Alexg Posted August 23, 2010 Author Posted August 23, 2010 Tayne that's a great idea, never heard of them before! Yes Lava Lamps are ace, I got a red and purple one. Has to go in the spare room though That £6 tip unit looks awesome, what a bargain. I think the B&O system is too er, good for what I'm wanting
scaryoldcortina Posted August 23, 2010 Posted August 23, 2010 wha? lava lamps, 70's silver front Hi-Fi? damn, I even have the telephone table (with the wipe clean melamine memo shelf...)CBA to take a new photo, lol
Marshall Posted August 23, 2010 Posted August 23, 2010 Back on topic (although non-motor related) this sort of shit pops up on ebay and floats my boat. I will be getting Virgin/Sky/other and if so I fancy buying a faulty retro stereo/vcr etc ripping out the inneres and hiding the sky box inside..... ?Well thats fookin ace! I have only today been playing some of my old tapes using my 80s Saisho radio cassette. I thoroughly enjoyed it including the crap sound quality. I have some decent hi-fi separates but was considering one of these for the old style casette deck and the fact that it records to SD. Yes, I know the quality will be shite but will it so the job of convertig th MP3 okay for vinyl and tape or should I look elsewhere. I would prefer everthing in one box for this purpose?:- About £100 I also have a cream coloured old style phone too! (With apologies if this is too O/T)
scaryoldcortina Posted August 23, 2010 Posted August 23, 2010 Connect your PC to the hi-fi like it's an aux tape deck. headphone out to play, mic to record. Then open any old sound recording app, and treat it like it IS a tape deck. Save as MP3, job done. No point buying the shite (because it WILL be shite)

Guest Posted August 23, 2010 Posted August 23, 2010 Just get a seperates tape deck from Cash Converters, a proper one will be about a tenner.

barrett Posted August 24, 2010 Posted August 24, 2010 Hey! Here's a thread I can get behind! Annoyingly i'm still without digital camera so I cannae take and snaps, but i've got a gorgeous 1950s bakelite 'phone (needs to be totally refurb'ed and converted to BT), and a 50s valve radio. I'm currently sitting at my massive Georgian desk. My prize piece is a fabulous early 70s armchair in black with an orange striped cushion... also have a G-Plan coffee table, a bright red 60s dressing-table chair that looks G-Plan, but probably isn't, and my wardrobe, both the item itself (30s deco) and the clothes it contains (70s off-duty copper). Here is a slightly horrific photo of my old flat, the day after our leaving party1. Eberhard Weber's 'Yellow Fields' vinyl, 19762. almost out of shot, our 60s screen for our regular slideshow evenings3. Brummy Dan, sitting on my old 80s beige 'leather' sofa, which has now gone4. 1969 Dutch print of an Aubrey Beardsley illustration. Now has pride-of-place in my bedroom5. the most comfortable chair in the world, officially. 1970s 'granny chair' we found in the street. I used to sleep in it sometimes as it was nicer than my bed. It's resting on a rather garish 70s rug which I think is now rolled up in my garage. Notice I am also sporting the classic brown slacks/beige shirt combo, and a look on my face straight out of an Argento film. And here's a rubbish photo of my ugly but useful 70s stereo/ record unit, demonstrating clearly that there isn't enough space in it for most of my records.A virtual prize for anyone that can name the 5 records that I can identify in this picture... *Anyone fretting about this off-topic thread, I think you'll find that my coffee mug features an image of a Citroen H-Van, which I feel redresses the balance somewhat
garethj Posted August 24, 2010 Posted August 24, 2010 I’ve got a 1940s phone which is brilliant to use – got some real weight to the handset and makes a telephone call an occasion. Back then, most calls were probably 3 or later 4 digits to dial, NOT GR8 4 2DAYS 11 DIGIT NUMBUZ
254575 Posted August 24, 2010 Posted August 24, 2010 i have a black version of the phone int he OP and i bought my mum a red one for christmas.
Guest Posted August 24, 2010 Posted August 24, 2010 I'm just about to set off to work in a tie which looks like the Autoshite colours, does that count?
nigel bickle Posted August 24, 2010 Posted August 24, 2010 Bakelite phone? Yep-several inc a live one Bakelite valve radios? Yep -several inc a nice Sobel I'm listening too now. BakeliteTV (with modern internals)? Yep -works well How sad am I?
STUNO Posted August 24, 2010 Posted August 24, 2010 This thread is the reason I love the autoshite site, if the nay-sayers stop to think its all about autoshite people and what drives THEM. Keep these threads up, they are good old fashioned FUN
Alexg Posted August 24, 2010 Author Posted August 24, 2010 Wow Check out this awesome videoshite - http://www.betainfoguide.net/Pix6.htm Betamax FTW!
Station Posted August 24, 2010 Posted August 24, 2010 Ah, GF is girlfriend. My warped brain read Grandfather until I re-read it more carefully and saw "other-half". "Me and the GF bought a new bed for us, etc" I've also got one of those GPO phones in black. The whirring and the ringing are what makes the time taken to ring anyone worth it.
AnthonyG Posted August 24, 2010 Posted August 24, 2010 I have too many old radios, TVs etc although I am cutting down a bit for my parents sake - most of it is stored at theirs! Have got a couple of GPO phones, and a wonderful German one from the 1980s, and a Belgian Thomson one from the 1950s, although it looks like it was designed in the 1930s!
scruff Posted August 24, 2010 Posted August 24, 2010 Top thread, almost as good as the "shite house spots" one a while ago.
Rusty Pelican Posted August 24, 2010 Posted August 24, 2010 Its great that old shite cars also equals old shite electricals , furniture and the like , I guess we all just hate modern break every 10 minuites unfixable crap .
trigger Posted August 24, 2010 Posted August 24, 2010 I feel a bit left out here, I don't really have anything that old here in my house, well apart from the house itself which was built in 1933. My dad's house on the other hand is rammed chock with old shite, everywhere.
Mr Lobster Posted August 24, 2010 Posted August 24, 2010 You're not alone trigger, although I do have an 18 year old Technics CD player though thats only here because its pretty good and still works.
Alexg Posted August 24, 2010 Author Posted August 24, 2010 Its great that old shite cars also equals old shite electricals , furniture and the likeQuestion is, how far does it go? Shite job? shite clothes? shite Mrs? shite life?

Lord Sterling Posted August 24, 2010 Posted August 24, 2010 Wow! Bloody hell. We used to have one of these phones when I was kid. I remember the metal ring-ring style chime. How much did you get it for? As if I ever get another line installed, I'll have to have one of these. The only oldish things I've got is a Kenwood stacker-system Stereo (Bought for £60 off my cus when I had money to burn. Now hardly ever used) and a Black Sony Trinitron TV (Originally the main TV. Now never used) Not really retro enough.
loserone Posted August 24, 2010 Posted August 24, 2010 Oh go on then.More shite than my shit car at least
CIH Posted August 24, 2010 Posted August 24, 2010 I have a lava lamp and, before moving out of the parents house, I had upteen obsolete games consoles. I'd really like to get an old mobile phone. Something like the matrix banana but even I need some of the jazz modern phones can do.
Angrydicky Posted August 24, 2010 Posted August 24, 2010 I've got one of those phones as well! Mine's in black and came from the same house as Keef's Wolseley Six. Also got loads of old valve radios, EKCO, Philips, etc. Only last week I was in a charity shop and I saw a proper old eighties "ghetto blaster", you know the ones they walk around with on their shoulders in old films. "£5, tape deck broken". Am I wrong to love things like this? Also got a fantastic, mid eighties Ferguson 14" in beige, I saved this from being thrown out, works perfectly but as I don't need it it sits in a corner of my room gathering dust. Looks GR8 though.
whitevanman Posted August 24, 2010 Posted August 24, 2010 Its great that old shite cars also equals old shite electricals , furniture and the likeQuestion is, how far does it go? Shite job? shite clothes? shite Mrs? shite life? TOOOOO close to the bone me thinks
