I tried polishing the headlights with one of those kits but I'm useless and probably made it worse!

Is the daddy long legs still stuck in the headlight?

Also it's great to see the old bus getting some love. I actually spent quite a bit on it including the clutch, engine mount, windscreen, couple of oil changes and some other bits and bobs. It was a great an car during my time with it.

The ghost of Daddy Longlegs still exists in the drivers headlamp. Became apparent as I polished it.

I don't bother with kits - a rotary polisher and some light polish - these took 6 mins a side - 3 passes each.

You can tell the car has been pretty looked after - it drives really straight!

I did my usual trick of buying a cheap car, spending loads more than it's worth then getting bored and selling it!

It was me that broke the seatbelt warning display brushing some dust away as I'm an oaf.

I hope the 207 beat the A2 into submission!

How did I do then?

Firstly, some reflections:

The 207 rides better than the Rover

I prefer the HDI to the K series as it makes power sooner (but runs out of puff quickly)

The best launches seemed to be at about 1250rpm and just go through the clutch - so it grips and goes.

I was relatively consistent with times and max speed..

PXL_20260628_2137305312.jpg.c796052318f9019c0b030da7b548c78e.jpg

Absolute best was 18.398 at 74.57mph.

Worst was 18.753 at 74.35mph.

(Ignore the bolding - it's a quirk of the system deciding if you "won" or not) - all times on this sheet are for me.

**BORING BIT ALERT**

Much like Audi winning Le Mans by taking fewer pitstops, part of racing is MPGs🤣

The run through

PXL_20260628_1006350632.jpg.ba5f49ad93033b9b5334f036027194c9.jpg

After my drag racing runs PXL_20260628_1400198472.jpg.6a05dd6ea6180ad771a8c1d297c4e506.jpg

14 miles (inc the return road after each run), 24.7mpg and 6mph. You spend a lot of time sitting idle before going fast...

This is the drag racing + return leg only

PXL_20260628_1740150932.jpg.c21b3b678d83436d16750442567adf0c.jpg

And overall for the whole trip (to/from + racing)

PXL_20260628_1737583302.jpg.017bdaf83153067b3fe44d68346aae17.jpg

That's 3 gallons for a full day out and drag racing. At £1.619/L, that's £22.08 in fuel, 13.4p/mile

Looks like a fun day out! Remarkably impressive consistency with your results.

Would make for an interesting AS outing. 😂

Thanks! To be fair, running an 18 sec pass there is plenty time to get everything right🤣

We did have an autoshite drag day at Crail a long time ago...

To be fair, it feels a similar distance from here...

Especially when you have to go back in time when you enter Fife

You'd be good at bracket racing, I think it's called.

I remember in the dim and distant past of about 2012 or so, back in Barry Boys days, we'd go to a big drag meet in Shakespeare County (because a couple of the admins had a proper 70s Dodge Challenger dragster) but there were folk who did bracket racing. They'd guess their time then go down the 1/4 mile. There was a guy in an Astra 1.6 auto who would guess 20 seconds, and do it in 20 seconds every time. Thus, he did very well.

What's that?

It's payday and the hillclimb club have just opened entries for a hillclimb trackday on 12th July?

Don't mind if I fuckin do🤣

Best get some brakes ordered up then...

Good news!

After almost a week at the train station car park  dedicated overflow storage location, this tub fired right up.

Bad news - is pishing it down so not fitting brakes today

Good news, the sprint race is on for the F1.

In a changed to the advertised programme..

After the sprint race, the rain had abated.

In a rare fit of proactive behaviour, I decided to start the brakes...

Starting point was this . The 207 is weird. Caliper bolts to the bracket are 13mm (top) and 12mm(bottom) - same both sides, so must be a thing

PXL_20260704_140740354.jpg.061d8e7f2012f9c48109781d7a23acba.jpg

The caliper carrier is held on by two T55 torx bolts. Handily, these came undone with a bar, then came out easily on the ratchet.

PXL_20260704_140819557.jpg.3613e72ed69e4a60fc1e13a98bac47e5.jpg

The disc retaining screws came out easily (because of me being unusually prepared and having previously removed and greased them)

A quick check of old Vs new pads

PXL_20260704_141255324.jpg.f445043946ab75e97643945ef2c6f31e.jpg

And all bolted back up, ready to do the other side

PXL_20260704_143515625.jpg.8c9cdac92cf54f32dae971c529cfa8f3.jpg

The old disks were absolutely gubbed, big lips and obvious cracks forming. The pads were wonky half worn, so had been done relatively recently.

PXL_20260704_151502409.jpg.f199920be8b0e1a9ab16dfc05f43bc59.jpg

I took it out for a test drive/bedding in session on some quiet backroads. Brakes nice, straight and true. Got enough heat into them for the scent of friction material.

Pleased.

Think only other thing I may try to do is weld the back box hanger before the hillclimb
