pushed me too far, I snapped, told a manager to ram it and handed my notice in. Amongst other things they had lied to me for nearly 6 months about part time hours being available. At this present juncture part time hours on temp to perm contracts are still being advertised online via Reed and Kelly's, and about 10 people a week are being taken on for various hours.

Blow-up aside, there is obviously something else (undisclosed) that is preventing me from having said part time hours. This boiled my blood ; what finished me off was the constant support work they expected me to do whilst my own work festered and piled up. This all became too much a couple of Wednesdays ago and was just the latest in a sorry litany of drudgery I have had to put up with from my employer. I never forgave for how they treated me over my gastroentroitis and food poisoning. I was sick of getting nowhere, constantly banging heads with management and upsetting others simply by turning up and sharing oxygen with them.

I'm not going to get an answer from them. They don't want to tell me why.

I had half a mind to hand my notice in anyway even before SFE got back to me - I had a loan ready but unsigned which would have paid for Year 1. When I stormed out on Wednesday I had a pile of inbound work the thickness of a phone directory, which (unencumbered with support work) I cleared two days later. We were already lagging with three people off and the other systems assistant on holiday, so being asked to support a 70 strong team picking their arses to no discernible effect, having had no sleep worrying about University with my own seniors kicking off about my dwindling input was about as welcome as a molehill in Holland.

Everything about the way it was done riled me. Without being told I was switched to inbound, so I had customers who had been on hold screaming psychotically at me as I logged on at 7.45 am. I asked what was happening, and got the brush off:

Manager: Well, you've got to support if you don't mind and it's not your place to question it. You do what I tell you to, you're not paid to think or argue. You do as you're told.

Me: I do fucking mind actually. This is fucking stupid. Our team's decimated and your lot are doing jack shit.

Manager: I beg your pardon? Are you questioning me?

Me: Why not. Do you mind if I walk out now? Would you care?

Manager : I think you've got a nerve, you jumped up -

Me: Don't you fucking speak another word. Don't you [points] fucking speak to me like that.

And with that, I slammed my headset down and stormed out, laughing hysterically. Yes, it was selfish. Yes, it made a scene, but I cannot convey how livid I was with the whole thing. I went to the car, sat down and before I knew it I was driving out of the car park, rabid axle tramp notwithstanding. Before I knew where I was I was in Handforth.

About an hour later I came to my senses and rang in sick.

I know I rant and rave a lot on here but that is my pressure valve. It actually takes a hell of a lot of abuse to make me want to walk away from something in disgust, but whaddayaknow, my arsehole employer managed it. What previously was an inkling of nerve to hand my notice in was galvanised at that very moment. They say the shock of realisation gives you the motivation to start afresh.

Anyway, I've got enough money for a couple of months, which should be enough time to get a part time job. I have some holidays left and I've told them my final date which they'll no doubt try and piss around with because HR are based in India. I've told them the 17th is the latest I can work because of registration.

I'm not going in again after that.

I found that grizzling about it online wasn't helping, so I switched off for a week and did other things. I have SORNed the Amazon because of the work it needs, and when I find a job I will have MM5 stitch the shagged front floorpan back together with some new panels (they're suprisingly cheap). The Celeste and Bilbos are long gone now, meaning I can swerve some of the debt which had been crippling me.

I probably won't be on here as much as I was once, but I will drop in every week or so, because this place still makes me laugh my arse off.

Bet you're sorry you asked now people, eh?

Good luck Johno! CIS did the same shit to me. Honestly, they asked if I had a medical condition that required me to got to the toilet* as often as I did (yes, they monitor every second of every day). That and the god awful fake enthusiasim they shove down your gullet every frickin day made me do the walkies too.

*granted I was just going for a walk as I hated the god awful job but obv. I never told them that....

It sounds like you done the best thing, Much longer or we could have seen a reenactment of the classic Michael Douglas film 'Falling Down' and no-one wants to get that upset over a burger.

I bet it feels like a heavy weight has been lifted of your shoulders though.

Good on you. Walking out is very liberating. And as long as the Uni stuff works out ok - and it sounds like you've got that sorted - then everything should be alright.
