Renishaw car show 2010. Pic heavy.

Well, despite it being a thoroughly miserable day, having taken the day off work to attend, I decided to go anyway. When I arrived, this was the sum total of the cars in attendance!

Posted Image

But, later in the day, the rain did actually stop, and a really amazing variety of cars eventually turned up. And, the rain on well-waxed paintwork did allow for some slightly "artistic" shots.

The mirror on this MG intrigued me, being strapped and chained to the spare wheel!

Posted Image

Lovely Riley RM with great number plate

Posted Image

Posted Image

The wheels on this totally standard (except for an LPG convesion) Morris Thousand look absolutely right to me!

Posted Image

This looks surprisingly "right" too, though the bright red drums at the front look slightly odd.

Posted Image

Two of my favourite early '60s Brits.

Posted Image

I especially love these PA Crestas - - though actually, this is a Velox. Never really understood what the differences are!

Posted Image

and this is surely one of the nicest British rear ends!

Posted Image

The designer had a nice eye for detail - love the rear door handles.

Posted Image

A - post spots not in the original design, but a must-have accessory for the Rockabilly crowd!

Posted Image

That will do for the 1st installment, but much more to follow in a moment!

Posted

Ok, here we go with part 2:

Triumph GT 6 Mk 2, got it's MoT that very morning, apparently!

Posted Image

That's one hell of a motor for such a small car. Sounded lovely!

Posted Image

Possibly the world's most flawless Mini Cooper! Multi concourse winner, unsurprisingly!

Posted Image

This was pretty spotless too.

Posted Image

Nicely understated Mk 2 Cortina.

That will do for part 2... part 3 will follow soon!

Posted Image

Unusual to see a Maxi treated this way

Posted Image

Posted Image

Unmolested Mk 2 Escort Popular

Posted Image

Oh dear!

Posted Image

Nice, if slightly battered, Toyota.

Posted Image

Posted Image

Don't recall ever seeing one of these before. SD1 tail lights?

Posted Image

Innocent looking Mk 3 Cortina GT...

Posted Image

...was actually packing a nicely installed V8. NICE!

Posted Image

Posted

Here's part 3:

Big Frog... nice weather for frogs!

Posted Image

Big Yank!

Posted Image

It's a '57 Cadillac, so totally o.t.t, but in such a good way!

Posted Image

Any thoughts as to the inspiration of this frontage?!!

Posted Image

Poor light = slow shutter speeds, which makes some interesting panning shots

Posted Image

Utterly preposterous Chrysler

Posted Image

Posted Image

Stunning Chevy pick up

Posted Image

Surely equipped with hydraulics- it would be undriveable with it's front end that low!

Posted Image

Gloriously detailed engine bay

Posted Image

and interior

Posted Image

Unusual choice for a street rod, and I'm not a fan of this sort of treatment. Are those Triumph Spitfire tail lights?

Posted Image

Posted Image

It's a Standard 12.

Posted Image

For me, this was the undisputed star of the show:

Posted Image

At 1st glance, I thought it was a Ford Model B, but from a second glance, it obviously wasn't.

Posted Image

Everything about it is absolutely right- it's stance is just perfect!

Posted Image

Posted Image

Posted Image

Some lovely detail touches everywhere. These had me puzzled for a little while, but I guess they must be reverse lights

Posted Image

Nice detailing inside too - like the rev counter mounted next to the rear view mirror, and it still has the opening windscreen. Right hand drive too!

Posted Image

The V8 looks as if it was always meant to be in there.

Posted Image

Posted Image

So, has anyone recognised what it is yet?

Posted Image

Surprised me too!

Well, that's all folks, hope you like.

Posted

Loving that CX ambulance! Good photos too, that blue Studebaker rod is indeed gorgeous. These photos and the American car thread are putting me in a proper yank tank mood.

Posted

Great!, I like the arty photos with the rain drops, And nice to see a 1602/2002 in the first picture too.

Posted

Thanks - just for you...

Posted Image

You might like this too. Absolutely stunning M6 - impossibly perfect!

Posted Image

Posted

That 1602 is 8) , Must be a very early squire light model as you could still get round lights on a K, M6 is nice as well.

Posted

The small details such as reverse lights on that 'baker are really cool.

Thanks for sharing your snaps

Posted

Might have been a shite day but it didn't seem to matter - those are superb pics. Looks like a decent camera as well. Love the big blue Chrysler but would have preferred it with stock wheels.

Posted

Glad you're enjoying. Camera is a Canon Powershot SX10IS. ALMOST as good as a DSLR, but without having to carry around a bag full of lenses - it has a 20 x optical zoom, giving it a range equivalent to 28mm to 560mm. I absolutely LOVE it! It also has ultra close-up macro facility, for my other passion, butterfly photography.

Those 'things' on the caddy bumpers are called 'Dagmars'... named after a 50's actress!

The 'Standard 12' is an Austin, BTW...

Oh, great pics!

Posted

Mmmm, '57 Caddy, wibble, wibble.

The "GT6" is what's known to Triumph avocados as a Gitfire, the result of a drunken liaison between a female Spitfire and a male GT6, scary swing axle handling and plenty of torque to get it into big trouble! I'd have one tomorrow, but would make sure my will was in order before driving the thing.

Tail lamps on that Austin are generic Lucas L549 '50s/'60s ones, yes, seen on some Spitfires and GT6s, but also found on pre-'63 Morris Minors and Minor 1000s among other stuff.

....yet, strangely, I do get out plenty....

Posted

Posted Image

I see no similartitty at all...

Oh, great pics!

You are absolutely right, of course. Here's the badge which, inexplicably, I misread as Standard! My only excuse is that I was cold and wet, and my brain had turned to mush!!

Weeeeell.... it defo had a GT 6 badge on the back. I was listening to the owner answering questions, and he was insistant that it didn't have a swing axle (which surprised me!) and that it handles very well indeed.

Posted

Appreciate the pics and doesnt look a bad turnout considering the weather.

Posted

Great stuff, I like the mental CX ambo most. Is there a hotrod/ yank bias at this show, or was it just a co-inkydink that so many turned out?

Posted

No, the bias is in my taste!! The turn-out was amazing given the weather, I took hundreds of pics, but in choosing which to post on here, I unconciously allowed my love of big Yanks and rods to influence the selection process!

Posted

GT6 is a hatchback, that's a Spitfire shell, s'pose it could have semi-training rear end if it's on a MK2 GT6 chassis, so marginally less likely to attack its driver. Or "softer" if you like your thrills raw.

A Spitfire:

Posted Image

And what should appear when I search for a Gitfire? Yep, good ol' Dagmar again! :

Posted Image:?

Posted

I went to this was well. Turned up about 7pm so paid bugger all but was still full of cars. The black 2002 is iffy because square lights didn't arrive until 1974/M.

Did you go last year when it absolutely pissed down non stop?

Posted

We were going to take a couple of cars again this year, but after "rain stopped play" last year and the dubious forecast for Wednesday we gave it a miss, pretty sure my wife only goes for the "footlong" hot dogs..... :)

Posted

A GT6, seen earlier:

Posted Image

Thats Mr H.Imps GT6!

Posted

That's good, less chance of the hotlink being turned into one of those "Picture stolen from..." messages now!:lol:

'tis a sexy bit of kit by the looks of it. :)

Posted

Ha ha, yeah, those foot-long hot dogs are pretty amazing! Personally, it's the cheeseburgers I go for. I didn't go last year, as the rain truly was biblical, and was being much talked about this year by those who had braved it. The year before that it had been absolutely glorious - don't you just love the English summer? As for the Gitfire, it defo had GT6 mk2 badges on the back.

Thats Mr H.Imps GT6!

Fuggin ell, it is too!. Totally different colour, additional mirror on the window, same wheel sames number plate, same car!

Well spotted Volksy!

Here it is in its current state (actually, in its current state it is having its outer sills replaced and looks a bit of a mess, but its quite like this)

Posted
