I have a lot of retro electronic stuff, mainly radios/TVs, and some audio stuff. Most given to me free or purchased at very little cost at local house-clearance auctions. 1960's transistor radios I buy off Ebay when I feel like it. Now I am looking at concentrating on a few things and trying to create some space. Lots of stuff to go, I'm afraid, but not to the tip unless it is absolutely hopeless!

I believe I have an old Raleigh RSW 20 bike (pedalshite?) that I was given, somewhere in the garage, but it lies buried under several boxes of things that may come in useful one day, so unfortunately I am unable to find it, let alone post a photo :(

Sorry to drag up and old thread but I just picked up a worthy piece of gadgetry shite. Check this beauty out! £10 from the charity shop buys a fully working Ferguson Videostar 3V32. Anyone know how old this thing is? I'm guessing mid 80's maybe? It's seriously heavy..like about four times the weight of a modern one and huge too, yet very quiet in operation. It's in pretty much perfect condition with only the battery compartment lid missing from the remote. Now I just need a colour telly of similar vintage to go with it 8)

That Fergy video would be from about 1982. They were built to last then (many were rented rather than sold, and were expected to work for at least 10 years) and ex-engineers say they were excellent machines.Belt/service kits are still available if you can do any electrical stuff yourself.Old working 70s/80s Tvs are often available for free in the wanted/offered section of this site, but you will have to register. http://www.vintage-radio.net/I have a B&0 20" you can have for £15 , but it will have to be collected from West Wales :D !

Wowser. My folks had that Fergie VHS, first one we had. Rented from 'DER' I think it arrived in 1985 or 86, and lasted well into the 90's. I think the first vid we watched on it was DARRYL.

They built it to last back then - my folks' Goodmans front-loader (complete with "FRONT LOADING SYSTEM" emblazoned on the cassette flap) from 1986 still works!

That VHS takes me back. My folks bought a similar -looking JVC number in about 1983 an it lasted till 1996! The next one only lasted a few short years though  They also had a white-coloured Sony Trinitron TV from about 1975 that lasted well over 25 years!!

I still have the Pioneer stereo I had at Uni in the '70s, and it still sounds superb!! Plus my camera history from Box Browni to Nikon F then digital came along!

Wow! Brings back memories, we had one with the remote on a wire!!

My dad then thought it was a good idea to ditch VHS format and buy a Betamax video recorder as this would be the next big thing....

He also bought a minidisc player as well :roll:

I've got an MD player system which I bought new about ten years ago for a ludicrous sum of money if I recall. CD, MD and a cassette player in one! I suspect it is certain future shite. I mean... just look at it.... classy or what...

Wouldn't happen to have the Opel Ascona or Audi Quattro in the same "series", would you? Or the Toyota Hilux with 3-speed transmission...now there was a quality R/C product. Expensive then and probably stratospheric now. I always wanted the Group B Celica they produced in 1/12th scale at the end of the '80s.

Russian Zenit 11, probably from the early '80s, slightly less shite now that it has a half-decent wide-angle lens on it instead of the soft, extremely narrow-angle Helios lens it used to have. It's indestructible and fully mechanical (apart from the Selenium cell light meter).

Blitz Hexi 120 camera from a charity shop, I still haven't processed the first roll of film I put through it, results will be pretty shonky I suspect, it was lovingly crafted from Bakelite in West Germany in the '50s. I love the look and feel of it, especially the 'spiral' lens

I would love to acquire this get-up for it

You're right, the Quattro and Ascona used the same chassis, was it the Frog buggy?

I'd love the Hilux, or even the Blazer. Think it also had free wheeling front hubs but just the cost of the 4 channel remote system was prohibitive when I was saving my pocket money as a 12 year old.

I also have a soft spot for the Lambo LM002 thing they did. According to google my memory is playing up and it was a Cheetah

I found this Camera shite in a Charity shop. Don't know a lot about it other that it's a Durst 66 and it was made in Italy. It's got an all metal body so somewhat weighty...

The original Frog, lancia 037 and brat shared the same chassis, the Ascona and Quattro shared a different one. The 'Brat' chassis was amazingly versatile having been used on the later blackfoot (ford ranger) and monster beetle with minor chassis modifications. The Brat has been re-released (along with quite a few buggies), but with a resin body instead of the fragile plastic type ones.My first car was a rough rider with a ford ranger body - no diff, metal chassis, fully waterproof and a poxy 380 motor. I'd kill to get it back. I was shrewd enough to go round to my mates when we turned 16/17 and asked if they wanted to sell their Tamiya cars - my folks couldn't justify spending £150 odd quid on me in the mid 80's. I did ok in the end, I picked up a Toyota celica rally car (GR5), a pajero that did wheelies, a lunchbox, monster beetle, several brats, frogs and boomerangs. I've picked up a TT01 BMW E30, FWD original mini and QD Scooby more recently. All are fun, but everytime I take them out I attract too much attention.

I had a Grasshopper II as my first one, at the age of 11. Took me and dad all of Xmas Day to build it. Fantastic fun.The "novelty" of a 380 motor soon wore off though, and after 18 months I bought a Hirobo Toyota Celica GT4. Big mistake - Hirobo were a name in R/C aircraft but their first car kits were shite. Awful. Ended up slinging most of it in the bin (as it broke quite spectacularly) and went back to Tamiya in the shape of a Thunderdragon. Then gave up R/C for good; had a couple of forays since in the shape of a Tamiya Mini (good fun), Tamiya BMW Z3 (also good fun), and a couple of Kyosho Mini-Zs (1/28th scale, great for chasing the cat around if you have wooden floors).Hopefully if Welfare Jnr is male I can get back into it again. Got some sections of Scalextric track in the loft as well...shame I sold all my old cars (mainly 70s and 80s ones - Mk1 Escort, BMW CSL, Rover SD1, TR7 etc) but there's plenty on eBay!

I've just given my 35mm stuff to a girl doing a photography course - Pentax K1000 - a breezeblock with a lens

Posted

I still use my Canon AE1 camera it dates from the late 70's and by all accounts as good as my current digital canon eos camera. I'm a big fan of those lomos things too!

Was it just me that had the Kodak B1 (clone of a Brownie) that came free after eating 3 boxes of Weetabix?

I did have a quattro a while back but the parts are very expensive, they dont run very well but agree great looking cars if out of scale slightly

And yes I have a Mountaineer 3 speed >>> sorry for poor quality pics these are stashed all over the house. And what i'm showing here is only about 50% of my collection !!!!!!!!!!!!

Awesome Tamiya kit there. That Lambo...is that a "new" Tamtech model, like the RSR Porsche? Got any original Tamtech, the 1/24 stuff?I've never seen that later Pajero before. You can't beat Tamiya for build quality and detail of the bodyshells - sure, they aren't suited for racing, but so what? I doubt I'd get another "biggun" anyway, given that supermarkets open on a Sunday now...the deserted carparks used to be ideal for racing them around in the dim, dark days when they were closed on the Sabbath

I've got a tamtech Porsche 959 - currently sporting RA23 toyota celica body. I seem to recall they were released in '87/'88 - and used toughed versions of some of their existing 1/24 kit range. Quite expensive as I recall, but Beatties in Reading (RIP) had loads for sale for £50.00 ready to run just prior to their shutdown. Incredibly fast, but best used on ultra smooth floors....

Will have a go,

1. Mrs thinks this is a Holiday buggy (*but not blue like mine she added....)

2. Was this the RC10 rival 2wd thing? Buggered if I can remember - Fox?

3. Hotshot 4wd!!!

4. Frog/Brat chassis of some sort

5. ?

I'm not jealous really - I still have my Grasshopper, Mudblaster, and a while back I bough the lovely little Honda SS600. My brotherinlaw raced and worked in radio-active in there heyday too.

The top one is an XR311 (kit number 4 ) I dont have a Holiday buggy but have it's twin the Sand Rover..

next is a Marui Hunter (very very rare new in box kit & yes I do have an RC10 as well !!!)

next - your right - it's a Hotshot

then a Subaru Brat

and finally an original Lancia Rally

Post a pick up of your Mudblaster, I must admit that is one of my favourites. At the last count i have 5 inc a brand new built, brand new kit and 3 runners !!!

No i've no early Tamtech stuff and yes that Lambo is a recent release, the body detail is superb. I'll build it when I get time. And yes it's the same chassis as the RSR Porsche. The Pajero has just been reissued, it's a great chassis for off road :-) and it's not too dear.

You'd be surprised how many places there are to run these, I prefer the off road stuff though.
