I got this on both this thread and the forum technical help thread. The second time I went in it was gone on both.

I'm out at the moment but I'll take a look when I'm back. Looks like the search server crashed and restarted itself. Not sure why but I think from the error is that it needs more RAM allocating to it.

@richardmorris looks like the first image you was uploading was a nearly 5MB PNG. It should be possible (although not ideal for using that much storage as PNG aren't compressed!) but I think it might be the max size allowed is set a bit too low. I'll increase it anyway as JPEGs do get compressed and can easily be that big.

How many MB is the image you're trying to upload?

I'm not seeing any  topics on my feed from anything but the main forum.

I can get into the others by selecting them but they're not appearing on my normal view.

This happening to anyone else?

Search had literally just finished indexing itself. Please could you retry and see if that sorts it?

Thanks for the info. It was just a screenshot I took on the iPad. No reason it needed to  be so large really.

Hmm that should be fine. I'm not entirely sure why it's not working - the forum logs aren't showing any explanation why.

This is a 10MB image originally (compressed to 200KB) and seems to have uploaded okay. But a JPEG not a PNG.

Yeah, seems to be working now. Thanks.

There was an urgent last minute patch (according to Invision anyway) that went last night too. While it could be it, I don't think it would be. Would be handy to have a copy of the file so I can prod it in and watch the logs happen (hard to scroll through on a live site as a data is incoming).

Ta for that test file. Its easy when you see the error as it happens and you can google it:

2024/03/16 21:10:21 [error] xxxxxx#xxxxxx: *xxxxxxxx client intended to send too large body: 1369334 bytes, client: x.x.x.x, server: , request: "POST /topic/57757-%E2%9D%97%E2%9D%97%F0%9F%9A%A8-major-autoshite-server-maintenance-and-downtime-completed-%F0%9F%9A%A8%E2%9D%97%E2%9D%97/page/3/ HTTP/2.0", host: "autoshite.com", referrer: "https://autoshite.com/topic/57757-%E2%9D%97%E2%9D%97%F0%9F%9A%A8-major-autoshite-server-maintenance-and-downtime-completed-%F0%9F%9A%A8%E2%9D%97%E2%9D%97/page/3/"

Its this: https://nginx.org/en/docs/http/ngx_http_core_module.html#client_max_body_size

Default was set to 1MB.

Not sure why files above that sometimes work. Possibly because sometimes bigger uploads (or JPEG) are split into multiple requests?

Anyway I've bumped it up to 128MB and what was set in the old server. I must have forgot to check that file settings when migrating over.

TL;DR Should be working. Please check.

This is the search server being a PIA again. It looks like its run out of RAM and bombs out. I've doubled the RAM allocated to it (new server has far more RAM) and we'll have to keep an eye on it to see if it still behaves.

I don't know if I'm imagining this, but most of the pictures on the forum are now much larger than before. I really like it.

I'm on  chrome on a chromebook laptop.

You're not imagining it! I increased the size of the image shown inline with posts.

The crazy thing is that it increases the quality of inline images while decreasing storage space on the server!

Basically if the inline image is smaller than the stored image (like it was) then two images are stored. One low resolution thumbnail image and one higher resolution that you get when you click on the image.

Where as now it's set to the inline image and click on image to the same size. Hence it doesn't bother with making that thumbnail image. The high res is exactly the same setting as it was before I changed it. 1280x1280 max from memory.

(Hopefully that makes sense - just back from the gym & swim and my brain & body is mush)

Yes, it makes sense and is understandable even to me. And the increase in image size has made the forum much better so thanks for that and all the good work you do here it is appreciated.

Just given it another restart as it was reporting it was out of disk space (which is a lie). It stops indexing if it thinks it's run out of room, so I needed to give it a kick asap otherwise the search will have missing results. So a few people might have seen the "An error has occurred" at around 8:14am to 8:15am (it take a minute to come back up).

I might have to upgrade the version at some point soon as that search server on as there seems to be quite a few bugs in the current version it's on.

I think we're stable now?

At least I haven't heard anything recently that is proving problematic. I'll be decommissioning and deleting the old server in the next day or so, which will mean no going back.

Any further questions are going to be best put in the main technical help thread here:
