Collecting my winnings!

So today is the day I'm off to pick up my roffle win Audi, as I think some one at LNER made a mistake when loading the prices for today. £27 single from Ayrshire to Northampton! Couldn't even get that for next weekend or split ticketing! Wonder if the train was not selling and hoping it will be reasonably empty. Plus an unexpected day off yesterday seemed like the perfect way to make use of a long weekend 😁

My only slight worry is my first connection at Carlisle is only 10 minutes after my first train arrives so hoping for no delays there, or I am screwed!

I've not long woken up, deliberately went back to bed for a few hours as I'll be driving home overnight, so "breakfast" is this.

Cheapest of the cheap microwave burgers.

Off to Tesco shortly for provisions for the run and to check my new house hasn't been burgled πŸ™„ Local FB group said lots of places were, including a local pub, in the early hours of the morning 😬 My house is in the same town as the train station so not a massive detour anyway.

Good luck. If it helps, the Audi hasn't been started in 12 days, but it's fob is working and the lights all came on etc last night when I was putting the pile of paperwork together.

And the outside light stopped working so I'm going to have to use the Hyundai to light the Audi during handover.

First mode of transport for today - reliable old Volvo and bag of spares for human and car. Fleece blanket on board in case of waiting for recovery but hopefully that means I won't need it 😜

Next mode of transport.

And it is early! Already on and it is leaving bang on time 😁 Can chill out now til Carlisle. Quite a busy wee train tho.

Carlisle achieved and I am sitting by the platform. It's a couple of minutes late but that should be okay as I think I have about 20 mins to do my next change.

Pride coaches right enough. That's appropriate for me πŸ˜‰

Already at Penrith. Some one was sitting in my assigned seat but it's turned out okay coz that seat was not a table seat like I requested. Plenty of those empty tho, that hadn't been booked so I now do have a table and plug sockets to charge my phone and laptop.

I still haven't finished the training for my new side gig yet and thought 5 hours on a train would be a good opportunity to do that but I'm so excited I'm struggling to concentrate πŸ˜…Β

I do night shifts anyway so not really anything out of the ordinary for me. Although I have been warned the headlights are rubbish and if it does throw a wobbler then I may have a longer wait for recovery.

There may be an element of discoloured lenses causing lacklustre lighting but I'm also used to the pulsar-levels of illumination from a filthy modern so it could very well be satisfactory and I'm just conditioned.Β

Short delay getting into Preston due to other services late leaving our platform. Think I am still on track to make my last connection tho 🀞

When I used to drink, I used to be partial to a Rustler's breakfast muffin the next morning, a slab of ballast to settle the guts.

So no shade here, but can you imagine explaining to whoever was the original purchaser of this car (who, in my mind, dined at a Michelin star restaurant en route to collection) that 23 years later the new owner would fortify themselves with a microwave burger so lackluster that you couldn't even see the patty protruding from the bun?

We're so back.

Do you reckon they'd be even more horrified knowing I want a chippie tea on the way home, and a Starbucks if I can find one open?Β πŸ˜†Β Agree the Rustlers breakfast muffins are yum. Farmfoods sell them cheap if you're lookingΒ πŸ˜‰

We're making an unexpected, unscheduled stop at Stafford because some one has managed to get on the wrong train with all the delays earlier. Hopefully this doesn't hold us up too much.

Wow, watching this will be like staying up for the James Whale radio show when I was a kid. Good luck!

The connection at MK is going to be very tight, if possible at all. It may be that I'm picking up from MK instead!Β

@Flat4's train is due in to MK as the Northampton train from London arrives - same minute according to NationalRail.

It's going to be reaallllly close.

I think we're saved by the fact the train heading through Northampton from London is two minutes late.Β

Missed it πŸ˜• Got in at 21.11, my connection left at 21.12. I was looking for it on Platform 3 but they'd moved it to Platform 5. Fortunately the next one appears to be on time and I'm currently on the correct platform, unless they change it again.
