Very nice! Not seen one of these in some time.

Back when I worked in the garage we had a regular customer with an L reg one, also in white. It was always a solid car but it was always dirty. One day it came in for service & MOT (which it breezed) so I cracked into the service. Afterwords I looked at it and thought ‘you know what, this thing deserves better’ so I took it out of the workshop and gave it a wash and valeted the inside!!

The owner couldn’t believe it when he came to collect it! He said he bought it just as a run around and wasn’t overly bothered about it so just left it but he couldn’t believe how well it came up after a good clean up.
A few days later I had a letter waiting for me as I came into work. From the owner, just saying how nice it was to drop off his car for a normal job only to come pick it up and find someone had gone the extra mile and done so much they didn’t have to do. I’ve still got that letter somewhere!

Anyway, look after yours. It’s quite possibly the only car you’d need in a lifetime if you can stop it rusting.

Haynes book of dark magic has arrived, so I'm running out of excuses to avoid working on this old heap.

Put the disc lock on maybe twice and I'm already fully sick of it. Such a faff it's like a humiliation ritual.

I feel the same about my Clutch Claw but you can guarantee the one time you don't bother is the one time it gets lifted.....

If it cheers you up, here's a special "period style" photo I took today :)

Yes. I've had to keep covered up as I'm plenty sun burnt already.

The Carina and my Dacia have finally met. Apparently they're not talking to one another, but at least they're not fighting.

Ha, this reminds me of when we introduced a kitten into our house which already had two brother cats...

I use to LARP as a Carina E licker on line for fun but this guy is something else. There's a whole yard of time expired Carinas, Camrys, Corollas and Avensis.

I tried to buy that gold one earlier in the year but was told it was sold. Buyer must have backed out.

How did you find the guy? Affable?

Yeah he was friendly a chap.

Meantime, I'm compiling something of a "to-do" list;

  • Service (Filters, oil, plugs, maybe leads)
  • Cambelt, including aux belts, water pump and coolant change
  • Address advisories for knackered CV boot and engine oil leak
  • Tyres
  • Eventually, "paint" and undersealing.

In that order in case I screw something up (somewhat likely) and it's getting spendy. Just the tyres are £75+vat each for middling Falkens, and it may have to be four as I'm fairly sure one of the "good" fronts has a slow puncture. I'll be buying tools too, such as a jack and stands.

I had a set of Falkens fitted to my estate. They're good but look oddly skinny on the wheels.

Ideally I wanted to go for Uniroyals, but they were on longer delivery.

I wonderd about the hubs as I was pretty sure the BTCC had switched to center locks after '92.

Everyone else had switched long before that, centre locks were the norm from the mid 80s but weirdly the 91/92 Rouse Toyotas stayed with 4 stud. Andy was (is) a clever chap so must have had his reasons
