I might go for a drive in it later, just for the hell of it. Up the coast. Mmmmm, wafty.

Well. That's an interesting set of warning lights it's just pinged up all at once. Stability control, ABS and parking brake! You do spoil me, C6.

And then the information screen went off.

... Yeah, I'll be ringing the specialist tomorrow right enough.

That collection of lights almost always indicates a failed ABS sensor. Does the handbrake still work? If not, I think this means it's a front sensor, which is a quick and easy job. If it does still work, it's a rear one, which is bad news as the replacement is 'involved' - as it ’involves’ dropping the fuel tank. Obviously my memory may be faulty; Diagbox will tell you which one it is.

As to those who see a C6 as a terrifying ownership proposition, I've done almost 300,000 miles in mine and it hasn't scared me yet. Yes, sometimes a raised eyebrow or a gallic shrug is called for, but not more than that. Mine is a 2.2, which has a better reputation than the 2.7.

The handbrake does still work. Uhoh. I hope you've got it the wrong way round...

Fingers crossed, but I have a failed rear one at the moment and my handbrake still works too...

Forgot to say, worth folding the back seat, lifting the access cap over the fuel tank and unclipping and cleaning the contacts before reassembling. You could get lucky.

Of course, if your car has the lounge pack rear seats, it may be difficult to get to the fuel tank anyway.

Just checked the part numbers for the batteries here https://catalogs.ssg.asia/citroen/?lang=en# as I was worried I was giving you duff info with your engine being the smaller one.  But no, the 2.2 and the 3.0 both take the humongous Citroen part number 5600TK.

I just replaced mine and can tell you that:

  • Exide 017 / 019 (100Ah) is £132, (Euro Car Pats number 444770176)
  • Varta 019 is £192 and (Euro Car Pats number 444770194)
  • Citroen was over £250 (Citroen number 5600TK)
  • Yuasa do an equivalent battery and this is what I removed from my car.

I think this is the same battery at Halfords if you have a trade card

Right, it was only £42 so I've booked it in for an aircon regas m8 on Saturday. Let's see if that gets the air any colder (although it'll still blow warmer out of the driver's side, if it's cold elsewhere I'll likely just take that as a win and live with it).

It's going to the auto electrician for a look at the radio on Friday as well. C6 forum suggests it's likely the head unit. A replacement would be a hundred off eBay but let's see if the issue can be fixed first.

Apparently the ABS sensor is likely a rear one and that's bad because it's way harder to change than if it were a front one. Requires the fuel tank to be dropped. Bah. The better news is the depollution warning could be solved by a simple fuel filter change.

Dare I ask why the fuel tank needs to be removed to replace the ABS sensor? Is the module it plugs into up there or something?

The wiring probably runs through the middle of the fuel tank.

You can do it from inside the car if you have a folding rear seat. Which I do not.

Those electric reclining lounge seats do come out— I had them out for the fuel pump change. It’s really not that difficult job if you have the instructions. You would just need to take out the driver’s side. The connector is behind the round fuel tank access panel.

My garage say the same and I imagine if you have a proper lift and have done it a few times it might be easier to drop the fuel tank.  For mere mortals like us,  a few hours of simple mechanising gets the seat out .

The head unit is coded to the car so you will need a Lexia or Diagbox to reprogram the replacement unless you are buying from one of those companies that send them pre-coded to your car.

Are you aware of the BSI reset procedure? Basically what you need to do after the battery has been disconnected. I doubt this will fix your screen but it’s always worth a try if things have not woken up properly and you do say it has been say around so the battery may have gone flat.

Also, which head unit do you have?  I think the later one has a hard drive so more prone to failure but that disc might just be for the jukebox music storage. Never had one of those systems.

I'm just gonna pay the garage to do it while they're changing the fuel filter. There's a bit of a suspension creak so they can have a look at that as well.

It's not the hard drive head unit, it's the single CD (with auto changer in the boot).

Have just looked up the BSI reset process, I'll give that a go just to see if it does sort the screen - Cheers!

The C6 has been out shopping this evening. It's the perfect car for the weekly shop. Nice low boot lip and it's just big enough for all the bags.

Whereabouts in the boot does the CD changer live? I'm fairly sure that mine hasn't got one, but it could be hiding somewhere. Annoyingly it doesn't seem to have the USB / 3.5mm socket in the glovebox either so I'm limited to 1 CD at a time.

On the right in a flap iirc.

Embarrassing question time... How do I get the trip computer to stop displaying miles travelled and show me miles to empty? Google and the car's user manual both give me no information on how to perform this most simple of tasks, and faffing about with the interior hasn't done it either.

Why does anyone ever get batteries outside of ebay?

I gone one from these guys once and it went kaput, they replaced it within 48hrs no quibble. And they are massively cheaper than all the factors.

That was also my question.

I'm rapidly going off them.

The miles to empty is shown on the satnav screen by pressing the button on the end of the wiper stalk

Mine has an sd card somewhere full of mp3s. I’ve not found a multi changer

CD changer is in the boot, right hand side near the rear of the car. I think only early cars with RT3 systems have the CD changer. Later cars have RT4 units with hard drive. RT3 units have the sat nav info on a DVD (that goes in the slot in the head unit).

I suspect that if the rear ABS sensors have been changed before, the cables may be left 'loose' rather than attached to the top of the tank, and they may be easier to change.

The button on the end of the wiper stalk cycles through four screens - trip1, trip 2, instantaneous fuel consumption and range, temp gauges and TPMS. Hold the button down to reset the trip screen you are on. Get the screen to keep showing them by pressing the Trip button.

Get to love the dark mode

Well if it makes you feel any better this is my only way to see my fuel level when my dash display decides not to turn on.

No need to worry, the HUD will tell you when the fuel level gets low...
