had an interesting call offering me a ssangyong musso for much cheepness needs a starter but apart from that drives A ok so im told,i nearly bought it blind over the phone from the description as per the norm but hesitated as i would rather get a shifty at it first.it is the diesel 5 cylinder i think they are merc engined, and it has the two Ts so is driveable. so apart from being pig ugly what are they like anyone had one and are they easy to sell on again

Er...........My dad's mate Matthew had one for towing his boat. The interior disintegrated but the mechanicals stayed on course for nearly 300K. He seems to like it.Then again, he calls the '*' asterisk on an 8 key 'cabbage' so he could be a bit tapped, I dunno.

Oh and I believe that 5-pot diesel is related to the engine in the Merc w123...

yup thats what i thought but wasnt sure  so from the replys they go for ever but fall to bits are pig ugly and cant be sold so best to give away free with a box off hankies  i may not even waste my flowgo to go and look at it but then again 100 squid is pretty tempting, Hmmm cash the 4 months tax in then weigh it in, quick profit for not much hastle

If you're looking at £100 and have some stuff to lug around, why not? I am assured they're GR8 4 TOWING in the true Autoshite manner. Matt has a fleet of Fletcher Family Fours, truly the beige Acclaim of the leisure craft world.

I hear the muncg gearboxes and they can be very difficult to get parts for. If its cheap then go for it!

i already have my nav for hauling tat although i may be selling it.100 sqid is very cheep but factor in the starter motor and she looks more unatractive than a smokin turd

Sure the starter can't be fixed with new brushes or anything? could be a cheap fix!

Is the starter not a MB job that's available from GSF?You'll probably get the starter off a Honda Acty or some such bollocks, 'because that's what the computer says', but who's for some false hope? After me: 'Do not take £100, do not pass go......'

oh heck now i dinny ken wit tae dae  i think i will still go and check her uglyness out you never know i might leave my sensibleness at home that day

There's plenty of them being broken on ebay, cheap as chips, I have the 3.2 and it's nice enough!

you have to push the clutch pedal to the floor before the starter motor will engage on these.I think there is some sort of micro-switch on the clutch pedal.

I like them, they aren't that ugly.

Of course, the dream version for me is the clumsy looking pick-up. I've only seen 2 of these in the UK - "be the envy of your friends in a car that's rarer than a Ferrari"

Posted

ummmmm now normally i'm not a fan but do like that pick up 8)

As others have said, only if it's cheap. And bear in mind you will have to keep it 'til it dies as resale hopeless.

resale hopeless.

What does resale value matter when you're buying sub-£1000 shitters?

Posted

Their profile doesnt look too bad, but it's that swage line or whatever down the side that messes it up.There's a Korando i see quite often with a Merc 'star' on the grill, I either shake my head or laugh whenever it goes past

Posted

Resale is probably quite easy to be fair, the prices are so low. Can't imagine a working one with an MOT would have much trouble finding a home.

I was more thinking about the ability to resell rather than what its worth tbh. If you find someone who wants one, its got some MOT then you're away but there just can't be that many people about who'd want one.

i remember a few years back there was about 20 - 30 of those ssyangyang things in southampton auctions  all looked brand new.. some plated (which looked like hong kong plates) and some without plates.. all had stickers on the windows with chinese writing on them..dont know what the deal was there maybe they gave up trying to sell them or someone had a great fiddle going with the docks :D

Lots of people want cheap 4x4s, especially in the sticks.
