Shitters MPG Thread

Filled up the Clio 1.2 this morning and brimmed it with the usual 3 clicks. Over 500 miles it averaged 53.1 mpg of mainly 20 to 70 mile journeys on mainly motorways and a little bit of manoeuvring in the driveway. This is a typical value for the car.

E300 TD gets mid-30s, but is happy on waste veg oil.  If I do a cost comparison of the Veg versus Diesel, it's an equivalent of about 150mpg

C250 TD gets nearly 40mpg.  Not easy to run on Veg due to the fuel tank design, but it does get a bit of WMO mixed in with the fuel every now and then.

Citroen C6 appears to get well over 40mpg on a long motorway run, and 20mpg around town.  It's bloody heavy.

Good: my S13 200SX over here. It has a bigger turbo and injectors, plus a Nistune in the ECU making 326hp. At 70mph it manages 34mpg, but I got stuck doing 50mph once which reduced that to 35mpg.

Bad: in Australia I had a 1982 Toyota Hilux 4wd with a 350 Chev in it. The best I ever managed was about 12mpg, but if you got a bit excited that would go to 9mpg.

Bonus extra-bad: a friend bought a 60 Series Land Cruiser, also with a 350 Chev. This did 8mpg. He understandably sold it.

That is really impressive

The wifes Alhambra is essentially the same platform and engine but only returns about 35 to 39MPG  - Ive had it up to the early 40's on a long run.
I wonder if its because its a heavy old thing with the aerodynamics of a Yorkshire Outdoor Lavatory?

I'm surprised there's that much difference, the Passat is a Bluemotion, not sure if that really means owt though.

A few months ago I did a 550 mile run, Derby to Glasgow and return this was the mpgees.

I was surprised it was so good, added bonus of £35 a year tax due to ze Germans telling porkies on the emissions front too.

We've just driven the nu_Mrs Grogee's Captur Hybrid to Devon.

The traffic on M5 south was bloody awful, not just usual Friday nonsense but apparently there were two really bad crashes around Jct 29/28 last night that they were still mopping up.

But the hybrid is very well suited to the speed up/slow down busy motorway dance, recovering energy from the slow downs to use on the speed ups.

I had it on Eco, I don't know if that really makes a difference but it's claiming 64mpg according to the trip, no doubt it's a bit optimistic but that's decent for a pez car which is effectively medium sized. Particularly when you factor in the hilly bits near @HMC land.

It was also very pleasant to drive - quiet, plenty quick enough and comfortable seats/ride.

Moderns! Who'd 'av 'em?

The ST170 - presumably not much. It's going to Coventry tomorrow so I'll do some basic maths and see what I can eke out then.

You know, I reckon it might be able to get 40 on a run...
