Thanks again everyone, This goes to prove that Autoshite is the most friendliest forum on the web!

I've not been long back from A+E myself, Started to get really sore so thought to be best to get checked out, 2 1/2 hours it took me!, I had some nutty woman one side of me that keep shouting help and then cut her arm open and the other side a 16 year old that had drunk to much and kept being sick :?

One thing the wife did say is that the Ibiza in front never even braked as her lights didn't come on before she hit the 308, I think personally she never saw the first car brake and just ploughed into her and there was nothing that me or the car behind could have done.

And to top it off i will now properly have to get a train to collect the car tomorrow, with a stiff neck as i can't find anyone able to get it for me

Make sure you make that complaint as to leave you all stuck there like that is just plain dangerous.

And the operator too, seeing as they record all the calls needs tearing a new one, disgraceful...

Posted

I will do, the nurse tonight even said i should complain, To think that to be leave for 45 minutes in the fast lane on one of Britain's busiest motorways i awful then to find that the services that do turn up wasn't even coming to you, The black highways Disco was coming back from a shout and wasn't covering that county and the paramedic that turned up was a off duty doctor on the way to a party with his girlfriend!

Where are you picking "Marie" the Celeste up from?

Posted

Sorry to hear that. Glad that you are OK. If you can't get the car today, I could run you up there next weekend, or today if you could let me know by 10 am.

Posted

Does seem very odd that you were "abandoned" by the services. Seems that whenever on the motorway these days there's a Womble-4x4 cruising around waiting for a situation just like yours. Was there a massive accident keeping them all busy somewhere else I wonder?

Stark contrast to the crash I witnessed (and could easily have been involved in) on the M25 a few weeks back, where an Ambulance was 2 cars behind and there was a fire engine only a few vehicles behind that!

Thank you oldford that's a very kind offer, i've sent you a pm, i'll most likely end up getting a train though.

My neck is a bit sore today! It feels very bruised and my wife's the same, the has a blood bruise on her hip as well from the seat belt.

Albert - The beast is in Stapleford on the outskirts of Nottingham.

Bummer. Nasty. Close to the best possible outcome though, really.

Look after that stiffneck -it could be a right earner.

Sorry to read about this Mike when it should have been a great day out for you, but as others have said glad you were all OK.

Is the Celeste definite then? I look forward to seeing that, perhaps we can meet up soon as I'll have some spare mag's.

I'm hoping it will cover my over draft Nigel!, I think some of your luck is rubbing off on me!

I'm surprised by the apparent lack of of real damage on the other cars compared to mine though.

This is the Avensis that hit me, The wing has moved but it doesn't all that bad, though it looked as if the front cross member had pushed back.

Posted Image

This is the young girls car i hit, What you can't see is her rear wheels are touching the front of the wheel arch and the rear 1/4 has popped out. It must of been a shock for the young lads in the back. Notice Passat blood on highway

Posted Image

This is the front, again, only slight damage.

Posted Image

There's hardly any damage to the 308, Looking at these photos you can tell the 308 and Ibiza had a slight coming together but the Ibiza stop instantly and sadly i got sandwiched between.

I just hope the insurance company won't mess me around and be able to tell i wasn't to blame.

Yes it is, Oldford has very kindly offered to run me up to Stapleford to collect it this morning, Seeing that I've never met him before the bloke is a real legend! :P

Jeez, what a story... glad you're relatively okay, hope you're neck gets better soon.

Posted

Getting that lovely Celeste should cheer you up, Trig.

Posted

Thats the thing with modern cars - damage looks hardly anything but its often far worse than it at first appears.

Posted

Trigger, pleased to hear you are ok...as for the insurance you will be at fault for hitting the Seat, though the Avensis insurance will cover your car  thats the way of it I am afraid

Posted

Hey Trig, this is a terrible story! Main thing is that you and Mrs T are ok. Hope that you are not too set back with your injuries and that the insurance do what they're supposed to.

Keep thinking about that Celeste - it looks lovely 8)

Well the story gets worse.

oldford aka John the legend was very kind enough to run me up to Stapleford in his totally mint H reg Sierra 1.8 LX today.

Sadly once arriving to look at the Celeste it didn't look quite look as nice as it did in the photos and in the description, It needed a hell of a lot of work.

Both rear 1/4's are covered in lots of very big scabs which have been covered up with badly matched paint, the floor and sills were freshly tarred up and the drivers door is rotten and many other problems.

We both decided that buying it would have only made my weekend even worse so left empty handed.

So it's been a great weekend all round really, it's cost me a lot of money and my car and i all i have left to show for it is a bad neck and a cripped wife.

Posted

Bet you'll be glad when this weekend is over with :(

Can only echo what everyone else has said, glad you are both ok if not unscathed, for a long time I honestly thought that if I drove within the speed limit, kept my distance and paid attention I was 100% invincible, getting side swiped by an uninsured prick in an astra gte soon convinced me otherwise, my octavia tdi (which ran perfectly and was immaculate) was written off because it had 188k on the clock so the loss adjustor (I was fully comp then) valued it at £650, less my excess I got 400

Learnt a valuable lesson though, we don't have to be acting like a twunt to collide with one.

Glad you're not dead, trigger

Good luck dealing with the insurance, the payout for mine took a couple of weeks and that's generally considered to be pretty fast. Apparently there was some question if it would be written off, this is after a car crossed the central reservation and hit me - closing speed of around 120mph and I barrel rolled down the A10

Any accident you walk away from is a good accident, so keep your pecker up.

Don't get desperate to buy just anything now you're car-less. If necessary buy a £300 snotter to keep you mobile until you find the right car.

Take care, mate

It was good to meet the Autoshite legend Trigger today. If you had taken me up on my offer to let you out on the Orwell bridge, I wouldn't have stopped (honest!).

There is a car out there for you, so don't be too disappointed, concentrate on getting both of you well.

I've added the photos that you took on my camera to your stonking spots thread, though the one of an old Ford going fast may be a little hard to believe, especially the way the needle bounces around when it gets to 70. :?

When my Onion was rear-ended by a Clio in 2003 Churchill paid out on the car pretty quick; couple of weeks and I was able to replace the awful Corsa rental with a 2.0i MG Maestro, 15 years old, 27,000 miles. Wish I still had that one... Because of the whiplash, and the early-onset arthritis it forced on me, I couldn't drive a truck for months, which is a shame as that was my job! It was two weeks before I could walk to the chippy in one hit. So we were into injury claim, trips to various insurance-nominated doctors, NHS physio, acupunture, all of that. Fortunately 03 was a good summer, so as soon as I could walk, I did, at first for essentials, then for a couple of hours for pleasure. I was eventually compensated for the injury and loss of earnings, but it came in dribs and drabs, unlike the bills, and was spread over two years, also unlike the bills, which simply never stopped. So make sure you don't leave these injuries untreated, and make sure you get what you deserve!

I'm still in shock the old CVH made it over 100mph!, I could almost hear those 90 horses crying for mercy!

Thanks you again for all your help today, It's also handy having a mot tester looking over a car for you!

And thanks Gareth, I'll see if I'm entitled to a hire car tomorrow, if not I'll have to get myself a old snotter for a little while, I just hope that i can get my private plate back of my Passat as I only got as a 30th birthday present a few months ago from my family.

Bad news, I'm afraid. It's 88 now, I had to shoot Dobbin and Prancer when I got back home. :(

Don't worry about the Celeste Trigger, they are notoriously rot-prone and the mechanical side of things always outlasts the bodywork. A shame, but if you really want one (and I do recommend it) a good one will come up eventually. It's a shame my grandparents friend's one seems to have disappeared from the radar - that was in the same colour but had only done 18,000 miles and was immaculate. The seats were all black as well which looks nicer than the Nottingham one I think, plus it was the 2 litre GT version. Good luck!

Glad you're ok mate, and hope it gets sorted soon. Saved me a trip to see it I suspect...:-/

A 2.0 GT is rare indeed. There is/was one lurking near to me - used to service it as a apprentice at the local Colt dealer. Fairly sure it had the sport pack on it as well...

I had something rarer - a 1600 GSR. However, if you thought that blue one looked rough, mine would have terrified you.

It's gone to a Mitsubishi specialist in Darlington to be restored, eventually. A bit gutted I had to sell, but it was for the best.

I had a 1600 celeste as a daily for a while in Manchester a few years ago, it looked the part but TBH was pretty shit to drive. Onward and downwards Trigsbury!

Posted

Pleased to see that you all came out of it essentially intact although there may be some discomfort and pain along the way. Hopefully there will be a silver lining beyond having actually survived a harrowing experience.

Shame about the Celest but as the guys rightly say, there is always something else around the corner.

The Celeste is probably a bit like my Galant to drive, does it feel like a million turns lock-to-lock? That's part of the fun!

Well, ST and GSR 1600 were fairly common - the dealer I worked at was one of the 1st in the country, so loads of Mk1 Lancers, Celestes,Cordias and Tredias knocking around. Hardly see one these days - most died in the 90's. We even had a Grand National gold one locally, now that IS rare :-)
