ARSE BISCUITS!!! If I'd have know about this I wouldn't have volunteered to take the family to Chester Zoo this saturday... :( even so, where, what time, and is it ALL weekend or just saturday or sunday..?

Posted

Car/transport show is Sunday...carnival and stuff today. It was pretty good last year.Did you get my PM the other day Mr B?

Posted

Great pics retrogeezer 8) MK 1 Capri was my favourite.I really enjoyed the show, there are more and more vehicles coming every year and it's nice to see them moving in the procession rather than parked up. My only gripe was there were too many Subaru's this year with great big Spoilers and Rally Colours sporting their surname in the rear window  Each to their own though I suppose.

Posted

Great snaps rg :D A60 estate looks really nice. The Rostyles on that Capri look unusual or is it just me. Curved slots look odd. :?

Posted

Mk1 Capri was my fave too (closely followed by that ultra clean Acclaim) I had a quick chat with the owner and was pleased to hear it is still running the 1300 engine. It was a great afternoon, got there at 1pm just in time for the parade. Then had a picnic lunch in the park after which the better half and my 6 yr old went to the kids play area leaving me to wander about snapping away in the parking area. :D

Looks good! Saw the Granada police car on the M6 going south on Sunday afternoon, presumed this must be where it came from.

Posted

Excellent pics. Renner 12 and green HC Viva for me please. That blue Dolomite is tidy too.

Posted

Nice. Was that TR8 genuine?Shame someone has rather crudely chopped the back about to squeeze SD1 lights onto it!

Nice collection of pics there, thanks Retrogeezer. That is the pick of the bunch for me. Sammy Satterthwaites garage was just a couple of miles along the road from me, but the site is now just a block of flats :( I can remember that Foden parked up in their yard and it's great to see that not only has it survived, but it is still in its 'working clothes' even down to the leather strap to keep the starting handle in place 8)

Posted

Acclaim and green Viva HC are amazing. Great look to the Foden breakdown lorry.

Posted

Great pics, thanks for sharing. I like the Cambridge estate on Rostyles, thats not a straight bolt-on job is it? I know they fit Westminsters but I assumed they had different PCDs. Maybe it's just because i've never seen one before...?

The estate is wearing four stud Rostyles from an MGB. Same as A60 stud pattern.
Posted

Ah that makes sense, I thought you would be the man who knew. I assume Westminsters would fit Rover P5 Rosties?

Posted

Yup. Least I thinks thats the ones. 5 on 5" pattern I believe. But there are a few four cylinder cars on big car axles/hubs/brakes and hence 5 stud wheels.

Posted

HEY, I went to this thing as well!

It was a pretty crowded affair, with maybe 70 or so exhibits parked on the small marketplace car park. folks were clattering past with their pushchairs etc, OMG MIND MY PAINT!!!!

Posted Image

I think this wil give you an idea of the scale of the event.

Posted Image

Best exhibit for me was this Triumph Acclaim, what a minter!!! You could literally eat your dinner off it.

Posted Image

The interior was literally like new.

Posted Image

My head literally fell right off when I saw how clean the engine was!

Posted Image

This supa shite truck was called a Whitby Warrior or something, it had Vauxhall Viva mechanicals, and despite being made from 1" tube and folded sheet, looked to be a mega neat effort with super smooth panelwork. Want!

Posted Image

This poverty-spec Dolomite 1300 was class. Theyre hardly poverty spec really are they with a big plank of wood for a dashboard and so on. A quality machine.

Posted Image

This tipper truck had been converted into a home by the looks of it!!! Just think of the fun you could have getting your lass out of bed in the morning, by tipping the whole house up till she slid out the bottom of the bed into a carefully-positioned set of shoes and trousers, wallace and gromit style.

Posted Image

As i was photographing this police car I had my camera confiscated and was charged with assorted terrorism offences. My DNA was taken then I was held for 42 days without charge. Then I was given my camera back and told to clear off.

Posted Image

This looks a class thing for hooning round in! No need to hoover it out either, just drive faster till all the crisp packets etc are blown away. ACE

Posted Image

O'roight Ozzyy!!!!! Whens ya new album out!!!! Ha ha

Posted Image

Dont know what this is (Agri-jimp? never heard of it), but I liked it!

Posted Image

When I saw this I thought WTF???? But I realised that sammy and spike are probably this guy's kids, as there were two young 'uns clambering about inside it. I must say, it might look shit to me, but if I was 6 and my dad painted up the family car to look like a racing car with my name all over it, i'd be expectin' sum serious respek' off my playgroup krue.

Posted Image

This queen-alike woman was sat in a DS420 limo, and had a face like a fight at a pikey wedding all day. Cheer up love!

Posted Image

The geezer in here was predictably podgy-faced and shaven headed, and looked pretty fed up with his lot TBH! Not surprised as he looked a bit out of place in his seemingly standard 53-plate 'Scooby'

Posted Image

Yeah cheers mate! This car was a winnar. I love they styling of them. Sadly too much tax on em for me nowadays as I am a tightwad, not really into anything that costs over £300!

Posted Image

Scammell Scarab!!! What way to get about, I would love one of these for commuting etc.

Posted Image

This brown t-shirt fella walked past me earlier barking into a mobile phone. "YEAH, IT WERE A SCOOBY, RECKONS E'S ONLY 'AD 150 AAAAAHT'VE IT THOUGH" His mate had a perfectly square hole right through him with a model Viva parked in it, most unusual.

Posted Image

This guy was too cool and basically put everyone else there, to total shame.

Posted Image

This slightly wavy Farina was ace and had a selection of genuinely retro stickers! YES

Posted Image

Posted

Yep, that Acclaim really was the dogs cahoonas wasn't it....not a spec of dirt anywhere.

I even took a photo of the original Triumph radio cassette:

Posted Image

I also got the horn when I saw this Saisho R/C in the blue TR7 and this rather tasty Audioline one in a Viva:

Posted Image

Posted Image

On the way back to the car this mitsubishi(?) went past with some weird rear attachment on it:

Posted Image

then this ovlov:

and then this Mk2 fezza:

Top report Bo11!

You could be right. In which case it looks like Sammy was an unplanned addition.

GR888 commentary there, Reg_Bo1, I LIDERALLY LAUGHED MY COCK OFF at the tipper-caravan bit.

Posted

Hey, that DI Burnside from the Bill has put some weight on too hasn't he...

Posted Image

Posted

Looks like it was a great show, cheers for all the pics guys. Bol, your commentary was bloody marvellous, looks like a top bunch of characters were present. Im looking forward to the upcoming Basingstoke show even more now in 19 days time.

Posted

Excellent report! Don't know why, but I love the 'coin' box in the Acclaim, will it really only hold one coin?

Posted

I love the Acclaim. When I was in sixth form back in about 1996 someone in my year had one. Fairly tough little car IIRC as he didn't exactly drive it gently.

Posted

When I was at college one of the lecturers had an Acclaim that he was obsessive about. He used to wash it at lunchtime every other day and he would dry it with a chamois after a shower of rain. The car was still in showroom condition after four years. It was a great shame when somebody ran into it in the car park.

Posted

Nice pics, I do unfortunately have to correct you on one minor detail though, the scammell scarab is not a scammell scarab, tis a scammell townsman basically its broadly identical sucessor with a fibreglass cab!m0rris

I love going to car shows, but nowadays I find the characters at shows, as entertaining as the cars themselves. I wouldnt go to a needlework show like, but if you like cars 'car people' are a natural source of amusement and interest i would say. Most car shows have a slight air of naffness about them which I like, all that bunting, people sitting at picnic tables next to their car, bored wives, stalls selling heavily overpriced crummy chinese tools, snake oil sellers, pub bores, barries, theyre all there. Also if during the course of a day at a show I find a couple of people with interesting (i.e. shitey) motors who are up for a chat I am happy. This show didnt have the tat stalls but all the other boxes were ticked. Great stuff!

Marvellous report. More please throughout the year.

You have also solved a mystery, I think. The Whitby Warrior looks pretty much like a mystery vehicle I saw a few years ago:

Posted Image

While the front is slightly different, 'mine' does look similar to the one on Whitby Morrison's website: http://www.whitbymorrison.com/Company/Timeline.php

Quite an interesting site if you want to know about ice cream vans, which is their main business. Some good pic's, and it's reassuring to know they carry out confidential research. I think there might even be a photo of the CF ice cream van parked behind 'your' Whitby Warrior on their site.
