My current car 😂 £1600 on a Qashqai that runs and drives fine*. Previously the most I've ever spent is £600 and was from a shiter... Then every other car has been way lower than that still

I guess with the parts I bought yesterday I'm now at £1800 all in...

Longest distance - the Subaru Sambar imported directly from Japan. £2900 spent before I saw it.

Most expensive - £4500 on a Mitsubishi GTO Twin Turbo. The water pump seized on the way home, bending all 24 valves and knackering the valve guides. £3k to put that right…

7K in 2007 on a RS Cosworth 4x4 Sapphire with 57K on the clock from eBay. Genuine motor and better than expected.
That must be like dropping near on 30K in todays money!

£5100 for a Nissan Qashqai . But for extra jeopardy it was a Cat N  from Copart. It had been sold by Lookers at Carlisle 6 months earlier for £13995 . Second-hand NSR door  in the correct colour and a genuine Nissan rear quarter  let in and painted by a couple of mates who have a body shop and  it was good to go. Mrs PD  used it for a couple of months then decided that she preferred the VW UP that I had just finished ( Another Copart purchase) I've still got the Qashqai but it hardly ever gets used.

Done this nonsense a few times. £11k on a Toyota Alphard three years ago.

The one that sticks out was in 2009. Bought a subaru legacy 3.0 spec b for £7k. This from a Honda dealer somewhere down south.  5 years old and 40k miles.  OK, they don't do an equivalent now really, but a 5 year old Outback with roughly the same miles these days is £20k.   Nuts.

Mine is pretty lame, it was about £1000 on a Volvo S90 (run out 960) but it was such a luscious spec I had to have it. Blackcurrant with grey leather and wood steering wheel. 3.0 auto.

It was actually pretty good. I remember fixing the electric seats using donor parts, and a faulty coolant temp sensor fooling me into thinking it had OMGHGF but otherwise it was sound. Wish I still had it, it was very Autoshite.

4500 quid on a Dodge Challenger. Had never driven more than 20 miles in 1 go in the previous 10 years. Train down to Tewkesbury and drove it home to Fife, mate.

Got home no problem, and then I found I'd got 3500 quids worth of Dodge Challenger, and £1000 worth of body filler

Spent a lot on it, rebuilt the engine, new headers and exhaust, new edelbrock and holley, new tyres, bodywork and partial respray.

Sold it for £4200 😖

Now they are 20k+ for a basket case. 😆
