My weekend has just filled up with an astonishing amount of mileage.

Initial plan was to potter down to Milton Keynes for the CXM Rally on Sat, then head across to the Microcar Rally at Malvern before sprinting home. That's about 280 miles if I stick to motorways, which I might not.

However, I've now agreed to help my best mate move house on Monday. She lives in Brum so I'll head there on Sunday, then down to Kent, then home. Total mileage now up to 450.

That's no problem. The BX did 600 miles in two days recently. It eats miles and sips fuel. No, the problem is that I was originally planning to take the CX - the one that misbehaves every now and then and drinks twice as much fuel as the BX.

So, what would you use? Proven trusty economical BX or supremely comfortable, quite likely to go wrong, fuel slurping CX that has a fixed row of seats in the back that get in the way?

Being biased I have to say BX.

Go pragmatic. Take the CX to MK, back home for the BX and do the rest of the trip in that.

Ah, there's an option. Could spend Saturday night in my own bed...

take the CX - they are invariably more reliable than they ever promise to be!

Link. Limb Bizkit covered that track. Secondary link - they also did an angst-ridden track called Break Stuff...

Even stevens at the moment. Should remember that I did 200 miles in a day in the CX when I bought it!

Are you with the AA/RAC or similar?

If so, try your luck with the CX and complete the journeys on the back of a flat bed if needs be. The forecast's pretty good for this weekend isn't it? So the waiting around won't be that bad.

You never know though, it might actually make it under its own steam (no pun intended).

Having said all that, if it was me in that position I'd say bollocks to those idiots on Autoshite and take the BX. Which would no doubt break down anyway.

CX definately. Mainly because I've not owned one of those.

I had a BX GTi which I rather liked, but whenever I was in it there was a little voice at the back of my head saying "Get a CX GTi Turbo, you wuss".

The little voice is still there, but it's like the Maserati BiTurbo one.

I've had a CX and a BX. I used to do 140 miles a day in the BX and it was superb. Comfort not an issue. The CX was comfy too, more so, but that didn't compensate for that gurgling feeling in my gut that a failure was imminent. BX!

CX, CX, CX, to MK, then I can have a go in it (never actually been in one, yet) :)

CX.A goodr un will loosen it up-make it more reliable...

Live a bit dangerously..

Ian - the CX will be a world of pain and unreliability.

I remember Tom waxing lyrical about restoring a "good" CX - the only problem is, such a thing DOES NOT EXIST.

Take the BX, you know it makes sense....

Dozy bint crashed her's though! (it miraculously changes from a Series 1 to a Series 2 at one point...)

I did take the CX and all has been well so far, apart from it twice refusing to start due to French wiring joy - a quick wire-wiggle and it's away. Was great to be part of a convoy of several CXs, XMs and a Xantia (oh, and a Visa!) though. The 6-wheel estate (towing an aeroplane caravan...) was there, making my estate look tiny...

CX mojo relit, now off to Malvern!

Sorry I didn't recognise you there - I did look out for you.

The convoy was a bit of a lashup though, wasn't it :) I was in the Xantia (Jim's Activa)

it made it to Malvern - about six cars away in the car park from my XM - looking not bad - I'd still do the swap, Ian.

Oh knackers. Sorry Mr Schmitt - completely forgot we were aiming to meet up! Bumped into some colleagues, then had to rapidly get some shots before it rained again and then had to get to Birmingham in time for an appearance on an internet radio station!

As for the CX, it was great! 500 miles done in three days - though I refuse to add up the fuel bills. Ate a shed load of my best mate's stuff for her house move and refused to develop any more issues other than the interior mirror coming off when I made the mistake of adjusting it...

Ian I could see from this thread that you've been busy - did the Dam Busters arrive yet?

I bought a seat (£90) for the messerschmitt and a final drive cog puller (£27) and that was my day out - I most wanted to buy the Renault 5 Turbo-ed TG500 with appropriate numberplate.
