Then I changed vehicle, so now I’m powered by Scania instead. That’s not my bus on the picture, I plan to go further than Oskarshamn.

Are you going to Gamleby?!

Yep, I couldn’t let someone else buy it, could I?  The seller told me he had already around 40 replies so I went straight from the ferry terminal to Gamleby. Our neighbour picked up Sanna and at the same time delivered an Aygo. They then drove the T4 home while I continued north with the Aygo. I got 4 hours of sleep that night. Today I will drive the car home. No trailer this time.

That’s the spirit! I’ll not steal your thunder, but I’m looking forward to the obligatory derv shot.

Bus change in Västervik . The bus driver phoned ahead and made the other bus wait for me. That was really nice of him! So everything is going well. A few more minutes and then it’s time to burn some Diesel. No turbo involved…

No transplant. No Nissan.

Hmm, reckon  it’s a 5 cylinder VAG engine - diesel. Longitudinally mounted. Can’t quite see enough but possibly no turbo.

Unicorn, so rare. Worth 4 hours sleep.

I’m going  for an Audi, specifically the 100.

Got to be a VAG thing, Shirley?

I am now with those who think Audi 100.

I considered buying one a while back. It was a late 70s diesel in yellow with a green interior.

It looks a lot like this! 2.4 diesel in an Audi 100. If it is I wish I was doing the collection!!

Yes! It’s an Audi 100 from 1983 with a 69hp non-turbo  2 litre 5 cylinder Diesel. It’s rare as hell, at least here in Sweden.  I’ve seen an estimate of 5-7 cars.

Not too fond of the Fondmetal wheels and I will change back to yellow indicators. Almost completely rust free.

I love it.

I had a brief spell were I felt all clever that I’d guessed it from the engine shot, until my wife called me a ‘sad twat’…… tough living where your genius* is unrecognised!!

To me the wheels look spot on, they look like a period accessory I think, not too modern.  But then I grew up in Watford and am a bit chav so I could easily be wrong!

How come the C3 100s are so much more common/beloved compared to the C4? Is it the Quattro's reputation that sent sales through the roof? Or the fact that the C4 was "only" a refinement of the C3s revolutionary design?  You can't go wrong with either of them, both were still built to last.

Also approving of the gingercators.

Maybe because when the C3 went on sale it was revolutionary. By the time C4 went on sale the rest of the manufacturers had caught up. Maybe.

I've driven a 2litre Turbo version which was very pleasant. They had one quirk in that one had to be very careful to do up the crank pulley nut to full tightness otherwise the pulley key could fret in its slot in the crankshaft, rendering the crankshaft scrap. The torque setting was gigantic, something like 375lb/ft.

Same goes for the AAZ 1,9 TD VW engine and probably a few other engines of that era.
