Not mine, this is copied from another forum.

'A friend of mine is selling a 1987 Maestro 1.3L with 57,000 on the clock. It is metallic blue with a mint blue interior.

I have been around to look at the car today. It is a 1987 model, the inside is excellent, the engine bay is really clean and the car looks very nice, it has obviously been well looked after. It is a genuine 2 owner car, the last owner being an old boy who is now in a home.

The points needing doing are, ( as far as I could see)

Leaking master cylinder.

Rust to drivers door.

Rust to nearside wheel arch

Some minor rust to sills behind front wheel

Starter motor not engaging, will start on tow/bump.

The car has 7 DAYS ONLY TO FIND A NEW OWNER OR IT WILL END UP AS A WASHING MACHINE OR FRIDGE if a new owner has not removed it by 7 days from todays date it goes to the scrap yard !!!!!!

If you want to contact the guy who has it now he is Richard Tidbury Tel 01635 826111 or 07770387964.'

Someone save it please! Located in Thatcham Berkshire.'

I'd have it myself but no space, anyone? I'm trying to get some pictures off him but apparently the emails keep bouncing back, so here's one picture.

Did you stick it on RR and MacDroitwich?

Posted

Done on MacD. RR requires more details for a post in the for sale section (fair enough).

COME ON! Someone rescue this. Torsten, since the Escort situation is looking doubtful, take this opportunity and get a proper piece of CLASS.

Is it worth informing Keith Adams of AR-Online?

Great Idea guys but sadly Maestros (and Montegos), as much as i like to see them about, are one of the car's I'd never own unless it was a very cheap Turbo!, I remember working on them 10-15 years ago doing wheelarches repairs and hated the way they drove back then.

Everytime you would go over a speed bump the headlining would full on my head and they have a strange angled gear lever.

Still, I hope someone saves this one from death.

Wheelarches are no worse than most cars of that age, keep them free of mud and they'll last forever. As usual, the problem is due to neglect.

Headlinings are a bit of a problem as the glue that holds them degrades with age, I'm in the process of replacing mine as the cloth (sadly mint) has become detached from the foam backing and attempts to stick it back up resulted in a stained headlining.

I've not found the gear position a problem :?

Thanks everyone for giving this the Big Push, esp. Angry Dicky. Wasn't my baby, but I think we have done the shite movement proud.

Dicky: legend for bringing the car to the attention. Most people see the Maestro as "just an old car". W E know better.

Salute!

Still got the warranty paint claims documentation from my long-since departed Montego. It was dissolving quite readily at only 6 months old (in my Dad’s ownership then). Similar products faired equally as badly – my mate’s Sierra had rotten door tops at a similar age, but only the most pampered Maestro / Montego seemed to avoid it.

I found the saggy headlining thing to be quite amusing really. On damp mornings mine resembled the interior of a hearse (roof bar seals perished), so I’d drive to work with all the windows down and it would slowly dry out. By the time I’d arrived it had shrunk back up to its backing. Never did get round to fixing that.

Can’t say I had a problem with the gear lever angles either (VW box in mine). Enjoy yours!

Thats bloody lovely! Too far away to go fetch though... take it she's out of T&T?

Tax till the end of the month, but the MOT has expired sadly, although I reckon it will go through without too much fuss. All mine needed after being off the road for 11 years was a couple of small bits of welding on the rear strut mounts, a carb stripdown and cleaning the algae out of the washer jets to get them working.

Pretty sure as long as you book it in for an MOT you can drive it back if you insure it, as it's still taxed.

£100 a bloody good price for that.

is that your final answer?

Even though the tax IS up  as long as it's insured you can drive to a booked MOT, it's the one time you can legally go out without tax and test.

LOL!

I'm a year behind everyone else

+1. That is correct. Used to stop loads of old nails on the way to Larne MOT Centre when I was a copper.

You can only take it a reasonable distance though.... collecting an untaxed car from Aberdeen and booking into a test in Colchester would see the car being seized and your mug in numerous Dave reruns of Police! Camera! Action!

Reasonable is pretty much down to copper discretion. And as Fred says, it has to be a booked test, so you can't just constantly claim to be taking it for a test every time they stop you.

To be fair though, there doesn't seem a legal definition of 'reasonable distance', and I can't see how they can enforce one. If they say put a mileage on it, say 50 miles people in the outer Hebrides would never get another MOT if the last one expired. If you bought a car in Sheffield, and took it to a booked MOT in London near to where you lived, how could it be proved it's too far? You are also allowed to take an MOT test failed vehicle to where it will be repaired, and again I can't see any distance on that either.
