VWPowered Posted August 22, 2010 Posted August 22, 2010 any info on these, going to see a free one tomz all i know is its a 1991? what the interiors like, wasnt it next one down from the GSi?
Cavcraft Posted August 22, 2010 Posted August 22, 2010 Nice interior with a few toys. In fact some would say a nicer interior than the GSi's 'sporty' theme. Open the rear doors and if you can see the rear wheels where bodywork used to be it's time for some lengthy welding. Rear arches comically rot worthy even by Vauxhall standards and, from memory, stuff like doors, wings and sills can go quite easily. Nice ride in a sort of cheesey 'sold more paperclips than you' salesrep of the month' style but a bit slow. Anyhow it's free, bloody well get it then start telling us about it!
VWPowered Posted August 22, 2010 Author Posted August 22, 2010 did they have trip computers etc? cant find an interior shot
eddyramrod Posted August 22, 2010 Posted August 22, 2010 For that price, it doesn't matter what it's like. Save it or strip it, you're ahead whichever. And if you DO save it, that's another in the eye for Gordon The Gangster and his so-called Scrappage con.
Richard Posted August 22, 2010 Posted August 22, 2010 And if you DO save it, that's another in the eye for Gordon The Gangster and his so-called Scrappage con. Not in this case, VWP lives in France.
warren t claim Posted August 22, 2010 Posted August 22, 2010 And if you DO save it, that's another in the eye for Gordon The Gangster and his so-called Scrappage con. Not in this case, VWP lives in France.Won't it be badged as an Omega then?
eddyramrod Posted August 22, 2010 Posted August 22, 2010 Oops! Well I'm sure they have something similar, I mean anywhere there's a politician, there's a con, right? VWP, apologies for failing to locate you before ranting!
eddyramrod Posted August 22, 2010 Posted August 22, 2010 Yes, and even from all this distance away I'm thankful, but he should be punished at every possible opportunity for what he did, and if saving old cars will humiliate him at all, then let's do it!
Richard Posted August 22, 2010 Posted August 22, 2010 Won't it be badged as an Omega then?A lot of the cars VWP gets offered seem to be expat UK cars.
CreepingJesus Posted August 22, 2010 Posted August 22, 2010 They were the last run-ish models, and so have all the bells and whistles. 2-litre 4-pot's only up for 'stately progress'; 2.6 6-pot's a bit better, but still no rocket ship. I'd reckon a teflon 2.6 estate would be the one, personally. One other major thing to look for, is the state of the front 'chassis legs'. Yes, it was a monocoque, but they fitted reinforcers along the bottom of the inner wing. If these are gone, it'll be a dangerous heap, end of. They're a nightmare to replace (whole front end needs to come apart, engine/box out, etc.,), but thankfully, the oil mist seems to settle down there. That fact alone's probly saved a few of 'em. Great motors, just seeing one these days gives me a little grin. Sad, eh?
Pillock Posted August 22, 2010 Posted August 22, 2010 did they have trip computers etc? cant find an interior shotYeah, they had a trip comp in place of the big round clock in the big square plastic blanker. Just the standard Vauxhall one-computer-fits-all jobbie from the early 90s.
Station Posted August 22, 2010 Posted August 22, 2010 All the info you could need! http://www.autobahnstormers.org/eligibl ... on/cdx.asp These look better than 'our' Omega, even when the Omega was new.
VWPowered Posted August 23, 2010 Author Posted August 23, 2010 went to see it its not actually to bad tis 2.0 4 banger without air con takin' it away tomz
Cavcraft Posted August 23, 2010 Posted August 23, 2010 Result! Nice looking car that, will await more details with interest.
trigger Posted August 24, 2010 Posted August 24, 2010 I like that, It's in my favorite colour for a Carlton as well. WNR almost spells WINNER.
Alexg Posted August 24, 2010 Posted August 24, 2010 For a big fat £0, you can't go wrong. Nice one!
Mr_Bo11ox Posted August 24, 2010 Posted August 24, 2010 Great cars these, I am kicking myself for not buying that red one trigga found, i feel personally responsible for it ending up in the scrappy. Check the rear arches (inside the door aperture) for rust, if there is none, UR A WINNA!!!! Thats like winning £500 on a scratchcard almost. Theres quite likely to be shitloads of rust. MOAR PICS PLZ, is it a manual or a jelly leg special?
VWPowered Posted August 24, 2010 Author Posted August 24, 2010 autobox, no rust on the rear arches was ment to go get it today but just got home been on road three hours today, would be another 3 to go get car and its the daughters birthday so put off afew days
Mr_Bo11ox Posted August 24, 2010 Posted August 24, 2010 Jammy sod, I have got a major league lob on for a carlton at the moment.
trigger Posted August 24, 2010 Posted August 24, 2010 Great cars these, I am kicking myself for not buying that red one trigga found, i feel personally responsible for it ending up in the scrappy.Don't feel responsible, I could have bought it myself to save if i knew it was going to get scrapped. Shit happens i guess. You never know, VWP might be looking to move this one on quickly.
Mr_Bo11ox Posted August 25, 2010 Posted August 25, 2010 YO VWP, let us know how you get on with this.
