Bottling it on Ebay, and Leyland Sherpa's question

There's a decent sounding mk2 Transit camper in classic car weekly today, a 1979 model, 2.0 pinto autosleeper, years mot, long tax and awning and spares, 82k for £1650 in Bracknell. I've got the number for it though i suspect It's likely sold by now.

There's a Pilot van for sale in the next village to me, 800 euros. How long would it take to transfer all the interior fittings into the newer shell? Although, if I had a choice of old vans, a 2.3 CF would be WAAAAAAAAY up at the top of the list, far out of sight of any other contender! And it wouldn't matter a whit what the purpose might be, any reason to buy an old van is a good reason to have a CF. Has to be petrol though, and preferably 2.3.

I did have my eye on that Dodge/ Commer Glendale on Ebay, but the guy sold it privately for £1200, which surprised me, and I was a bit sad about that as i've kind of set my heart on one, but i've joined the Commer forum, who are a great bunch, and pretty mad, bit like here really. :D

I have seen another CF that looks really good, but i'm thinking about waiting for the right thing, and getting more cash together then I can hopefully pick and choose a bit more, and maybe get a chance at something like this.

Here you go, Good luck

This is what the seller said to me about it

"The bodywork / rusty bits are above the windscreen, both rear corners have been filled but rust breaking through, front arches the same, it had a full respray about 2 years ago but looks like the prep in these areas was poor. The rest of the van is pretty good for it's age, rear bumpers could really do with replacing, needs a general tune up, the steering is not a 100% but since we got the re-con steering box it's a load better. it has a fold away table which is behind one of the side cushions and clips in with a third foot between the driver and passenger seat. We are in a village just outside Camborne in Cornwall. approx 60 miles the other side of Plymouth, The van looks presentable from a few feet away, it is 35 years old

Cheers Sam"

thanks Rossco I found it as well and saw your question. It is in good nick but I think a lot of this is cosmetic, they have had the jif out and done a good job of presenting it - I suspect it might be slightly overpriced for a Cornish based one! They have clearly done a lot of work.

If I went for it i wouldn't be able to collect till mid August anyway

Substantial things these old Sherpas though - and the neat factor on this one means the doris might like it rather than a shed.

I'm tempted by this:

http://cgi.ebay.co.uk/ws/eBayISAPI.dll? ... 0471187441

the information is minimal but I don't think it will make big money because of that - the inside looks messy rather than trashed and the £500 saving between the two buys a lot of Jif

mind you the B class engine, whilst slow, is original and straightforward

That last bugger has a Di fitted

Mine never had overdrive and was only good for cruising at about 65mph really, if that.

PS. If 'Bernard' happens to come on the market in a couple of months time feel free to give me a prod, I might well be interested.

Nowt wrong with DIs, bear in mind the LDV had em.

This early 1983 Renault Traffic is on carsandclassic for only £500 but it's needs TLC for a mot and is tiny 1400cc.

The sides on that look well ropey, reckon it's a potential minefield that one.

When we get back I will be looking to move it on. I am sure we can do a good price on it

:D

Sounds interesting Moog, would you have any pics at all ?, what reg is it ?.

I wanted to try to get an early one if possible, but it really comes down to condition.

Trigger,

This was the Sherpa I was looking at, and i'm just waiting for an email back, although with what Cavette/ Billy has just said, and the fact it has an 1800 in it, I will think very carefully.

That CF is nice though, and very well bought by that couple you met.

I have also found a '64 CA, in primer basically with little between it and an MOT for about £1100 Neg., and a '68 Commer PB that needs some work, so I have a few options, but it was just that the one I "FAILED" on was in nice nick and an early '73.

well I bit the bullet and bought this Sherpa - the Cornish one - I had a long chat with the owners today on the phone and the vendors hubby is an MOT tester and went into great detail about the work done and still need to be done. I collect in a couple of weeks - wife will be pleased (until she drives it!). That steering box will need looking at though as still a bit loose but I seem to recall Sherpas had pisspoor steering in the first place.

Interestingly enough the Sherpa in Newcastle, the one I posted the link to I pulled out of the bidding race as the vendor was doing the most unsubtle shill bidding I have ever seen - I informed him I was making a bid when discussing collection - next thing you know a brand new ebayer with no buying history and no bidding history starts to make incremental bids on the item all yesterday afternoon - I spotted it around 1100pm and reported it to ebay. This afternoon I noticed it had been pushed up again so I got fed up and called ebay who said it looked very fishy and they retracted my bid. Waiting for the tirade of abuse I am no doubt about to get from the vendor.

Anyway - down to Cornwall mid month to collect the new one!

will report when done so

Been tootling about in Bernard today as went to get some shelving from Makro. At 60 on the motorway the engine is doing 2400rpms . .great for fuel saving. Plus being the 2.3 loads of torque .. :D
