They always reminded me of a millennial Ford Consul mk2.  If you squint a bit*...

Those and the Anglia lamps were definitely* copied by Vauxhall for the Agila

Something else from America was the stacked headlamps from the mid 1960s.

Here's a '67 Cadillac.

Tail lights are pretty groovy too.

That's them! Who were the manufacturers.  They're horrible.

Cadillac used that style of upright light at the back of the fin for a very long time

Even those sort of morphed from the early 60s type

Going by the quality* of the ones I saw in the late '90s cruise scene, anyone with access to a Vac-Form and a not-completely-blunt craft knife seemed to be knocking them out...

Some late model stuff like Porsche 911 now use a strip the full width of the car

That's a kind of nod back the 911s of the past that had the red reflector between the rear lights as used from the impact bumper cars to the last air-cooled cars.

Is this why BMC got into trouble, making some many different tail lights for the Farina cars?

All requiring different rear-wing pressings too...

BMW Z8 tail lamps were innovative at the time it was launched; still an attractive car now!

Speaking of centrally-mounted 'third headlamps'...

1980-subaru-gl-brochure.jpg.61757286bdf4892da3bc69ab8dd2f46a.jpg

1980-1982 Subaru wagons and pickups came with a third headlight, mounted behind the grille badge which flipped up out of the way.

Pretty cool, I reckon.

The Alfa Romeo Giulietta (circa-2010) had quite funky rear lights, with its distinct curved ‘chase’ of LEDs, almost resembling a glowing disembodied moustache.

It certainly stood out at a time before the use of LEDs was quite so ubiquitous.

MINI certainly like to include a lot of British imagery on their cars, in an attempt to link back to the original

There's one that looks like a pair of stiletto shoes, but I haven't worked out what it is yet

Surely I can't be the only person to have followed one of these new Seat/Cupra SUVs on a dark road and though "ooh, a Charger!" until I got closer?
Alternatively, you may well say I need to visit Specsavers......

I always thought Seat Leons had LED rear lights but it turns out they are faked

Yep, I’d noticed this as well, sort of looked like LEDs, but something was ‘off’, the light didn’t have the ‘crispness’ you get with LEDs, eventually worked out it was a halogen bulb behind a perforated reflector/cover, I think Mazda used to use this trick on some models aswell, like the circa-2009 Mazda3

Always thought these were ultra-tacky, like the MINI ‘Blackpool Edition’ or something, not to mention the inherent ridiculousness of such overblown ‘patriotic’ touches on a (basically) German product.

I always find the union flag ironic on a countryman.  Assembled in Austria

There's a set of rear lights that do that infinity effect you used to get in old disco lights - I can't recall or find by Google - I thought it was DS3 or RR Evoque - the tail lights have a see through mirror coating (internally) so they look as though they extend into an infinite "hole"

Peugeot did a really crappy version on the 307 cc as well

The 207 had similar, but with the half-arsed-ness taken to the next level, definitely living up to the thread title now…
