Camper Woes

Just a thought, but why not see if you can buy a small, cheap caraven, and mount it onto the chassis. Many years ago, I knew a bloke who had a long wheel base Transit, and he had a pick up body, and a converted caravan body, both of which he'd adapted so they could be interchanged. Used to use the pick up for work, and at holiday time, used to reomve the pick up body, and insatall camper body. He had some sort of winding leg mechanism for ease of swapping.

Good save, They are a funky looking thing!

It also lost a rear wheel at one point trashing the arch, fold down step and a couple of other bits underneath.

Oh yeah, I remember that. That was the day it left my house for its MOT. IIRC it bounced across the central reservation and hit a lorry? Lucky it did not hit a person or something.

But i am in no position to lecture people about making sure wheel nuts are done up properly. I am not sure what distracts me between lowering the car back down and tighening the nuts, but on at least 4 occasions over the years i have found that i have left the wheel hand tight.

I really really try and remember to do them up these da........oh look at that cat. Sorry, what was i saying?

As the camper shell only bolts on with about 10 bolts something like that would be possible, although where to keep the dismounted shell is the problem.

We had the discussion about repairing the camper body over the weekend, and we will strip it down in a sympathetic way to guage if it's repairable. To be honest a pick up makes far more sense to us, as its a useable truck, rather than a big lumbering thing that won't get used very often.

Have you got any details about where that white one is? It maybe worth a shot for some spares..

If it was a transit I would definitely chuck the body away and either replace it with another or make it into a pick up. But, Transit bodies are easier to find than Jap ones. That having said, it probably wouldn't be too hard to put another make of body on to it, it all depends what you want out of the chassis cab. Are you wanting to keep it a camper?

This transit body didn't sell

On it's on farm yard industrial estate down Lodge Lane in Langham, Colchester but there are several different units down there being used by mechanics and body shops so i have now idea who it belongs to but I'm guess it's waiting to be worked on.

Glad to see someone else is admitting to it. I am sure a few people om here are thinking the same thing but too scared to own up.

Well I once undid a wheel when a car wasnt jacked up, it was an accident. It was only a knackered old Punto though, which had blown its gearbox. Suprised no one heard it though....

I had a near miss and did three runs up the strip at Santa Pod with finger-tight wheelnuts. It was only the gentle clonking of wheel on hub on the exit road that alerted me....
