pogweasel Posted July 14, 2010 Posted July 14, 2010 They are well yummy, but don't eat too many unless you enjoy a stinging bumhole.
Vin Posted July 14, 2010 Posted July 14, 2010 Pipers are nice. Local to me too. Factory is in the next village.
Negative Creep Posted July 14, 2010 Posted July 14, 2010 Anyone remember Transform a Snack, Space Raiders or those American footballer ones (Hamburgers I think?) Only 10p a bag
ChinaTom Posted July 14, 2010 Posted July 14, 2010 Anyone remember Transform a Snack, Space Raiders or those American footballer ones (Hamburgers I think?) Only 10p a bagScampi flavoured nik-naks and Bats? Piglets!!! Smith's Gammon... Spanish Gold from minicipal swimming pool vending machines.
Formula Autos Posted July 14, 2010 Posted July 14, 2010 Surely the discerning Autoshiter's crisps of choice should be Salt 'n Shake? - a snack produced by a concern so stingy, they couldn't even be arsed to put the salt on for you. Much like BL, who couldn't be arsed putting a hatchback in some hatchback shaped cars.
Ratdat Posted July 14, 2010 Posted July 14, 2010 Scampi flavoured nik-naks and Bats? Piglets!!! Smith's Gammon... Spanish Gold from minicipal swimming pool vending machines.Piglets were great! Weren't they bacon and bean flavour? I used to love Crispy Meanies which came in a small green packet, cost 5p and were pickled onion flavour. I ate 12 packets in one go once... Another favourite which seems to have dissapeared was Burton's Fish and Chips.
pogweasel Posted July 14, 2010 Posted July 14, 2010 Space Raiders are still available up here.Part of your "5 a day" I think...
Mr H Sceptre Posted July 14, 2010 Posted July 14, 2010 They are well yummy, but don't eat too many unless you enjoy a stinging bumhole.Bumhole like the Japanese flag.
Formula Autos Posted July 14, 2010 Posted July 14, 2010 Part of your "5 a day" I think... Up here in Cumbria the five main food groups are: 1) Pies 2) Chips 3) Crisps 4) Beer 5) Shorts So Space Raiders would definitely qualify. Even better though would be the local delicacy - pie sandwich, in which a pie (usually meat and tatie) is served within a buttered bun. Red or brown sauce optional. The 'Royale' version has cheese melted onto the lid of the pie. No wonder West Cumberland Hospital's so big.
pogweasel Posted July 14, 2010 Posted July 14, 2010 I was going to suggest square sausage, neeps & tatties all washed down with Irn Bru as part of your healthy lifestyle...
AnthonyG Posted July 14, 2010 Posted July 14, 2010 I bought Golden Wonder crisps on a train (Virgin 'line') last week. I thought they had gone bust years ago.
Guest Posted July 14, 2010 Posted July 14, 2010 The best crisp-esque items are Walkers Snaps, not due to actually being any good (they're alright I suppose), but because the packet design carries a copyright date from sometime in the 70s. P.S. I once made a joke once about the Walkers Flavour Cup carrying a North Korean Famine flavour, but it was lost on most people.
Formula Autos Posted July 14, 2010 Posted July 14, 2010 I was going to suggest square sausage, neeps & tatties all washed down with Irn Bru as part of your healthy lifestyle... The square sausage is, I believe, actually called a Lorne sausage. An essential part of a Sunday morning fry-up.
pogweasel Posted July 14, 2010 Posted July 14, 2010 It IS unfeasably good. Problem is every time I come back from scotland I am heavier and closer to death... Found a lovely place in muirhead last time I was up doing square sausage in buns for 99p a pop, not small neither.
Simon M Posted July 14, 2010 Posted July 14, 2010 I bought Golden Wonder crisps on a train (Virgin 'line') last week. I thought they had gone bust years ago. They nearly did, but were saved by the mighty Tayto of Ireland a few years back - it's so annoying that the inferior and puny Walkers crisp has come to dominate the market, they were never as nice as Golden Wonder or Smith's.
Marshall Posted July 14, 2010 Posted July 14, 2010 For proper crisps I reckon these take some beating. Didnt know you could get Golden Wonder either. Tayto's are good too.
CreepingJesus Posted July 15, 2010 Posted July 15, 2010 Never seen those Piper's crisps up here, but I'll vote for the Seabrook's. Bloody marvellous. I do have a bit of a thing for Highlander crisps, they're made in Broxburn, by an Italian company, and the flavours are so strong, you'll be tasting them for days. Crisps the way they should be. Vicious. Besides, when I was at school, Walker's were the shite crisps no-one admitted to. Farmer Giles' or Space Raiders were the thing. Still miss Tudor tho'. Try a 'breakfast roll'; square sausage, bacon, black pudding, tattie scone and fried egg - it's how I remind myself I'm back in Scotland, after the square-free barren wastelands of England. Best enjoyed from the snack van north of Berwick on the A1, right at the border. With a bottle of Irn-Bru.
carlo Posted July 15, 2010 Posted July 15, 2010 I still dream about Smiths Bovril crisps and KP Rancheros. Can't tell you how much I miss 'em.
ayd Posted July 15, 2010 Posted July 15, 2010 salt n vinegar chipsticks Prawn KP Skips always in the cupboard at my house one's I miss are KP Good N Cruncy (i think) ate ferkin thousands of them so I could weigh the tokens in for a numberplate for my BMX which when it arrived, was most dissapointed due to it being made out of laminated cardboard
Skizzer Posted July 15, 2010 Posted July 15, 2010 +1 for the Seabrooks. Only ever seen them in a vending machine at an office I often used to work late in - became my staple diet for a few weeks. Anyone remember Transform a Snack, Space Raiders or those American footballer ones (Hamburgers I think?) Only 10p a bagWeren't the American football ones called All Stars?
chaseracer Posted July 15, 2010 Posted July 15, 2010 For proper crisps I reckon these take some beating. Y'see, this is the secret of how Dollywobbler can afford all his shite...
Formula Autos Posted July 17, 2010 Posted July 17, 2010 The ultimate in crisps has to be XL cheese. They used to be made by Benson's (who made many other flavours too, which were sold in a Seabrook-esque see-into bag) in the '80s. Benson's seem to be no more, but XL live on somehow, seemingly the sole product of a new company. Having looked for them dahn sarf and up in Scotland with no success I presume they are only distributed throughout northern England. The subtle packaging is a bright yellow packet with a huge dayglo orange 'XL' across the front. Anyone else out there ever had these?
